They also fly off the cliff up at the north east tip of the island at Pololu Valley Lookout where Akoni Pule Hwy ends. At least they did back in 99 & 2000. Was on the Big Island visiting my daughter who lived in Kapaau at the time.
Aaah paradise. Beach, nice weather and airplanes you got that right. Last July when I went to Maui I visited the R/C club there and it was great. Not by the beach but right under Haleakalā which made a great backdrop :) My next goal is to slope off the cliffs on Kaua'i next time I visit!
