its a fake, the "magnet " is actually steel. the copper wire coil if you look inside is not even attached to anything and the light runs on watch batteries which are not rechargeable. if the batteries do die shaking it wont work dont beleive me then let it stay on until it goes out then try shaking it. take out the bar if its not a magnet its a fake.
I wish you would have shown how long it lasted with one minute of shaking. It really does not give us the proper info we need to make the purchase. I am glad it is bright and I understand you said you went from the bathroom to the closest, but the video is only 5 min 10 secs long and most of that the flash light was not in use any way. Also showing how shock absorbant and water proof it is would be great or any garuntees by the website or flashlight company in case it breaks?
VERY IMPORTANT! I have one of these lights and it has a BIG whopping powerful magnet. Whatever you do, dont put this near any kind of magnetic media such as TiVo's, cassette tapes, computers and their hard disk drives, or video tapes. It can bugger up a monitor too if its left near it for very long. It should also not be stored or placed near credit/debit cards. They work great, but because of the powerful magnet and my computers I opt for the safer crank lights. Just my 2 cents
ReadyPRO is offering an updated version of these for free with an order. The coupon code is 'SB'. You also get an additional 5% off anything in the store.
but you have to make sure you get a good one because many of them will die on you because they contain a the flat little camera batteries, thats why i prefer the generator flash lights. i have had 3 die on me so i stopped buying them.
Imagine the amount of electricity you could generate if you could strap one of these flashlights to every male forearm in the world and give them all free porn! :D
Hookup all these little flashlights into the power grid and I guarantee you'll have an energy surplus. :p
Kev, this is not a hybrid as it only has once energy source, the shaker coil to battery. You also didn't test how waterproof or shockproof it was, how long it lasted on a one minute shake or any other length of charging, illumination range or its brightness in lumins or candle power. More an endorsement than an evaluation really. Also, did you try out any other similar ones to make a comparison. But at least we know what's in your cupboard. Not up to your usual standard, in fact it's rubbish.
@mylarjorgen he got it for around the house when the powers out.. waterproof/shockproof is almost non applicable. he shows how bright it is/range by demonstrating it in the closet and bathroom. he did say how long it lasted as well i believe.
We call those Faraday torches( Micheal faraday Electromagnetic physicist )
To be truthful, I think in any survival situation, anything that doesn't rely on external power but feeds you an important survival neccesity is worth it's weight in gold.
and there are companys that make fake shake lights i bought on at a flea market the magnet turned out to be a chunk of steel and when the 3 hearade batterys died it was useless and the good shake light i got at walmart runs down after a few minutes from a full charge but if it has tiny batterys in it its a fake and will probly go dead when you need it most
These are decent for the fact that they require no batteries and they can be picked up for around a buck. The "piston" you described is a magnet. Thats how it generates power - slipping through the copper creates energy much like a generator. These are made by one manufacturer and "re-branded" by tons of companies. All in all not bad for the price, but no comparison to a traditional flashlight with batteries and bulb.
We got two for the kids and one is so so the other only works when its being shook and then its not very bright , wasnt that brand but they are also 2-3yrs old
becarefull when buying some of these i saw some that looked like that as if they charged buy shakeing but they only ran off battery once the battery was dead it was dead. the shaking part was fake. but the one he showing looks legit
I have one of these it's a different brand, and it works great if you have nothing else,I have had it for several years. I would recomend that everyone have at least one. They are great for children because in an outage they can play with it and just leave it on,and you don't worry about batteries.I give these flashlights 5 stars.
how long do you think the rechargable battery inside may last? or is it a capacitor? thinking long term usage here, so replacement energy storage devices and LED's would prove useful.
I have a similar flashlight that I keep behind the seat in my truck. It's great that I never need to replace batteries and I love it but there is a trade off where, since you have to shake it to make it brighter sometimes it is too dim to do everything I'd like to use it for. I don't know what company it's from. If I buy another I'll try that one that you're using in this video.
If you want a good flashlight get a maglight. Yes they take batteries but they give off a GREAT light and the LED maglights are even better than the regular ones!
I received one of these as a gift a few years back. It put out a very weak light beam and completely stopped working in a few months no matter how much you shook it. The switch wouldn't stay on from the time I opened it out of the box......had to rubber band the switch. There are probably different brands of these lights, and I must have had the worst of the bunch. I'll stick to battery and/or crank lights.
you have to be careful though. Some of the cheaper lights have a small battery that gives it power and the shaking does nothing. I took one apart before
I have had one of those flashlights for about 3 or 4 years now. I took it backpacking when I first got it, but it seemed to need more shaking that I was willing to give. LOL
For the past 2 years I have had it hanging from a spare loadbar in the refer box of my bobtail truck. All of the bouncing over the road shakes it plenty, and it's always charged!
I've had a pair of those of a couple of years, One that same size and one smaller, Kids got them for me for Christmas. I have never been disappointed with mine.
LOL ! This is a chinese FAKE shake light.

They have a very near or short distance focus, or their circumference is short, unlike the hybrid light.

This video could've been better if the 'hybrid' part was explained at all / better.
Also what considerations would be given to a hybrid vs a regular shake flashlight.

I had a LED shake flashlight similar to that one and it suddenly quit working. I guess the quality depends on the brand or manufacturer you choose.

that seems brighter then the crank one you reviewed last. and with no crank to break off it should last for years. i need to get a couple.

That Shake Hybrid light will last over 12 hours on one charge!!! It uses a combo of battery and capacitor - but only one button operation.
