That is one of the cleanest and most attentive-to-detail replicas I've seen on Youtube, really great Job! I have a '74 hardtop thay I'm going to covert inti a Herbie but it will be a red and silver two-tone with the 53s and stripes "shadowed"in.

I've got a '75 camper bus and a '77 convertible superbeetle... but man that bug there is just awesome. mine are all mint, i never drive them. i think my next project is a '62 bug... but isn't herbie a '53 bug? i thot thats where the number 53 came from on his hood. dunno. jus wondering, i was a HUGE herbie fan when i was a kid. Herbie's a 1963. the number "53" came from the producer of the original movie, who was a fant of the LA Dodgers. His favorite player on the Dodgers was Don Drysdale (sp?) and his number was "53"

That's strange; I read (forget where) that he was no. 53 to signify that he's a "wild card". You get 52 playing cards in a deck, and the 53rd is the joker.

Yuck, why make a poser Herbie, especially out of an ugly SB. Sell your 72 and buy a 62 cloth sunroof Beetle to make into a Herbie. The Orig. Herbie was a 62

Well I've never had much of a fancy for Super Beetles, good for parts though. However, I do infact own a 67 Beetle, and I have no desire to make it into a Herbie. I guess if you are going for looks a nasty SB will do. If your going for accuracy, get a 1958-63 Beetle. It doesnt take that much money to make a beetle into a Herbie. You can get the decals online and get a decent Macco paint job and your good to go. Toatal cost should run you under $ 800.
