Gorgeous stuff man! I am green with envy : ) Any advise for persons such as myself that have absolutely no talent creating models? Like a book or something as a starting point?
Thanks man. I first modeled a base mesh in Maya and then took it into Zbrush for finer details. But my workflow is different now. Usually I make a very basic shape in Maya to bring into Zbrush. Then I change the proportions and get the main forms down inside Zbrush. When I'm satisfied with the main forms I take the sculpt into 3D Coat, where I retopologize the sculpt so I can have usable geometry. Then I export that low geometry to UV and use the high to get my normal map.
I start sculpting with symmetry on to get the forms correct and then go back over top of that without symmetry to add some realism in.
I find 3d Coat much faster than Zbrush's retopo tools. It's the fastest i've found. Even faster than Topo Gun or the Nex plug-in for Maya. Maybe I'll do a quick tutorial/ demo on it.
@StarEtaCarinae Thanks. Nah this asset is so old. I really want nothing more to do with it. I can render a full HD shot of the current one for you if you want, however.
cool work dude!! :D...I am into animation and just started recently..but I've already started with 3D MAX and Iam a bit confused now which one is better Maya or 3D MAX with regards to quality and user friendliness ?! thanx in advance
Everyone I've met, even the ones that have used Max in the past have switched to Maya once they learned it. There's more flexibility in Maya and that's not an opinion. I have used both and don't mind using Max for some modeling things. But seeing as Autodesk bought Alias and is slowing phasing out Max and integrating the good features into Maya I don't see a good reason to learn it. That's my opinion on the matter. Hope that helps.
i like your videos , they are really helpfull, i am using maya btw and i always wanted to know how to render a sphere for example with it's own wireframe, in maya.
Appreciate it. :) As for the wireframe what I personally do is save a playblast of the same animation or still with surface shaders on everything that are white. turn on wireframe on shaded and when you do combine those frames with your animation over top in after effects or photoshop with a multiply blend mode the white won't make a difference and the wireframe will be sitting on top of it. I think that's a little confusing so I might just make a video. Thanks for your question. :D
For the base meshes they are all pretty high because I wanted a good starting point before I Zbrushed them.
Eli is 28,000 including clothing, planks, gun etc.
The crocodile's base is 8,500 including enviro, lily pads, etc.
And Sierra, the little girl's count is 6,500 with tree, ground, swing etc.
Having said that, the poly count doesn't mean a model is good. I think we all have seen people crank up a bad character to 6 million and it looks terrible. Also, thanks for the kind words. :D

@RyanTaylor3D
so you are not sculpting with symmetry?
And why are you not using retopologize inside zbrush?

Can you texturerize the crocodile and then render? I need a new FullHD Wallpaper :D

Wow, to me these look like clay models you just 3D tracked the geometry or something :P

Zbrush is just like digital clay. I can understand that, yo.

may annyone tell me how to change between wireframe and normal mode?
tarrizzzzzzzzz 3 years ago
Do you mean inside a program like Maya or Zbrush or when you render out? This is a very general question.
RyanTaylor3D 3 years ago
Well the zbrushed versions of these are close to 12 million each. But as far as the bases go, those other numbers apply.
