NO DISRESPECT to the wonderful late Jason Raize, but he was too light to play Simba. The Lion King was based in Africa, and Africans have beautiful dark skin.
@JayWIamBoss There was nothing "light" about the SOUL that Jason Raize brought to this role; it's never been matched by any other performer, regardless of their race or skin color. WIthout him, there would be no standard by which to measure how Simba should be performed.
I saw the second movie before I got to see the play,
I remember being in school as the song began playing, getting chills and goosebumps all over, I began tearing up, turned around and everyone in my classroom had tears in their eyes.
I LOVE HER VOICE, I saw her in broadway, HER VOICE BLEW ME AWAY, I love that even though its trained, its not too trained, it sounds authentic. ANd that makes what she sings more real. I was in tears when I saw this in broadway
I saw this in London and it was so good that I went back the following month to see it again for it's 10th anniversary playing there. Simply amazing. I am going to see it again next year in the US.
Saw this last night, it was ASTOUNDING. Loved this scene, it was certainly a tear-jerker. Though I wish that this performance had the huge head pieces of Mufasa that all come together and began speaking (just because it was so cool :)).
@tjonesmusicman Nope, it's always been in a woman in the stage production. Julie Taymor, the director for the original Broadway show, made Rafiki a female because she felt there weren't any strong lead female roles in the film, so she wanted to add one in for the Broadway show.
Dayum I wish I could sing like that! Seems like I literally live and breathe the lion king these days, I was making some video with clips of it (a weird one) but I literally cannot get enough of it, broadway, movie, beautiful character design THE MUSIC!!! the gorgeous colours from the film and I NEVER tire of it :) it's truly amazing
this is very good, but the rafiki in london is miles better, having listened to both of them, the rafiki in London sings it with more passion, energy and it is better in every way. If you don't belive me watch the one live on gmtv
I just saw this last night in New York on Broadway and it was AMAZING.... This song ad a few others made me almost cry the songs touch your heart in away.
Ingonyama nengw' enamabala Night and the spirit of life calling mamela And a voice just the fear of a child answers mamela Ubu khosi bo khokho [This is the throne of our ancestors] We ndodana ye sizwe sonke [Oh, son of the nation)] Ingonyama nengw' enamabala Night and the spirit of life calling mamela And a voice just the fear of a child answers mamela Ubu khosi bo khokho We ndodana ye sizwe sonke Wait, there's no mountain too great Hear these words and have faith Have faith
I prefer the cartoon. I just can't imagine Simba prancing. But it is hard to recreate such a moment from a beautiful play on a daytime talk show. They did a great job.
I've seen this musical as well and it is simply amazing. The soundtrack recording does not even compare to the awesomeness of seeing it in real life and I love the stage versions of the songs and how they literally come to life. Also, the costume and interactive set designs are AMAZING and are deserving of all the praise and awards.
Go see it if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed!
I just saw The Lion King in New York on 9/9. I had incredible second row seats and this song was my favorite part of the show. The way the Mufasa reflection was portrayed was incredible and Tshidi Manye is flawless.
You know, the lady that plays Rafiki is actually really pretty. The makeup makes that difficult to see, but she's lovely! And such a raw, strong voice!
I agree, very incredible! Im 16 and I just saw about 2 weeks ago, and this is just a story that everyone can relate to and enjoy, no matter what the age:)
P.S- Dashaun Young is such a great actor for this part.
@Outcastjts123 it's so true. I saw it YEARS ago when it toured, I saw it in Toronto, and I was just taken back, even at such a young age, by the enormity and perfection of this show. I want to see it again so bad
Wow Dashaun is also nice --- this was after Jason Raize passed away - Dashaun is soo great too wowwwwwwwwww.....Tshidi has a very wonderful and strong Voice - it makes my heart beat fast and makes me just feel so overwhelmed .... this song draws my emotions out and I cry whaaa ^_^
I saw them at The Grove yesterday. Well, only Tshidi Manye (Rafiki), Dashaun Young (Simba), and Chauntee Schuler (Nala). They weren't in costume. They sang Circle of Life, Shadowland, Endless Night, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight? I wanted my nieces to see them
I've seen the Broadway show back in 2002 and bought the soundtrack so for years, I got used to the original cast. But they all sang very beautifully. I wish I could afford to see the actual show in Las Vegas so I could show my nieces.
I saw this on Broadway a week or so ago, and it's the best thing I've seriously ever seen, the whole time I had chills, and Tshidi Manye is just purely amazing, and so talented, along with Dashaun Young and the rest of the cast. It's truely an amazing experience!
This video (or any recording, really) does no justice to hearing it live. Seriously. I saw it in the Minskoff theater last week, and was simply blown away Manye's voice. Hearing it live was one of the most amazing experiences ever. I'd see it every day if it weren't 95 dollars a ticket. -_-
It was amazing to see this on Broadway. I got to meet Dashaun Young and the rest of the cast after the show with my school for a Q and A. He was really cool. It was an unforgettable experience.
@TheRedOnE9812 I went and saw it in UK, Jesus Christ it's expensive! I actually prefer the plays at my local civic theatre; more personable actors, a 20th the price for a ticket, free food, and without the ULTRA LOUD BLACK LADY SCREAMING.
I went to see this in June and personally I thought this guy was great he ahd sucha a powerful voice sure he may not sound the same as jason Raize but ti wouldnt be as good if he tried to copy the way jason played simba
WOW!!!!! Im always blown away by how beautiful Tshidi´s voice is.. Stunning!! Bravo. But def. Jason Raize as Simba is irreplaceable... R.I.P Jason. God Bless you . I got to meet him in person. Such a beautiful and amazing talent.
