  • No hotsauce?!

  • its okay to eat bluegills for supper, its just gods way of punishing them for being so stupid lol!!!

  • Whats your batter made of? looks delicious

  • thanks man

  • My mouth is literally watering. This brings up good memories as a child!!! Thanks to youtube, I am actually wondering if anybody (you or your viewers that like Bluegill) has tried Redear Sunfish? I'm wondering if they would taste the same or even better!?!

  • @MrMaleBee Redears actually taste better due to their diet.

  • Best way that I have see for pan fish is a "sexy girl in La frying sun fish, this is too much work.

  • man I love me some bluegill and them are some big ass filletes

  • The very best way to prepare them is to just remove the head & guts & scale them. You Get Twice As Much

  • @fishermannoah Only if your not too experienced with filleting.

  • @muskymod wat ever way you do it its still kick ass i tryed to fillet a ten inch bluegill it worked hey nice technic and i enjoy watching your videos thanks

  • @fishermannoah

No offence to you, but that seems disgusting.

  • your bluegill must have been huge cause your fillets was massive.

  • My god that made me hungry for gills

  • YUM YUM I BETCHA THAT DID TASTE GOOD CAN'T WAIT TILL SPRING...

  • Makin me hungry. Used to dip them in ketchup. Also like cornbread with them. Great technique. U made it look easy . What size do u normally keep?

  • Making me hungry. I used to dip them in ketchup and also love them with cornbread. Great technique. U made it look easy.

  • tasty looking

  • ah too bad most of the bluegils around my area are too small to get fillets those size so i gotta stick to crappies :)

  • Last video I seen of a guy cooking BG it looked more like frog legs. Yours looked like fillets!

  • lol why would you eat bait

  • @LedSkynHankDoors well because they taste great and actually took some angling skills to capture whereas the catfish that you chase only require dead chunks of meat on a bank pole.

  • @muskymod actully i catch my catfish with bluegil

  • @LedSkynHankDoors You can catch catfish with pretty much anything, thats why they're so shitty, your just wasting good bait on a shitty fish.

  • @cooldude3001 I would have to agree!

  • @LedSkynHankDoors Why Wouldnt you not eat bluegill There so tasty

  • Hey man your my kind of guy!! love the Video's and love the blue gills GO GET"EM

  • I could live on bluegills.

The very best way to prepare them is to just remove the head & guts & scale them.

When you're ready to eat them, you just remove the dorsal fin and lay them open with a butter knife.

    The ribs come right out.

They're moist and have more flavor than filleted bg's.

Here in WI, I spend a lot of time on "certain lakes' with my flyrod in the evening for gills and stay out after dark to cast for walleye.

    MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm, gooooooooooooood!!

  • @DAGUY ...Yep!....I eat them that way sometimes (not a real big fan when it comes to scaling and guting) but I field dress them when I'm only dealing with a dozen fish or so.....the bone in flavor is succulent!

  • I like ur technique... hawt

  • cant u use flour

  • A big shout from Denver, muskymod! Man I swear I can smell the aroma coming outta my computer. BTW I can tell by your accent you're a Chicagoan!

    Keep up the good work.

  • tht looks so good man

  • good lord man . egg wash ??? what those poor little blue gills ever do to you ?

  • my god that looks good!

  • OOHHHH YEEAAAAHHH BAAABAY!!!!!!!

  • 1:33 "I'm going to slowly drop those fillets in there." - I can almost smell that frying as you said that. Good videos. I like your filleting method, as well.

  • Where do you keep blugills to eat a dirty pond?

  • Even sounds good when you bit into it.

  • UL tackle?

  • Never UL equipment....I have no love for reeling alot....control with 7-8 ft med light graphite rods with med large spool reels get things done in deep water.

  • ever try flour first, egg then bread crumbs ?

  • hey im one of the north american spoon chuckers, do you ever use fly fishing poppers? for big bluegills?

  • Yes.....but I employ a technique known as tail gunning.....a small popper with a 6" dropper line with a small jig

  • GOOD JOB MAN.

  • That looks great. I like to use crushed rice krispies after some egg and beer wash and its really good too. Those were some nice looking fillets, great job!!!! My mouth was watering.

  • Nice job Musky Mod. I appreciate the videos.

  • Musky Mod, ur making me want some fish! ima go get some tomorrow!

  • Bluegills are great tasting!!!!! I tell you though, I love to have some perch fillets cooking as well. Fish on fridays have always been on the menu at my house. After watching this video, I may go into the freezer, thaw some fillets out and make it happen. Again, GREAT VIDEO!!!!!

  • Great Videos regarding cleaning and cooking bluegill. My dad and I fish at a place called Walpole Island in Canada (40 minutes from Detroit, MI). I tell you I have not fished any other place that produces better samllmouth, perch and especially bluegill!!!! I have pictures of my dad and I and we caught ridiculously large blugills by the dozens during spawn. We released all the females and kept the males. My poor dad had to fillet all of them. With your Cleaning video, I can now help him!

  • sorry,no love for fishing during spawning. bluegills are super easy to catch and are usually found in large schools

  • GOOOOOOOOOOODAMN that looks good! need some fries n slaw and a few cold ones on the side to! man, you rule!

  • Looks good.

    hey what song is that?

  • Peter Gabriels "diggin' in the dirt"

  • My recipe is, Flour, Then watever you like of these..Regular Mrs.Dash, garlic salt, black pepper, salt, and a lot of cajun seasoning.i also love homade onion rings and hush puppies. for the onion rings i take all the seasoning i use for my fish and add milk untill it is like a pancake batter consistensy and dunk the onions in it. for hush puppies i got to the grocery store and buy a hush puppie mix or basspro's hush puppie mix and finely chop up 3 jalapeno's: 1 1/2 cups of mix.spicy but awesome.

  • I honestaly dont know any body that would pass up a nice mess of bluegill.. Man they are by far better than the best cut of steak. But i dont like steak..but i love fresh bluegill and catfish..

  • great video! i also use egg to coat the fillet with..........I use yellow corn meal & original mrs. dash or chicken blend mrs. dash..........fry in vegetable oil & eat!

  • I catch and release all bass.. but when I go Speck fishing or Gill fishing Its catch and fry for all the smaller ones.. I still release the bigger fish.. I cut there heads of gut them scale them batter and fry em whole! best way to eat them to me! its work but it makes it taste better lol

  • Yes...field dressed bluegill do taste better....lotta work.

  • blue gills are soooo good to eat.. but you have to have like 10-15 of them to make a meal lol.

  • These were some nice Geneva Gills....about 3 fish make a very nice meal.

  • you can catch gills ice fishing

  • I don't want to eat any doggies!

  • that looks perfect and tasty

  • nice

  • mouth watering

  • We eat fried blue gills all the time. Your method is by far the best, cleanest and easiest way to fry them. Plus, you guys used my favorite music. Thank You!

BTW-We did try frying them in a Fry Baby in the garage in the winter so the smell would not be in the house for a week. That worked pretty good!

  • hey muskymod, was that just vegi oil you had in the pan, and have you ever tried one of those rooster tail lures well if you haven't i highly recommend using one during bluegill mating season. all you do is just cast it over a hole and L.M bass will start coming in by the minute

  • Canola oil....it has a higher flash point.

  • man the biggest bluegill i ever caught in cali was about 7 inch most of them dont go over 4

  • yeah thats a bit small....A buddy of mine just moved to Florida....he says the minimum size limit on some lakes is 12 inches....crazy!

  • YEA THEY WERE BIG

  • Yeah....9-9.5 in Lake Geneva gills

  • whats better eating? bluegill or crappie?

  • crappie

  • Bluegill....hands down.

  • well muskymod... its easy to see why you think bluegill are better eating. i don't think any other vid on youtube makes my mouth water like this one. keep posting. i'm fishing lake shelbyville, IL this weekend, hopefully i'll come back with a boatload of both crappie and bluegill

  • hey muskymod i had a question for you. have you ever heard of the banjo minnow? I'm thinking about going down to the bass pro shops and picking up set, but i don't know if its worth the 20 bucks. have you ever used them or know anything about them? it looks like an awesome lure

  • Never tried the banjo....however, I've had great success using 2 1/2 - 4" Fin-S minnows.

  • well for me the banjo minnow sucks i had the very first set in 96 or 97 and the new 006 version i swear i only caught 3 fish with them 1 was a 7 lber but i snaged his ass

  • thanks for the reply, i'm really hearing mixed reviews about the banjo, about half the people i asked swear its the best lure they've ever used, and the other half, like you, say don't waste your money. i think i'll try them out this autumn when trout season starts. 20 bucks isn't too big of deal, and if they're successfull, i'll let you guys know

  • im going for blue gills tommorow at a small pond nearby.. and than imma use the fillet tenique you have.. fry em up

  • Blue Gills the best! Gonna fry some Yellow Lake Perch in abit!
