It is so simple to understand! It is about the plotlessness present in the lives of the bourgeoisie, the rich. It also shows how some things are simply a facade and not really real. I suggest buying the dvd and looking at the documentarty.
this is the best movie ive ever seen in my life and my favorite, too. along with "the exterminating angel", this is one of bunuel's satires on moral and social conventions
it would be awesome to meet other people who love this movie...i'm not sure how many there are. american teenagers don't usually go for this kind of thing.
8 1/2 is a great film and Fellini was far too intelligent to use phrases like "fucking sorry" to argue his point. However, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie is a film with many layers, in the class of it's own. It takes a true connoisseur and many viewings to fully appreciate it. To some it is just too complex. A comment referring to The Discreet Charm as mediocre cannot be taken seriously.
ejeje...im so fucking sorry but that title goes to fellini`s 8 1/2...the most perfect definition of art and cinema ever! (not to mention that it is the most original movie ever) even the acting is better than this mediocre french actors...peace!

well...dont get me wrong...this is a very good film....whatever...the mediocre comment goes to the actors..thay seem to fit on a 1940's film....on the other side mastroianni and anouk aimee really did some affecting and nostalgic performances...im sorry for the "fucking" thing, it wasnt necessary...peace!
NP. Anyway, acting in The Discreet Charm was, I believe, purposely theatrical. Like the lieutenant introducing himself to the ladies in a cafe or the soldier who is telling about his dream, or the bishop noticing a rifle after the confession, etc. Bunuel is, after all, the master of surrealism.
thanx for the info...i guess i wasnt aware of that since that type of acting goes in some of his films...but makes sense in this one...yeah...althrough i prefer fellini films...by the way did you saw milky way, i bought that from criterion last week..awesome..peace!

The greatest film of all times. Nothing comes close except, perhaps, The Good the Bad and the Ugly.
