Copeland is a top drummer, for me he is the best ! unique style and sound. the guy is so modest " the police invented me as a musician" top line top guy top drummer
such an intense-talented individual! Maybe mellowed(in mood, not playing) with age. I saw the Police reunion tour back in 2007 in Montreal, He was the most impressive.
What a cool video! Love Stewart Copelands feel and sound behind the kit. Sychronicity was a little bit hi-fi and I prefere the style of the earlier Police albums but his drums have always sounded fantastic.
In the mid 80's I had 4 octobans of the same sizes. I could kick myself in the teeth for selling them! The cost to replace them now is out of my range.
but copeland is a mastermind and if u bothered to listen to ANY of their songs, it suits the songs PERFECTLY i'm sure you could make a better kit for YOURSELF but now for POLICE or he would have found it.....
what does he mean one quarter not to the right thats how he got famous?
anyway man is a genious, he thinks differently then any other drummer and the reggae rock mix is still something that guys dont do these days. he's a genious
Basically, whereas the band is playing standard time, you are ahead of them by a quarter note (or behind as he said he did)...it makes it sound funky as hell, but when done properly, it adds room for serious improv
He was SO far ahead of his time. Married rock and reggae, properly introduced the flam to modern music, and, got through his career very cleanly. He is still not 1 per cent less humble than when he began. You Police Members were the punkers WITH a brain.
Watching Stewart Copeland play brings me back to the 80s when I played for many years. Makes me want to get back behind the kit... Maybe I'll teach my son.
Stewart looks like he'd be the coolest person to know. I mean, he's not just the best drummer ever, but he seems really quite smart and articulate in this video. And he has a quirky sense of humor. See 3:50
@McDrummerSLR I want his drum kit

Yamaha are the best drums. Paiste are the best cymbals. This equipment is used by the world's greatest rock drummer Larry Mullen Jr.

Not quite an exact copy of his 1983 kit because his 1983 kit had 3 rack toms whereas his 2007 kit had 2.

you are correct and i thought the same thing. stewart rules!! he also only played one floor tom in the older days.
