I am really hating this game. It runs *soooo* slowly, even though my specs are well above requirements: Phenom 2x4 3ghz, 8200 gigs ram, and I'm using an ATI Radeon 4650. Suggestions, anyone?
no other game has water that actually bounces off objects that move. all water that bounces off objects in other games are pre-rendered animations like the black ooze in RE5, only made to react to chris and sheva's bodies but not things like the knife. from the looks of this video it seems like it's dynamic water..which is hard to do...and really dumb not to support multi-core
@panzer9191 That's the sort of attitude that destroys a game, let the developers do what they want with the game they created, or else it will end up just like all those EA games I'm hearing of across this video. As soon as fans start thinking that a company should do whatever they want, things start to degrade, but if someone new is introduced to the company and takes charge of everything and puts it into a new direction to meet new fans and expand, the result is the same.
Eastern-european games have been quite the rage in the past years, considering westerners mostly launched shitfests.
Think about it. King's Bounty, Cryostasis, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Codename: Outbreak, Hard to Be a God, Rage of Mages and a few others.
Compare them to The Elder Scrolls: Fallout 3, Demigod, Prototype, Wheelman etc.
I just think that because of less corporate structures, eastern-european studios nowadays get more freedom of speech in terms of design and storytelling.
Mirror's Edge was somewhat strangled by EA. There were many good ideas in there, they just had to fight against a lot of mainstreamisation (if that's a word) coming from EA. As for the others, I've never played them, but it's not unlikely that great titles do escape from time to time. Generally speaking though, I think what I said above is a fairly accurate representation of how the industry works nowadays.
I've never played them because I don't like those sorts of games. I prefer games grounded in reality, not side-scrolling platformers or space odysseys. Buying something you're not interested in to support a cause is all well and good, but there are limits.
It becomes my cause when a game I thought was going to be excellent ends up being published by EA or someone and they end up interfearing with the developer's work.
You can never tell if a game's got soul purely by watching pre-release videos and reading the hype.
In short, big corporate publishers piss me off by attacking a game I was anticipating, I don't attack them out of malice or spite. Don't get me wrong, I play what I want, but I can't stand to see a good idea ruined.
It's the name of the game, really. we can blame it on need for larger market demographics and increased sales. Alot of games get "'dumbed" down in terms of mechanics and other aspects (look at GRAW or Rainbow six vegas series in relation to earlier games in their series to see the simplification in effect). It's a shame but unfortunately those publishers pay the bills so they've got alot of say. Damnation met the same fate with Codemasters.
@Strike86 So games that pretend to be realistic are better? Realism is good, but what's the point of playing a game if it works just like real life? This game is amazing, no joke, but that doesn't mean it should erase all side-scrollers and whatnot off the face of the Earth, those games were equally good, if you can't accept older games because they are unrealistic or outdated, then your are not a hardcore gamer in my eyes, you should be able to enjoy everything of quality.
Braid's art. Mirror's Edge is overrated and not even that fantastic in many aspects. EVE Online? Brilliant, but nothing out of the extraordinary. What about Sins of a Solar Empire?
By sheer proxy of being "brillian" makes Eve Online extraordinary. It's beautiful, and technically impressive, with the most impressive and immersive Economy ever presented in any game, period. To the level there are major colleges and universities that use the game as a teaching device for Business and Economics courses. I agree with you though about Mirror's Edge. Technically the lighting algorithm they used was very impressive, but outside of that, pretty lackluster and certainly overrated.
Such a shame that without a high budget, like the western games industry has, most of these so called creative freedom games, tend to end up bugged and unplayable anyway.
I understand, but most games are usually developed in bigger countries U.S., Japan, etc. No understatement to Europe, but rather unusual to come from Ukraine.
im just sad that the North American release of the game has been kicked back. i believe it is already out in Russia. my hope is that it would be as awesome as STALKER...
Im in Canada and i own the game. So far its alright. Im only about maybe 10 mins through or so. Its a neat game so far...i can't say its the best yet because i haven't seen anything yet.
!! on max? thats nice.. the engine would seem to be alot better optimized than STALKER's X-ray engine then. playing Clear Sky on max, i get slowdowns.. even though my rig is pretty decent also;
4gigs ram,
2.4 ghz dual core
ati 4850
i usually run 1920 by 1200 on a 24" dell 2407 though so that probably taxes it a bit

Perhaps it's me, but I don't see the big deal with these water and glass effects, they're pretty off; the lighting is good tho.

So true.
The western games industry has become so capitalist that it's difficult for any truly original games to make it to the market.
The east has no such problems, however, and this game and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are prime examples of the creative freedom they enjoy.
