I think it'll be best if you sing at the same note as original. At the moment you can handle lower note easily so try sing higher. In that way you can release more feelings.

I really like your voice , but to learn from a bit of tips, if you working on your phrasing with your breaths, and make sure to take your breath a beat before its time to start the next line :) I know that I have to do that when I play my flute and both require alot of air. And I know you can hit those high notes, just gotta practice it :D ! GReat job ~
