Hell yeah!! I have never forgot this tune since i heard it always playing on a Duluth station back in 75. I was 14. hahaha Damn to be young again : ))
I completly forgot all about this song. I caught again today on the radio. What a great song this was when it first came out. I remember thinking when it first came out. "COOL" a song about a state other then California!
Reminisces? OK, I was a big shot, around the world, stuffy, fluffy, yada yada, other poopy. Remembered where I was from, now home, grounded, thank you Minnesota, Arctic Cat, snow storms, Clancy & Carmen, Casey & Roundhouse, Mel Jass. Oh how much I have missed here at home. Garageband66, thanks for posting this song!
Oh man, I finally found this song!! THANK YOU for posting this!! I listened to this song ALL the time back in the day, and besides the fact that I've been a Minnesotan all my life, I just really like this song!! FastEddie, I completely agree with you: this should have been a big hit - it's a great song! I share your reminisces as well.
Minnesota. A secret well protected. This is the best state in the US. Nature, culture, sports, food. We love our state! Everyone's welcome to visit Frostbite Falls and meet Bullwinkle, Rocky, Boris and Natasha. Or Garrison Keillor...or
GB66, I hear ya, But 48 years of the '65 tornado, Clancy, Casey, Riverview, The Broadway Bridge, Red Owl, Camden Theater,,, Returning back home, gives me some right....
Every Friday At 5 P.M. KROC FM 106.9 In Rochester,Mn. would kick off the weekend with this song. After a long week of school, it was time to enjoy the beautiful state of Minnesota when you heard this song! Thank you for posting this Great Song!
I've never understood why this gem wasn't a huge hit. A station in Rochester, Minn. used to play this song every Friday at 5 PM in the '70s and '80s as a kickoff to another Minnesota weekend. Brings back great memories of the carefree days of my youth. If I could go back in time to 1975, I'd do it in a second. Thanks for posting!
I have been looking for this song to burn to a cd i'm making for my brother. This song got a lot of airplay when we were traveling through Montana, believe it or not. If anyone has an mp3 link I"d love to have it.
Minnesota has the best of both worlds. If you like snow in the winter...If you like the beach in the summer...I will never leave this state for too long..Long Live Minnesaota and rock on !!!!
I grew up in the northern part, I love the song, miss my family and friends, but not the cold. I will be buried there, nothing like growing up in a small town. It will make you think differant if you are from there,
I heard this song back in the 70's and kept wondering who the group was. I did hear this song about a week ago on radio and finally found out it was Northern Light. Great outdoor scenes in this video. Thanks for posting this.
It's a converted 45 to an mp3. I first heard it on a plane over the midwest and my overnight stay in St. Paul at a Holiday Inn after our flight was re-routed.
my mom and I heard this song on the radio and couldn't catch the info... I remember this song a long time ago.. early 80's perhaps? Thanks for posting this!! It's such an awesome song!!!
They DO sound like the Beach Boys. I listen to this over and over again and never thought about it until you mentioned it. Great song, thanks for posting it! Everything is excellent about it, the lyrics, music, and the slide show. Thanks!
i lived in Los Angeles when both this and Think Snow were released, but because I was a radio promotion man, I became familiar with both songs. I love them both, and play them often.
Thanks very much for posting this classic. I've loved this epic tune ever since I first heard it when I was eight years old. Makes me think of my youth, growing up in the '70s. They were much simpler days - I miss them dearly.
Hi, again! If you want to catch "Saturday Night at the '70's" on WLTE, from Minneapolis, MINNESOTA, it's at 102.9, not 101.9. My bad. Also, I'm fairly certain the lines are "I've been a run-away, and I've seen my hoBo days..." I'm just sayin'. And finally (at least for now), I fell instantly in love with this song when I first heard it on the AM radio (was there FM back then?) even though I lived in South Dakota...I now live in Minneapolis :)
AT LAST!!! Finally, someone has posted this GREAT song! I bought this single (and the follow-up, "THINK SNOW!"). Thank you so much for the post. This is one of my all-time favorite songs (and other people's, as well, apparently, since it's one of the most requested songs at, at least, two local Minneapolis, MINNESOTA radio stations...Love 105 and the show "Saturday Night at the Seventies" on WLTE 101.9)
You're welcome and I'll try to catch the broadcast. It really should have been a national hit. It probably was not promoted very well by the label. (Like that ever happens!)
This song shot up the charts here in Iowa I remember.Got alot of airplay. Unlike Mark Lindsey's Arizona song Minnesota is really about the state.
Rusfi10 1 month ago
@FastEddie - I remember that. On KROC-FM. And "I'm Going Quackers". It was Kim David's / Bill Davis' way to "officially" kick off the weekend.
