  • trying to play this now - hell of hard

  • Let me just say, YOU ARE AMAZING. I can only hope to be this good one day!

  • besides classical music actually talented musician's art isn't on the radio it makes me sad..

  • Пианист играет прилично, но не постиг еще достаточно глубоко гений великого Бетховена!

  • I came here for Beethoven AND Lady gaga =)) and this is extremely beautiful.

  • Like if you came here and you like Beethoven AND Lady Gaga!

  • @stellahella people like you ruin music.

  • Wu Tang Clan - Impossible

  • Stop hating on GaGa, she is one of the most artistic people in the world

  • @khristianv1 Haahahaha!! Don't make me laugh!!!!

  • @tjtheplay Please get your head out of your ass. There are few people with her talents. and before you start raging about 'real music', I don't like all of Lady Gaga's music but she is talented. I also enjoy Beethoven if you would start complaining about that.

  • @Keviths How about YOU get YOUR head out of your ass.

Now these days, everyone can sing and dance. The only difference between kids at any school and Lady Gaga was that she probably knew people and had them help her before famous dumbass.

However, I will give you this; she is the most talented out of all mainstream musicians.

  • @tjtheplay Can YOU sing and dance? like Lady Gaga can? I bet you can't for shit. Sure there are lots of talented people, there are people with more talent than others. And what's wrong with connections? it means she's a likeable person AND talented. But yes compared to most mainstream she is good.

  • @Keviths "Can YOU sing and dance? like Lady Gaga can? I bet you can't for shit"

    You're right, I can't because I DON'T sing or dance.

"And what's wrong with connections? it means she's a likeable person AND talented"

No, that just means that she happens to know people. Nothing more, nothing less.

Like I said, there's plenty of talented and likable people. The only difference is that Lady Gaga had connections.

  • @tjtheplay Well she works hard to get noticed then? Took her a while to get mainstream, correct me if I'm wrong. And I don't think people judge the talent on whether they like it or not, people just can't see true talent. I'm not defending Lady Gaga saying I love her music/style, cause a lot I don't, I just see her talent.

  • @Keviths cont...

There's plenty of people who can sing and dance better than Lady Gaga but often times they're deprived of the opportunity to get noticed.

Unfortunately, today most people judge talent on whether you like their style or not.

  • I'm here from The Lost World: Jurassic Park... not Gaga xD

  • to those slamming lady gaga here, i'm a little monster and I appreciate classical music as much as I love pop music. They're different in their own ways, and I guess it's just great that Gaga introduced so many other monsters to classical music (she herself was trained in classical music)

So stop comparing/hating and be more open minded.

  • its funny how gaga pisses off fans of other genres because she references their fav artist

  • This masterpiece have more artistical interest than Flopga's carrier

  • Like if you came here for beethoven and have never even heard "Marry the night" -_-

  • @Ace1Eclipse Yes, yes!!! :) I wouldn't even know what it was if I hadn't read the comments.

  • @Ace1Eclipse finally, people who actually listen to music. thankyou haha

  • @Ace1Eclipse what's wrong with liking both though? O_o

  • @dancehan2 thedii whats wrong? the difference between the two is that If you came here for beethoven you came for REAL MUSICAL TALLENT, while if you came from lady gaga, your probably some hipster who wants to pretend their better than every other hipster, by liking (or pretending) to like calssical

  • @Ace1Eclipse you're being pretty rude tbqh! Little do you know that i am a dancer i have taken Ballet for 13 years and you are here telling me that i don't like Classical music??!!AND you cannot judge me because i like Gaga or label me as a 'hipster' just because i am a teenager. How dare you try and tell me who the hell i am.No,i am not better than anybody but at least I'm not like some other teenagers here on youtube for crap people like Pitbull or something.I can love any type of music i want

  • @dancehan2 I was speaking metaphoricly, I did NOT mean YOU, I also said PROBABLY, I know alot of teenagers arnt hipsters but MOST of them are.

just look outside right now, this world is going to hell and the things us "old timers" know, love, and miss (classical, fine art, hell even rock and roll) are DIEING.

Im just mad that I cant do a thing about it.

  • @Ace1Eclipse prob. NOT a good idea to pick a fight with a member of the Most Entitled but Dissappointed Generation in human history - raised like kings and queens to rule a world of ease and plenty, only to receive this gutted husk of economic decay and institutional anemia as a legacy

  • @dancehan2 prob. dance has given you the sensitivity to appreciate it. Many people (teenagers AND ADULTS) just haven't developed the ear for it. If you don't grow up listening to it or dancing to it, you're just not "going to get it". Nothing to do with age.

  • & Let's rival the above comment, not by acting immature, but instead...

Give mah a thumbs up if Lady Gaga is a perverted, uninspired weirdo who you've either never heard of or couldn't care less about :D (Okay, I couldn't help myself.)

    *woot woot*

  • i like the fact that gaga incorporates this music in her videos...when will someone else ?

  • @TheCoolCristobal no we mean to offense her.... don't be ashamed of that

  • Gosh, it was awesome! ;) But it would be better, if you won’t shake your head and shoulders so much.

  • @LaFoundre ....Did you just ask him to not immerse himself in this beautiful song?

  • @seanconneryyayay Er actually he/she was right, a good pianist can't do this it's not good 4 the music.

  • Comment removed

  • i came here cuz im a Pianist

  • i came because of a old korean movie called "The Classic" which had this song in it, but i didnt know which one this was until now

  • AMAZING!

Just a suggestion: in Italian you say "allegro" instead of "alegro" as you did.

    Anyway, you're really talented guy!

  • This was absolutely amazing!!! I've only been playing piano for 3 years, but my dream is to be able to play this. Thanks so much for inspiring me!

  • i like his trills :D so clean

  • I'm not a huge fan of Gaga's music but I think it's good her fans were able to discover this piece through her video. Hopefully it'll encourage them to explore other composers... maybe her fans could take a week off from dance and give Stravinsky a chance?

People are entitled to have different tastes in music and personally I love dance music but classical speaks to me/reaches the depths of my soul in a totally different (and imo far better way) than dance music ever could.

  • Who is lady gaga?

  • @Elitetrumpet xDDD what a fail you are, where do you live????

  • this is my favorite Beethoven sonata :)

  • Gaga will be gone in a few years and very few will listen to her stuff. This, however, is timeless.

  • Lady Gaga is trash compared to this. Heck, her stuff shouldn't even be considered music

  • Good job.Congratulations

  • My Brother memorized this and played it. Nice

  • Kudos to GaGa for introducing me to this!! This is a great piece! Really gives me the chills! I love turning this on and re-enacting the scene from Marry The Night lol

  • I saw LG play this from memory when she was around 12 years old

  • Lady Gaga should NOT be the reason why this piece is famous. It's really sad that that's the way they'll get people to appreciate classical music. -_-

  • @hayazi95 If it makes this amazing music more popular then I don't care if people have to arrive at it from Lady Gaga, surely all that matters is that as many people as possible hear it.

  • Marry the what? What on earth people are talking about!!!

  • Really Loved your interpretation mate, it was awesome...don't mean to sound rude you were playing with some arrogants but I do guess Beethoven played it like that to. Also if I could play like you do, I would do that too LOL. Anyway Bloody LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Esto queda maravillosamente bien en Marry the night! :]

  • Yes, I hadn't listened to this piece a lot before I saw "Marry The Night", but that doesn't mean I'm uncultured and have no appreciation for classical music. That doesn't even makes sense. I've grown up around Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Chopin, etc. So, conservative people, shut the fuck up about Lady Gaga. You should appreciate the fact she's exposing younger audiences to "real" music.

  • looks like the syncing is a little off. kind of annoying to see his hands hitting the keys after the notes have already sounded. good performance, though.

  • Fantastic! You make it look effortless...

  • Can anyone advise me on counting the 32nd notes in the very beginning?

  • I think he plays 2:12 - 2:27 a little soft, but other than that, this is really good.

  • really good interpretation.

  • This was a great interpretation, especially the Grave. The only I didn't like was the speed of the Allegro. Just a bit too slow.

  • Excellent phrasing, dynamics and articulations. You really made this piece your own.

  • i bet this bitches hear for first time classical music whith tath fucking song of lady gaga

  • @gore666death be grateful that thanks to Gaga some people are here now listening this beatiful sonata!

  • wait a second..... taths a video of an interpretation of a masterpiece of Beethoven, rigth? why this bunch of fags are talking about lady gaga??? damn dude!!! i dont want to live on this planet anymore -.-

  • lol after listening to this, scenes from "Marry the Night" flashes through my head? :D

  • Unfortunate how his dramatic actions distract us from his music.

  • quasihemidemisemiquaver :D

  • Personally, not having lived during the Romantic era, I could not personally comment on the "mainstreaminess" of musicians of the period. Nor could I do the same for the Classical or Baroque periods.

  • First, LVB was anything BUT mainstream. He celebrated the individuality of man in a time when the divine right of kings was still all the rage. Now, for this sonata. This pianist is really good. This piece invites a bit of showmanship and I only detected one really missed note. I played this and the 2nd movement for quite some time (memorization) but never really had the wherewithal to approach the third movement.

  • his hands are out of synch

  • this guys hamming it up a bit

  • This song fit the mood Gaga was trying to portray in Marry The Night, such a beautiful piece !

  • @TheCoolCristobal ohh im sure you know what i meant. dont really care if it offended you.

  • If the sound and picture are match will be perfect :)

  • dont you dare taint the name of Beethoven with your mainstream gaga

  • @lukethegreat101 Beethoven is the most mainstream musician in history, dude.

  • Oh my god u play it so flawless!!! so perfect :D

  • Im here because Gaga Is amazing and she used this in Marry The Night.

  • like if you came here before you saw lady gaga marry the night

People need to realize that without classical music, there would be nothing.

  • i would very much like to put a ciggarette out on that carpet of yours, spill a drink on it, and show you how to put emotion in your fingers and not in your posh lil faggoty condo

  • I can't believe there are all these unreasonably critical comments here! These people must be dying with jealousy! You are amazing! I've never seen anyone play this song so well! Let's see them do it, if they can play like that! Being a baby musician myself, I know exactly what I'm talking about. The feeling you put into it is really amazing too! Congradulations!

  • i am so speechless that it became hard to comment... God bless you

  • like if you came here after you say lady gaga marry the night (:

  • i wish i could play the piano like that

  • Kempff does this much better.. Shame.

  • @TheMerciless13

This is a compliment, is it?

  • learning this atm ..

  • I learned all 3 movements but I don't sound as amazing as you!!! You are very good, everyone who posted mean comments are just jealous that they don't have great talent like you! good job! ;)

  • very good and some parts show brilliance

  • So many haters here! I thought this was amazing!

  • One of the best that I ever heard ! Congrats to you man !

  • :p. It feels to me like he doesn't quite remember the notes, or something along those lines, and it's causing him to forget any interpretation of the music in favor of playing what's on the staff. Needless to say, I've heard more polished performances from some of the kids at my high school.

  • amaizing!

  • We can all agree this is played rather dry, metronomic and straight, and a tad slow in my opinion. Competent enough I suppose but I would have expected better from someone this level

  • i heard a CLINKER!!!!!

  • Barely any emotion or dynamics. Some notes felt a little choppy. Posture is horrendous. Sure this would get a passing grade, but barely.

  • @dragon32210 let's see you do better.

  • How can you dislike Beethoven's Piano Sonata? This is a great work of music!

  • Well you got all the emotion you want with this guy!

  • Felicitation pour votre succés de performance! Bravo, good job!

  • i suggest you have a look at the interpretation of askenazy and freddy kempf -might help you to understand beethoven a little better-just playing the notes properly is not yet music-where is your emotion? but anyway well done-keep on practicing and {my suggestion} get a little bit of dirt and experience into your life-fall in love and get hurt-thats what music is about- EMOTION

  • His posture is pathetic, I'm simply surprised that someone of his level still has those bad habits that beginners have.

  • YOU are AWESOME!!!!!!!!

  • nice grand piano though..

  • (continued) There's a lot of parts where you're randomly connecting notes, like 3:40. Yes, the notes are meant to be more noticeable, but not held. They're written staccato, so they're short, but more noticeable than the other three eighth notes in each group of four.

As far as the "Slower" Grave tempo. I don't see what's wrong with it. It's Grave! I play it about this tempo, too. There's nothing wrong with that. The rubato may be a bit overdone, but that's something else.

  • What I don't like is the abusive use of the pedal. A touch of pedal is fine, and I use it a bit in this piece (mainly the Grave sections, not so much the Allegro). This is from the Classical Period, and when doing things like using so much pedal and overdoing the rubato, it makes it sound more like a Romantic piece, which this most certainly is not. The sustain pedal was used so sparingly back in those days, so using it in almost every bar is beyond abusive use.

  • just play the damn piece

  • WTF is het Michiel opeens random ><

    goed gedaan!

  • awfully dressed up for a youtube video eh?

  • i could really care less if this guy screwed up once or twice, and actually had some better dynamics :P unfortunately that wasn't the case

  • I spent 28 seconds

  • Is it only me or does the tempo from start to end seem to be bouncing fast and slow and fast?

  • @fmagistel Yes, and it's quite intentional. I'm not even close to an expert, but the musical term used, I believe, is 'rubato', or flexible tempo.

  • dude, sweet job. careful your left hand doesn't fall behind from 2:20 to 2:25 ish.

  • is that the right tempo?

  • such an unfitting title for a good piece. This sonata is not pathetic whatsoever.

  • @Texemosis its supposed 2 b played wif so much emotions tat it makes people feel "pathetique" :)

  • @Strawberry1701 pathetique doesnt mean "pathetic" .. you may think it does because they look similar but it doesnt lol ..

  • @Texemosis it's actually more fitting than you may think. Pathetique with the accent on the first e actually means emotional or with feeling.

  • I happen to like this. I think I have heard better, but this guy does a pretty good job!

  • really, i dont like it. It lacks of musicality.

I am currently studing this piece, and it is very delicate to manage properly the expression

  • sorry dear, you did,nt understand the emotions of ludwig.

  • @ThePeeterd Sorry dear, you didn't know how to use the apostrophe.

  • hay thank's kid that was off the hook ty ty

    your friend roundman 101

  • Very impressive, and from memory!

  • Your expressions are kinda odd, but I know they are good cause i can hear your emotions without seeing you play :-)

  • paino masters have such beautiful hands!

  • Good job for playing it well. I'll admit, it took me a year to finish through all this and it still doesn't sound perfect. However...I have two things to say.

    1. What's up with your posture? You seem more obsessed with your shoes than how you're playing it.

    2. Where's the depth of emotion. Beethoven played with anger, passion, love...this sounded like you were just playing it to get the views. Or maybe it's just me because I play with the stress of my everyday life into it...I don't know.

  • As I watched this, it just "lightninged" outside at 2:19! That is the third time this week something has happened with the weather while I've been listening to a music on youtube. Weird!

  • i have a friend who can play the first movement very well! and she is only 12!

  • Well done Michael. I like this interpretation and performance. That goes for your performance of all three movements... I've watched them all.

  • People these days don't seem to understand that emotion in a piece has nothing to do with how it looks. I don't care how pained your facial expressions are or how much you rock back and forth, I want to hear emotion when I put the computer on screensaver.

  • @easylazy AGREED!

  • @easylazy

Ok, I watched this vid like 12928347 times now, and I keep asking myself if you´re meaning to say that you think that Michiel doesn´t play with emotion or does?

Please don't mind the fucked up english :P I'm just wondering

anyway, I think he played it fantastic, but I'm new to classical piano.

  • @easylazy I completely agree. The way he tenses up his shoulders seems painful.

  • @easylazy Close your eyes.

  • @easylazy Exactly!! :D Well said.

  • why does everyone play Beethoven so roughly? its kind of mocking him. he played with real anger and emotion and feeling he was not just smashing the keys. sorry man.

  • when i watch you play, i want to punch you in the face. and your facial expressions make me want to punch you in the balls. sweet hair btw. and i think the speed is fine :)

  • everyone seems to think his speed is fine....but its actually a bit slow, its worth critiquing.

  • video-audio lag?

  • i bet none of the haters can actually play first measure

  • @doomless198 ^^

  • lolwhy are you jumping

  • this is very good, technically secure, it doesn't sound too slow at all, shows that a piece like this can sound great at a more modest tempo. as you get to know the piece over the years you'll find new ways to express etc, thats what I love about music, a piece is never truly finished :)

  • i like the more relaxed pace

  • Awsome

  • I think Rowan Atkinson the piano player plays it better.

  • @jim30775

oh yeh and can you even play better than Rowan Atkinson?

  • you seems looks like not play piano :D

  • @MargaretthaJole you seems like you cant speek english!

  • perfect pace man! I personaly prefer pieces played more calmly than rushed, that way the "feeling" comes out better

  • Interesting. Oh, and I meant the third movement never fails to blow me away. Which do you think is harder, the first movement of the pathetique, or the third movement? The allegro section of the first movement kills me, too much hand moving lol. Ever play through Mozarts Rondo Alla Turca? I'd say its about a step below the third movement of this,

  • Comment removed

  • @werewolf50505050 the first movement is technically much more difficult than the third. In my opinion, the first movement is much more appealing than any of the other in this wonderful C minor sonata (-:

  • Dude,..Terrible timing with the music and the hands...are you actually playing? Good Job anyway.

  • I need opinions, which do you guys think is harder (Please only respond if you actually PLAY an instrument, don't judge by the way it sounds. Preferably pianists), the Moonlight Sonata (all three movements), or the Pathetique Sonata? I personally have tried both, and even though the third movement of the moonlight sonata never seems to blow me away, I'd have to go with the Pathetique because of how intense the third and first movements are.

  • @werewolf50505050 For me, Pathetique was more difficult to learn. It took me a while to be able to play with clarity while maintaining the intensity that the first and third movements are meant to be played with. The speed in this video is what I used to practice at when I was learning the piece.

As for my comments on the video, tempo during second theme could be faster but not a big deal if it doesn't affect his playing. Good job!

  • @werewolf50505050 The first movement of the pathetique is probably the easier one of this between this and the last movement of the Moonlight(if not by much). However, if you gauge the whole sonatas, I'd say that Moonlight is easier just because the first two movements are so easy, while the Pathetique has more difficulty altogether.

If you asked me which I like more, I like the moonlight more, but the Pathetique is more fun imo.

  • Comment removed

  • very good performance! may be you need play more faster the second theme. presto?

  • This is great =] The part around 2:20 is what inspired part of the Starship Troopers cartoon (Roughnecks) theme song, I just noticed.

  • i cryed most beautifal music r.i.p behtoven i loved him

    ;(

  • @goldensparrowgirl cried*, beautiful* Beethoven*

What are you implying? Maybe you're using the incorrect tense. You should say "I love him" or "I love his work." To say "I loved him" implies that you knew him while he was still alive.

  • Great piece played well. I think the gaps are simply the way the video is cut together. Obviously cut from several angles for effect and anyone with eyes could see that there is a separate microphone for the sound input. Just not quite perfect on the mix, but played with grace and expression. Thanks!

  • He's not actually playing folks! Watch the hands and listen! You can't tell me that the video is just off. BOLOGNA!
