  • Excellent Jason--/.Ken [UK]

  • Very well done-sounds great!

  • @jamesXmetal Well, if you're not a troll, than you're as dumb as a bag of bricks.

  • @jamesXmetal It's okay if you don't like jazz, but that doesn't mean two genres can't share an instrument, and it certainly doesn't mean that there is no style. Clearly you are outnumbered in your views about the acceptable uses of the 8 string guitar, so maybe you should consider the idea that you aren't the sole judge of musical invective. Also, no reason to be so hostile.

  • @istlota As far as the 'two hands instead of four' aspect goes, perhaps you ought to check out touchstyle - superb independence of voices (be forewarned, though - the sound is still not the same as regular guitar and bass...guess nothing is replaceable in this world).

Also, atleast for me, it's not that I want to 'avoid paying' a bassist, but I like the independence of a solo instrument (I play classical & touchstyle guitar, & am a fan of the organ, Hammond organ, & piano).

  • Good! Love it!

  • @jamesXmetal

and the award for musically narrow minded goes to, YOU! seriously dude, un-bunch your panties and chill out.

  • @jamesXmetal

    Seriously, get a clue.

I for one listen to just about everything from medieval/early music to metal, and there is nothing — NOTHING — that says an eight-string guitar is purely meant for metal.

The purpose of an eight-string guitar is to give the guitarist an extended range, allowing the player to go higher or lower than they can on a six-string guitar.

How they use that range is up to the player, not some rabid metalhead fanboy.

  • genius!

  • great picker ...wonderful concentration...

  • bravissimo

  • amazing

  • Very very good! Sounds amazing. Great work with bass, solo, melody, everything... Congrats.

  • sounds like you've worked it all out beforehand.

  • Hi. I want to start playing chord melody stuff on a seven string guitar; bass line, chords and melody. I just have one question to get started with this. Which tuning is better, low A or low B?.

I'm an intermediate player, so 7 strings are enough for me I guess.

Thanks in advance. Amazing guitar playing.

  • Hey Jason, Fancy meeting you on YouTube. I have just learned the vocal.

    See you soon.

    Michele

  • Hellz ya! Let that soul come out.

  • This guy's my favorite Toronto Busker... He brightens my morning commute usually one day a week. I need to find out which clubs he plays.

  • dude this is insane, great work. Your hand looks like som mad crab or something haha, spot on.

  • wonderful

  • I wish you'd upgrade your recording equipment.

    you are an amazing player

  • wow, a complete jazz band on a single gitar, amazing! thanks for sharing!

  • OK...so...I am inspired and will be buying an eight string soon...I can't believe how amazing the feeling is to play bass lines lower than an E string while chord melody / solo lines sing above it all..and you are amazing at it!

  • Wow!!

  • gila ko main nie...siok butul...darimana ko belajar main macam pukima nie...

  • I'm a bass player and I was really inspired by this piece and your style. Great work.

  • Fuck shredders - this is how a real guitar player looks like!

  • lol, why not be equally passionate about both the aforementioned styles? and flamenco, gypsy jazz, country guitar, middle easten and oriental approaches, etc..etc...

  • u sure?

  • You realize their are different styles... Most good shredders will use a lot of jazz and blues in their solos, but they won't be pure jazz solos or pure blues solos. It's a different style. Most shredders aren't just "shredders". Look up Chris Broderick and his classical renditions.

  • Wow you need to post some info on that 8 string I want one for two handed tapping.

Love "Softly, As In a Morning Sunrise" one of my favorite tunes. Been a fan of it since I first heard it on Coltrane's "Live At the Vanguard" particularly fond of Tyner's take on that piece :)

  • Just so bluesy! I want more ^^

  • *clicks on Favorite*

  • Bravo!!! I miss your playing in the subway station at Yonge and Eglinton now I've moved back to Nova Scotia

  • Beautiful stuff. I'll gladly listen to more of that. Excellent.

  • He don't need no bassman! Wow!

  • Hey Jason

This is Awesome!!!! I see you at the ttc terminal on Yonge and Eglinton some days. How you can do a walking base and melody at the same time is truly amazing. I like your style on the 8 string and the resonator guitar, but I'm going to miss your playing. My wife and I are moving to NS soon so I'll have to buy a CD.

    Keep on groovin'

  • dude, that;s great playing!

With people like you we won't need bass players anymore :D

  • never did anyway. Can't ever hear them! Haha, I'm just kidding, but an 8-string guitar is amazing. I wonder what it'd be like to have an 8-string guitar and a baritone bass.

  • Great! O.o

  • Jason, that is so nice what you do, never stop doing it!

  • Wow damn it that's it I quiting rock and starting on that jazz :P, I only fear I lack the skills for that. Great to listen to tho :D thanks for puting a smile on my face

  • Lovely - but I really love your reso playing.

Mind you, that thing looks like a complete c**t to play

  • Wow. You are really a wonderful musician. Your timing and the notes you don't play say it all. As a former professional guitarist, I know that I am listening to some fine sh*t when I smile and giggle with happiness and surprise when I hear unique lines and phrasing. Does that make sense? Now off to hear more of your stuff. Do you have cd out?

  • Man, that is truly amazing. You dont even need a bassist.

  • i think i have watched this video 100x in two days

  • It wasn't until I saw your video for the first time that I appreciated spending the extra bucks for a decent woofer on my computer speaker system. It's sitting on the floor and I can feel you bass notes in my bones! Very nice. I love the song "Softly..." and that's what I was searching for on YouTube when I found you. Great work. I love those vintage songs from the early 20th century. Hope you have more coming along.

  • too much ! awesome :)

    Thanks for this

  • If I close your eyes, I could swear there is an electric bass in the background. Amazing, great job!

  • that is absolutely amazing! great job!
