Firstly, I thought there was quite a bit of laughter
Secondly, he did rush through it a bit. I've heard the material before and it's not his top stuff, and neither did he really do it justice.
Thirdly, the amount of laughter depends on TWO things. ONE - how much the audience laughs, and TWO - how loud it is in the mix. If what we heard here was only Ricky's mic, it meant they tore the house down. Notice how he stops himself at times? The audience interrupted him. Only we couldn't hear them.
Its amazing how humour isn't universal, some people get it some don't, this is painful to watch. I'm not saying the americans don't have a sense of humour, rather this humour isn't part of their culture. you only have to watch the The Office from both countries to see the difference in humour
okay i notice people are slting yanks on here. right, i used to live in cleveland. my step-sister was a cheerleader, with cheerleader friends..... in journalism (class), she asked me (i swear this is true!!) 'hey drew..... you know in england..... what language do you guys speak?'
i don't know, if you meet someone from there, see if they know. i can toally understand why americans get the image of being a tad dumb
They're probably not laughing because they've heard all of those jokes 1000 times. This is all old recycled material, plus he doesnt exactly look comfortable up there. Im a fan of Rickys but this was pretty painfull to watch.
@Tom4Cheese the fact is most people in the audience will not have heard any of his material before. he plays on awkwardness, doesn't finish sentences etc which is why you think it looks uncomfortable.
No lol, I know Rickys awkward act and thats not what I mean, the act that he's doing in this video is from his fame tour, if you watch that and watch this you can tell he is not in his element here, he seems abit off. Sort of what you'd expect at a pub gig.
I think it's the audio.

He's so good at adapting the jokes along the way when he realises the audience isn't getting it.

Ricky, stick to what you're good at. Leave stand up to the pros.

If you don't get Ricky Gervais' style of humor then its your loss, I doubt anyone was really offended though.

If you have to say 'im joking' twice, less than 30 seconds in then you know its not going well.
