  • What a lovely song you've introduced me to....thank you. (And by the way, I love your rambles...)

  • thank you M:))

  • Skip to 1:10 -the first minute must be refering to previous song.

    Super guitar playing. Thanks

And thanks for making it quite cheery!

btw :After much discussion in other places, the song book is out now and the line in the third verse is "Eagerly savour each new day and the taste of it's mouth"

  • hi.. sometimes i just ramble .. it helps to put that 'moment' into some form of context.. there is often a theme to the sequence of songs.. thanks for listening and the 'line' i often wondered.. cheers Mike

  • Skip to 1:10 -the first minute must be refering to previous song.

  • Might have known! Found a new song that I love, so I go onto Youtube & who is playing it, Yep!

    See you at Warwick.

    David

  • Hi David.. lol.. see you at Warwick.. and a beer!!

  • Beautifully played and sung. I heard this for the first time yesterday at a memorial service. Thank you for your video. I know you're not into teaching, but is there any chance you can post your chord progression?

  • amazing!

  • Thanks for your comment and for passing by Daniela. M

  • Wow.... This song makes me quite beautifully sentimental. Thanks for your tip. Another 10 points from Germany. Mike your are wonderful.

  • opps missed this lovely comment.. sorry for the delay.... regards

  • You are such a joy to watch play. Thanks for posting this. :)

  • Thanks Tiff. If there was one song I could take to a desert island, I think it would be this one. M:)

  • One of the most unutterably beautiful songs ever written. From what I've read, I doubt Ewan MacColl had much time for organised religion - but this song seems to capture the essence of life (and death). It's a pity no film seems to exist of him performing it. Perhaps I'm a just sentimental exiled northerner, but it always brings a tear to the eye.

  • sang along with this, one of my favs. we could sing this as a duo.. C x

  • good call, I find it hard to get through this song at times.. really beautiful words

  • Hello! This is lovely, I've only every heard Rory McLeod's version before now (lovely too of course). Just wanted to say I enjoyed this very much. Such a beautiful song and beautifully sung.

  • Many thanks for your note. I haven't heard Rory's version but I'll look it up from your channel when I get back home. Regards M:)

  • you did this song a lot of justice. ewan's songs don't suit many but this was good. great sound you have (vocal and guitar.)

  • Many thanks for those kind words. Ewan's contribution was gigantic both in timeless songs and words. I think this was one of his must beautiful.

  • you're very welcome, credit where credit is due. you're a very talented musician.

ewan always felt like he failed because he never quite managed to get things at a place he was happy with but yeah, i agree with you, his contribution was massive. it would make him very happy to know there are talented people still out there such as yourself, who can give his songs a new life.

    thanks for this

    n

  • Thank you. Your words are full of warmth and grace. True artists are never happy with what they do no matter how brilliant their work is. Its a testament to Ewan's artistry and humanity that he felt that way. I'm inspired to work on more of his songs I use to play. Its lovely to converse with you. M:)

  • that would be great to hear you do some more maccoll songs. i'll look forward to hearing some more from you.

i don't leave comments for people often, in fact, i only signed up today so i could leave a comment on this. i really am impressed! really hope to hear you do more of ewan's music.

  • What a pleasure to listen to this, as I see the autumn winds blowing through the trees and over the hills. How the years fly by. At least they bring more time to appreciate the beauty and joys of life. Thank you.

  • I could listen to these kinds of songs all day! What an optimistic message! You have really good taste in music!

  • Hi Mike,

You did it again! Such an inspiring song. Brings hope and comfort. I'm in for the next hundred!

    Keep it up,

    Ronald

  • Hi Mike, we have been introduced to your site by a mutual friend, and just had to tell you how much the family love your songs. We did actually see you play live at the Alma a few times when we lived up your way. We may be returning shortly, so will make a point of seeking you out. Meanwhile, thanks for sharing your inspiring music with us.

  • That's really kind that you should write, hope you will let me know when your down this way so we can meet up. M:)

  • Enjoyed this. That's a nice guitar, what do you string it with? Also, I think another lesson would be well received. You'd be suprisedhow many people would be interested, you have some nice techniques.

  • Hi Yes its a sweet song.. I use Elixir custom light .011-.052, they just seem to mellow with time so i try not to change them to often. As for another guitar lesson, the last one just fell apart, I think the acoustic fraternity should be spared a second.. thanks for the kind comments M:)
