  • what is the voltage and gauge? seems cape gauge and loco seems like a WCM class with WDM type controls! I myself a loco pilot! (WCM and WDM are IRs main line DC and Diesel Locos)

  • In minute 1.03 you can see Fred's hand on the throttle. Below the safety bar is the reverser in the forward position. up above is the smaller control handle for selecting Dynamic braking or power modes. The automatic and independant brake handles are located back, far left bottom under the R/T cables. Great memories. Cheers.

  • cool accent...

  • that is an electric engine(s) right?

  • narrow guage ?

  • At 0.28 you say 14,000 tons,,,you meant to say 1460 tons as mentioned in you More info, good vid anyway mate.

  • nice video =)

  • Paekakariki the girls are cheeky :P done that run before. Hi fred

  • That was really cool. I wish we had scenery like that here in ohio. I enjoyed the video and you are lucky to be in that train.

  • This is a example of wonderful railway.

I like to drive locomotive because of that.

  • Great video very good, but I'm curious how is it possible that the selector lever is on middle pozition but the locomotive still has the traction power. Shouldn't teh selector lever be in forward pozition for power and in back position for dinamic brake?

  • The lever is only for throttle operation, notches 1 - 8, unless of course you are talking about the reverser level (for forwards and backwards operation). Train brake, and the dynamic brake (if fitted) are entirely different controls (if memory serves me right :) )

  • That lever on some version's of the "EMD" style selector will stay in the middle. You toggle it forward or back for throttle and dynamic, but then return it to center once the desired mode has been selected. On some older diesel's with manual transistion, you selected series/parallel/series-parallel configuration of the traction motors with this lever as well.

  • Great and beautiful video.

  • it looks like its narrow gauge...what is its width?

  • 3'6", 1067mm. =)

  • Thanks man....oh btw, who is the loco manufacturer? GE ..GM...or someone else....and do trains in NZ have cabooses or Freds like me use?

  • General Motors Electro Motive Division manufactured the locomotives seen in this video (DC class). From what I've seen, New Zealand doesn't use cabooses. Sorry =)

  • what kinda locomotive is this?

  • A DC locomotive is a rebuilt DA locomotive, which is an EMD G12.

  • you sound like a retard man. 14,000 tonnes, wateva, wat a dick

  • Great video. Thank you.

  • You are lucky man, no one can see that views :) Nice video :)

  • Beautiful! Thanks.

  • one, two, three, four, five, sex, seven...

  • I know locomotive engineer very well he is almost 40 years locomotive engineer yes awesome climbing at Pukerua Bay

  • it cannot be 14,000 tonnes, i doubt this guy is a driver, he is a foamer, train nutter. hahaha

  • It can be, depending on the luggage

    Duh

  • well not in new zealand idoit!!!! i should know i was a shunter at Westfield and now a driver, and it is certainly not 14,000T, more like 1400T

  • yeah when the bloke said 14,000 tons, the driver corrected him and said "hundred" so it is definitely not 14,000; much too heavy for pussy NZ rails

  • They do, csmgj.

  • I wonder if they run passenger trains on that line. It looked very scenic.

  • cool

  • Nice place, isn't it? I live in this area. Nice video, Mike!
