  • Is it me, or is he wearing contacts at 3:55 - they look pretty blue/green there...

  • @02:40

  • I like his take on American woman.

  • 4:58-5:04 is priceless

  • We need more wise men like Miles to guide us in life... Miles is so informative and wise.

  • "Im not sure how I feel about him as a person ..." I didn't know a journalist was supposed to tell us how he feels, asshole.

  • This is such a great insight to Miles. He is one of those straightforward men who tells it like it is.

  • I feel like there is a definite undertone of disrespect by the reporter.

  • @MrNevillebamshoot You got that too? I was thinking the same thing.

  • Does anyone want to tell me the story of this guy?

  • omg i love him

  • "you did a lot of bad things"

    "like what?"

"well, you said you were pimping for a while"

    "is that bad?"

  • Miles voice, is giving me the same chills as nails against a chalkboard..

  • interviewer is the biggest idiot

  • This interviewer is so condescending. Its ridiculous. No wonder Miles answered the questions the way he did. & his Paintings were incredible. Anyone who has a slight appreciation for art, can see his talent. Maybe I'm biased. :D

  • Miles sticks his tongue out like the Joker in the Dark Knight.

  • DUDE: You did a lot of bad things.

    MILES: Like what?

DUDE: You said you were pimping for a while.

    MILES: Is that bad?

    tightey whitey learned something.

  • @M1STERPYGMY you are a racist man... music is trying to erase that from our society... somehow you fail to see that... there are no whiteys and darkies... we are all people.

You sir are promoting the very thing about which you are obviously still angry. These days you succeed or fail on your own. You know... we have a black man in the white house... that erased all excuses. No one left to blame for your failures.

  • @abzgroupinc i'm not promoting squat, it's a freaking youtube joke.

You need to appreciate that some people, particularly famous innovators, tend to have attitude and "acrid" character. Sure, miles has flaws, he's human, that's why he's so interesting. You're never too rich to be angry, because you'll always be utterly human. He earned his opinions, and he listened to a lot of criticism.

If everyone was a humorless idealist like yourself, the world would be flavorless.

    BTW i'm white. jackass.

  • Are you anti-white?

    Not right now

  • Harry Reasoner is exactly the wrong person to interview Miles. I can only imagine what was going through Miles head listening to dumb question after dumb question. You can even sense Reasoner's discomfort at being around Miles. Terrible interview. Totally pointless.

  • @gretschjazzer This interview showed how mentally ill Miles really was. He never grew out of his anger. It is not well know that his father was a very well to do black man. That was in an era of great racism, yet his father succeeded. What was Miles angry about???? He too became very successful. WTF

  • @abzgroupinc WTF are you talking about is the real question. Success does not grant instant happiness and enlightenment of mind. Only a fool would think that.

Just as enlightenment and happiness does not instantly grant success.

  • @abzgroupinc Perhaps he was angry about policement beating him up outside Birdland as he was taking a break from playing. I don't guess you white folks can ever understand the long lasting effects of racism and the violence that often stems from it. Let me go upside your head and beat you nearly to death and see if you don't have a chip on your shoulder. Ask Reginald Denny. I bet he has some anger issues also.

  • @speakwhnspkn2 I would have the same opinion of Miles regardless of what color he was. My grandparents were burned in ovens for being Jewish. I was born in Poland where antisemitism was and still is rampant. I chose to get over things and get on with my life. Miles made a career based on his anger. BTW he came from an affluent background. How he lived his life was his choice to make.

  • What a pathetic and sad human being. Wynton Marsalis plays circles around Miles Davis.

  • @abzgroupinc hater

  • @hujnumer1 I don't hate anyone. If this were a competition of trumpet players Wynton would win hands down. Miles on the other hand is mired in a mystique because of his burning anger. For some reason that sits well with some people. Beats me. Technically and musically Wynton is probably the best trumpet player in the world. He is equally good in Jazz and Classical music. Miles is one angry man. Anger is a poison that corrodes the vessel which contains it. Miles is a perfect example

  • @abzgroupinc Listen to Fats Navarro, Booker Little, Donald Byrd, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Dorham, Dizzy Gillespie & learn from them. Wynton is really not that great, he's good but not as good as you claim. imo

  • @pseudokowski Wynton not that good? Are you kidding? Wynton has had a great career in both classical music and in jazz. Wynton is the most technically proficient jazz trumpeter ever. Miles was sloppy on most of his later stuff. I never looked at Miles as the model for technical proficiency on the trumpet, but always admired his ability to pick great sidemen that complimented him. Clifford Brown, Fats Navarro, Freddy Hubbard and Lee Morgan were all better trumpet players in my opinion.

  • @speakwhnspkn2 Wynton has no soul! he's technical yes but has very little soul I've seen him perform & met him. He's a nice cat but i prefer Fats,Morgan & Booker. Do you play Trumpet or another instrument? I play Trumpet and have for over 15 years studied for 5 in State University. Miles was not sloppy, it was intentional for him to fluff a note here and there.

  • @abzgroupinc Miles changed alot of people's lives. Alot of Jazz Musicians. Just sayin man.

  • @gpitts08 No doubt he was good but his aura is greater than he deserves. There are many local musicians who are not known who are far better in every way. They just do not have the acrid and noisy personality of Miles and are happy to play good music without being known on a national or international arena. That is specially true in Detroit and Chicago... other cities can claim that. These superb musicians chose to live normal lives instead of seeking fame.

  • whats the song at the end?

  • thought this was going to be about jazz, its just some wanker asking him personal questions

  • "Is the prostitute gonna get a ride in the sports car?" ...."She might"

    Love this man.

  • Come un-- how are you gonna tell a "Pimp" that pimping is bad?

  • "You said you were pimping for a while.." "Is that bad?" yesss

  • this is some bullshit interviewing here. the fuckin guy is judging him the whole time rather than just talkin to him like a normal person. holier than thou hypocritical bullshit journalism.

  • @gregahunt yeah spot on

  • @gregahunt Miles was not a normal person. He is mentally ill. His addiction to drugs is a result of his attempt to quiet down the fire in his mind and sole. You can see the pain in his eyes.

  • 2:34 "These are nude bodies of women, they have no arms...this is a sports car, this is a light, this is a prostitute...this is an airplane"

  • @RedEyesRhott Nick Kyritsis.

  • @metalYES12 Dick cron aka Dick cunt

  • @0:23 seconds.......Interviewer: "You said you were pimping for a while." Miles Davis: "Is that bad?" lmao!

  • whats wrong with his voice?

  • @loombaron miles had throat problems throughout his career and I believe he had surgery that made his voice sound like a bad ass back in the 50's or 60's.

  • oh didnt know that, thanks

  • I wish Miles was still aliVe! !! Makeing his beutiful songs...

  • Genius.

  • genius...

  • "They gave me a couple hundred dollars...A NIGHT" LOL. RIP jazz legend Miles.

  • "Do you feel your age?"

    "Where?"

    I love Miles.

  • These are nude images of women... They have no arms... This is a sportscar... This is a prostitute... This is an airplane... Lol

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 you delete your accounts because the comments other people make about you and the offence they send back to you brings you to another realization that you're an asshole.you have become addicted to trying to become 'other 'than a youtube asshole.look at your chanel name!its like a daily affirmation to yourself that you're not an asshole.the man in the mirror reaffirmes to you everyday. not buy words but by puke.they'll like you if u STFU.

  • The questions may have been dumb, but the "upper-middle-class" comment wasn't technically unfair...

If I remember my sociology classes correctly, being upper-class in America depends, among other things, on how long you've had your money. For example, someone who wins a big lottery isn't automatically considered upper-class. The "older" the money the better, e.g. when the money's been in your family for several generations.

  • Upper midclass? The brother was rich and earned it.

  • Could Harry Reasoner have licked his ass any harder?

  • Great answers to rather silly questions. Even cool in interviews.

What is he saying at 6:51? "I can't wait til......?"

It is rather funny that one of the worlds greatest trumpeters is called upper middle class..

  • @cheeezdooodle He says, "I learned something last night...I can't wait to apply."

  • @pzcato Oh OK-thanks!

  • Miles didn't deserve Cicely Tyson. She probably got jealous because he was cheating on her.

  • Hey! I remember watching this interview when it first aired. I was just starting to get into Miles at the time. Judging from the stories I've heard since then, I get the impression this was a rare instance of Miles being talkative.

  • Miles was the birth of cool...and no one can touch him when it comes to that horn. This is why he has the #1 jazz album in history still today.

  • Oh God. He has horses? They should interview the horses. That would be some shit right there.

  • Miles Davis Has Great Philosophies On American Women, I Couldn't Have Said It Better Myself.

  • upper middle class???..won't even give him the benefit of calling him rich..

  • @sunofman2008 I don't know too many middle class people with Ferraris and beach front property in Malibu.

  • @sunofman2008 i wouldn't mind being in that "upper middle class", he owns a Ferrari and a big ass mansion. And yet he deserves much more.

  • @sunofman2008 They were referring to his upbringing, Miles was raised in an upper middle class "white neighborhood", unlike the majority of his peers.

  • @sunofman2008 EXACTLY! As if he always stayed in that bracket!

  • @sunofman2008 no question thats messed up. "is the prostitute gonna get a ride.." ?? Lame journalist and team. Media throwing it's weight around against a giant of creation and bravado can suck it!

  • @sunofman2008 Haha right?

  • Miles is cool

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug..

  • I can't believe the shit answers Miles Davis gives. He seems pretty full of himself. Let's say he expresses himself better on the trumpet...

  • @ladoudi for shit questions you get shit answers

  • @shimeonmorpheus Great answers to shit questions.

  • @darinbar you dont get it

  • @shimeonmorpheus exactly

  • Comment removed

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 I know you're not a musician no real musician would denigrate one of the Greatest Musicians to ever come along in American Music. As far as your so called jazz musician brother he is a joke and you have proven that fact by failing to identify him. That can only be because he's accomplished nothing and you're ashame. I know you're not Black I knew that from the beginning you Homogenized Coward. Finally it's not about me I just had to put your Pasterized Ass in his place. GFY

  • RIP - MILES DAVIS.

  • Than its not pimping its escorting. Huge difference.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 You & your so called jazz musician brother attempt to denigrate Miles Davis. You justify this by stating he worked with S. Kenton and W. Herman. None of those Homogenized Pasterized Lilly White bands ever hired a Black Musician. They never hired a Dizzy, Charlie Parker or a John Coltrane. Your brother being a product of that pathetic shit has the nerve to denigrate Miles Davis. But to be fair Miles would have never played with those sorry MF's. including your brother.

  • @CHC4669 Dizzy played with Kenton for a short while. Kenton was forced to fire him because he was so disruptive. Cab Calloway had the same experience with Dizzy.

Miles never associated with JAMF players. He was about learning and new experiences. You don't get that playing with JAMF's.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 I think you're mentally ill. You have a life oh I forgot you "teach and learn" language right LoL. "Why not just go ahead and commit suicide?" Man you need to check into the best mental institution you can find for a six month observation. You go off on a tangent about you have a life. I don't give a shit about you. I'm still waiting for your so called jazz musician brother's body of work. Where is it? Put up or Shut your Mouth Imbecile. Now GFYM She's Waiting.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 I see other members have stepped up and put you in your place. Take your bullshit along with your brother an go away Imbecile.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Felt good listening to the Man's philosophy.

  • Fun fact: Miles Davis outlived Harry Reasoner.

  • 60 mins: "Miles do you enjoy cheese?"

    Miles: "where?"

60 mins: "would you say there are some interesting new jazz musicians in the most recent years?"

    Miles: "why?"

60 mins: "Do you think Obama is leading the country is a productive and positive direction? Follow up question: Has he had to remodel any of the previous administrations constructions?"

    Miles: "When?"

  • You look at his whole career he was always interested ,excited about and looking for the next new thing. Thats not selling out, as some of his peers may have thought, that is keeping young and fresh. Plus creative geniuses get bored very easily.

  • I don't get it, he looked really good considering him aged 63, he moved good. He looked younger than 63. He was really living. Why did he die so suddenly two years later? God could've spared him at least 5 more years to reach 70. On the other hand, he did live a longer life than other legends, like Bird, Trane...

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 Ok you win, I lost. Congratulations man!!

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 but you had to come here to comment on this video.. look man I dont care, I just read your comments below and thought I should say something. You seem like a very sad angry little man who needs something in his life. Miles work speaks for itself. Next time i just wont read any comments. lol its amazing how in almost every youtube video there is constant bickering between people thats completely irrelevant. Enjoy life people.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 LoL Man up you chose to denegrate Miles Davis and I put you in your place. Initially I didn't give any thought to your brother playing with S. Kenton & W. Herman because I never listened those bands. Then it dawned on me none of those bands ever had any Black Musicians. The Iconic Jazz Musicians who were the Innovators & Creators of the music never came through those bands. And that tells me everything about your so called jazz musician brother. He's NOBODY& NEITHER R U.

  • dude.. hihellohowareyou1000.. seriously what is wrong with you? If miles is so bad why are you hear listening to him man..?

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 What happened Sparkey? You couldn't cut the gig and Miles told you to pack your shit and get the fuck outta here. That must have cut deep and ended your dream. You put down the instrument never to pick it up again and everytime you see the horn collecting dust in the back of the closet the bitterness of that moment haunts you. Miles Imasculated you, took your manhood in front of everybody and you haven't gotten over it. Grow up Sparkey get over it you can still sell shoes.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 I didn't say anything factual really lol. Oh Coltrane, Herbie, Gil Evans, Paul Chambers, Tony Williams, Charlie Parker, Wynton Kelly, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, Cannonbal Adderly, Jimmy Cobb, Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, Kieth Jarrett, Philly Joe Jones, Billy Eckstien, and I can go on and on are not a part of his body of work and legacy. Still waiting for Sparkey''s body of work lol. This is the one time I'll break my code not to insult you.

    YOU ARE A FUCKING IMBECILE

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 Sparkey you didn't play with Basie in 1968 or any other year. The closes you came to playing with Basie is carrying the musicians instruments. You're some "Has Been that Never Was" carrying the weight and bitterness of your failure to be a jazz musician. What happen did you try to get the gig with Miles only to have him tell you to get the fuck off the stage. It's well known Miles didn't bite his tongue. That must have destroyed you not only as a musician but as a man.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 I think I figured it all out you're actually the so called jazz musician your referring to as your brother and the ficticious John Doe "Sparkey". Sparkey I don't believe your a musician let alone played with anyone and certainly not Basie. You obviously harbor some ill feelings towards Miles Davis. You probably were some no playing musician who at one point tried to get a gig with Miles and he told you to get the fuck off the bandstand. Is that what happen Sparkey?

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 I knew you wouldn't mention his name. You have no credibility and your opinions are absolutely worthless. There's no reason for you not to reveal your brothers identity if you were truly proud of his work & accomplishments. Clearly you aren't and that is obvious because the you resort to name calling and insults. That is always the sign of a weak man and his position. I won't call you any names or hurdle any insults because I don't ned to. I just kick your Azz with facts.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 What's the name of the album and again what's Sparkey's real name. Or is the album just headed as "Sparkey". Anyway hope it's successful. Again when did he play with Basie I'd like to verify that as I'm quite familiar with Basie's personnel through the years. Was he with Basie in 63 when Basie and Sinatra did the live album at the Sands arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones. It's tiime to get down to the nitty gritty and talk facts not innuendo and wanna be bullshit.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 I was paraphrasing how you addressed me in your comments. You started with "Look Sparkey" Once again I'm not Sparkey lol lets move on. Oh have you spoken with Coltrane, Parker, or Adderly? I'm sure you haven't cause you would never be in the company of those calibur of musicians. Miles personal or business dealings have nothing to do with his musicianship and his body of work. Again who is "Sparkey" whats his real name. I can verify if he was ever with Basie, doubt it.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 "Look Sparkey" R U suffering from dementia? I'm not Sparkey. Sparkeys records aren't considered classics, No! He played with Basie in the 60s whats his real name? I'm sure Duke's band was full. "Davis "body" of crap lol please. I'm sure Coltrane, Herbie, Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Charlie Parker, Gil Evans, Cannonball Adderly, Philly Joe, Wayne Shorter, all are a part that "body" of crap. No Sparkey in that company that's 4 sure.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 Clown? Ok I got you "insults" because I called you on the carpet. I'm fully aware there are many great musicians who never achieve commercial success. Great Sparkey played with S. Kenton & W. Herman kind of makes me curious. No Ellington? No Basie? Kenton & Herman were ok but not My Idea of the "Heart & Soul" of the music by any stretch of the imagination. You denegrate Miles Davis please his Body of Work speaks for itself. Still waiting for you to submit Sparkey's.

  • @hihellohowareyou1000 Your brother who is a REAL jazz musician told you all about him and that he was a sell-out whore?? Wow you learn something every day. Tell me how many records has your brother done that are considered to be the Classic's in Jazz. I have most of Miles Davis greatest records I just want to make sure I have some of your brothers. Get back to me with his catalogue I want to get right on it.

  • this is what happens when you are so far beyond your contemporaries intellectually and mentally. He has so much talent and intelligence that it has become a problem for him.

  • "Well you said you were pimping for a while..." "Is that bad?"

  • wow what dumb questions! and what a feast to watch miles` reactions and his facial expressions.. "will you ever get married again?" .... "to whom?!" haha .. great

  • "Are you Anti-white" ?... "Not all the time".... ROFLMAO

  • @henniebogan1 Yeah, that was fuckin' hilarious. Even the way he delivered it in such a casual manner. It was as if the interviewer asked him "How often do you go the mall?" or "How often do you go fishing?" LOL

  • i loove you take it..

  • Miles was one of a kind.

  • @PaulGreen11 I definitely agree & can relate to what you're saying about level headed black women. You're definitely on point with that statement.

  • Miles Davis - so awesome that prostitutes paid HIM...JUST TO HANG OUT!

  • "I felt she was a level minded black woman, but she switched." Now thats the story of a blackmans love for blackwomen, even when it comes to our mothers.

  • Miles Davis, The definition of Jazz !! Always & 4-Ever.

  • miles davis was the truth.

  • Man this guy was born in a seriously racial period and he's had to deal with disgusting acts of racism. That's why he's always mad at white people. Those days have stuck with him ever since. I felt bad for him, honestly. But God, when he stepped on that stage, he entered a new world, a new frame of mind. The guy could really play, he lived, ate, and breathed Jazz.

  • you said you were pimpin' for a while, is that bad? LOL

  • Love Miles Davis, but this interview must have been a nightmare for the audio guy.

  • These are probably staged or scripted question but his answers are brilliant.

  • If he didn't have hair he would look like Seal lol...

  • @unlimitedunification No, no. That's not what I think it means.

It's that inside of us part that he's talking about, that is, was, and always will just be that "me" that we all feel. It has no age. It stays just "us" all the time we live.

  • put on the captions :)

  • MILES DAVIS WAS A PIMP?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lilejamie93 Yes, he was.

  • I am so happy by seeing and listening to this! He was even greater than I thought.

  • wow....

  • Imo opinion Miles is the most creative, groundbreaking artist of all time.

  • Still the coolest man to ever walk the planet

  • Miles Davis was an artist

  • His eyes r SO beautiful!

  • i guess everyone has an opinion. i liked it, THANKS.

    Gracias.

  • Are you anti-white? F*ckin' moron. Seriously, you are interviewing Miles freaking Davis and that's what you ask him?

  • @Rossonero072213 That was a classic old white man question for Miles

  • This interview is wasted on Miles. The questions are superficial and stupid. Why bring up Cicely Tyson or anything that doesn't have to do with his amazing creative impulses. I like controversial questions but most of these were puerile.

  • an upper middle class black man?

  • @rebrane Well, I guess if one's father was a black dentist and one didn't have to bow down to white folks as much as most of "us" had to in those days, then, perhaps by "old white man" standards, you are considered to be an upper middle class black man....(?) Or, did he mean uppity? Nah, he meant uppity. -Ha-ha!

  • I just can't believe it's been 20 years since he died....

  • Can anyone tell me what tune is playing from 5:04 to 5:20? Thanks!

  • @TheLolCatt It's "Big Time" from the album "Amandla".

  • Listen to Miles' voice...then put on the movie,"The Godfather" and listen to Marlon Brando's voice. Bet you can't tell them apart!!!

  • @johnhrobiii I was just watching a Steely Dan documentary and one of the horns players was doing a Miles impression and then I realised if you can nail the croaky Miles voice then Don Corleone is there as well.

  • @johnhrobiii llooooll

  • Comment removed

  • Ed Bradley asks.. "What's wrong with american women?".... The best question of the interview.

  • If I ever had the opportunity to interview Miles Davis, I'd probably unknowingly spend the entire time asking him about "Bitches Brew" and "Kind of Blue" and all that happened musically in the 10 years between those albums.

    "Time's up"

"Really? I haven't even asked him about "Sketches of Spain" or playing with Tony Williams or John Coltrane or how he put "Birth of the Cool" together. Damn."

  • pimpin aint easy miles...ifeelz you

  • Master.

  • Decades of amazing recordings and performances and the interviewer asks these stupid irrelevant questions?

  • Are you anti-white?!!

    Seriously?

  • ellen degeneres should interview miles to give miles all her love , not this stupid ass

  • Miles doesnt have to tell u that u stupid. U just know it.

  • All I've got to say is why the fuck didn't they get Ed Bradley to do this interview? This motherfucker is clueless about Miles' importance in American history and music history and it shows in the stupid ass questions he keeps asking him. Are you comfortable, you got enough money to live? Would this guy ask a white superstar like Elton John such a ignorant, obvious-ass question?

  • @intrepidpooch stupid dumb interviewer

  • The interviewer was so annoying. I wonder if he knows and believes what he's asking about, or whether he knows that people behind their TVs like that. When he says, "you're rich Miles", so f(&')(n what? I mean, what is Miles supposed to say? Na., im not, yeah, so what?

  • does any one know the song name starting in 6:55

  • @shararockboy it's probably the end measures of Time After Time they played it at Montreux and that's what it sounded like.

  • @MasterMonstruwacan yes ! thank's !

    --Miles
