  • @thechrissinator wrong song there buddy

  • @elliottsmitth No, he's right. The Decemberists cover this on the To Elliott, From Portland tribute album.

  • i might be the only one, but i feel like becks voice fits this song and a lot of elliotts other music really well.

  • When you listen to a tribute performance, keep in mind you're listening to the sum of impressions - as interpreted by an artist - of someone else's work. This is what Beck got out of an Elliott Smith song, and a pretty difficult one at that!

Pretty clear he had an influence on Beck. Just listen to his live performances of Broken Tears. Man, LA must have been a really fu ed up place in the late 90's/ early naughties...

  • Aww. <3

  • i don't think the singing sounds bad at all

nice cover to a great great song

  • Guys, don't be assholes. Yeah, he messed up a few times, but I doubt that Elliott would want you all to be dissing his friend for trying to pay tribute to him or comparing the two of them. It is what it is.

  • Let's be clear, its not the singing that's wrong here - its the guitar. Its wrong and broken.

  • Beck dug Elliott and vice versa. Always wanted to hear this. Thanks for putting it up. It's a wonderful song and a good choice for the memorial. Thanks again.

  • this is the best of becks elliott covers. even though he fucks up a bit. clementine is one of my favorite songs so i was ready to be disappointed, but wasn't. also like what he said at the end

    "thanks elliott...i'm gonna miss you"

    class act.

  • when i read all the comments i became sceptical to listening to this, as i love both beck and elliot smith, but this is a beautiful cover, no idea what you're talking about guys : ]

  • @Olewastaken Why would anyone take any comments on YouTube seriously? To me, they're proof that humanity isn't evolving; it's doomed.

  • Beck's voice may not sound the best in this recording. But don't forget that he was playing this about a month after Elliott died, probably as a hommage. Maybe it's because of the emmotion that he couldn't sing it totally well.

  • Yea, he sang this actually two weeks after Elliott's death.

  • wow. pretty good cover but elliott cant be beat

  • elliott has always been better then beck. what are you talking about?

  • @mooninites755

I don't know if you're comment is true for sure.. its kind of subjective.. they are both great artists.. Beck is very good and is better than elliott at some things, and elliott is better than beck at some things.. It just comes down to what you like more.. think back to any live elliott vids you've seen.. it's about the same as this in terms of inperfection..

  • love it - love elliott MORE - but love it. =)

  • It's not bad. It's almost impossible to cover Elliott without sounding a little off/whiny, even if you are a musical genius like Beck.

  • @sblood311 the decemberists did an INCREDIBLE job on this song.

  • lol I can hear the sounds of whatever it is recording.

    Great great song.

  • if u dont like it dont watch it, beck is a musical genuis. so wat if he gets a few lyrics wrong? u would 2. dam music critic.

  • Well, he has to watch it to find out if he likes it or not, dipshit.

  • woah, i forgot about that comment, anyway, beck is a good, musicain, and im sure your right about the listenin to find out if he likes it thing, sorry, i didnt even consider that. my bad :P

  • I can't seem to find the rest of this tribute concert anywhere, does anyone have any clue how to find it?

  • great

  • *sniff*
