This song can ring true in so many ways for so many. Life can chang eos much and we lose track of what's important due to being pushed to live fast and then burn out with little to no joy in life.
What litle joys we can manage to get are so few and far between, they should be cherished because they never last long. It's like with childhood, we spend so much of it wanting to be adults, then when we become adults we just want to be kids again because it was more fun.
Man this pulls at your heartstrings. This is what movies and music should always do. Make you reflect, feel grateful, be happy for where you came from, and love life. "There is no such beauty as where you belong." - Stephen Paulus
I have spent my entire life in a little bitty town. Today I watched cars for the first time with my friends 6 year old son and listening to the lyrics I realized that he doesn't even know the town I knew as a child. And then I thought of all the stories my mother has told me about our town and how wonderful it has been in the 70's and 80's. But no matter what, this place will always have a special place in my heart.
@midna3000 I have the same situation, but the friends I grew up with since kindergarten outcasted me from the original group. I was an outcast in my old K-8 school , all because i'm not like them. I learned one piece of advice from my grandmother before she passed away "enjoy life as we know it, and always forget the mistakes you made in the past". When 9th grade came along, I was somebody again cause a few of my old friends knew that I was alone for so long
Cars is a wonderful movie because it teaches children that "life is a highway" and it's hard to stop et decide that, at THIS particular point, we're happy and we don't want things to change. It's difficult not to be a log drifting with the flow.
I don't know if I make any sense (plus i'm french xD)... But that's how I see this movie :)
I'd never given the song much thought until I was just given the version to an a cappella version by my chorus teacher. I have to say - this is so much better. =]
I like this song in the way how I can relate to it. In gradeschool , I had 2 of the best friends ever. and we were always like "No matter what, we'll be friends. Forever and ever" But as time went on, one friend split away and made new friends and I havent talked to her in almost 4 years. The second friend staied my best friend for another 2 years, but now shes spliting away too and made new friends. So i feel in the part how I'm alone and im the only one left of "our town".
Really Randy Ewman, even if he's not singing

Every time I hear this song, I want to cry. Even if it talks about a town... It can be really personal.
It just reminds me of life, and some things that happen.

I look at my little town since WalMart came here. This song is perfect picture of a most unwanted transition.

@MegatronPrime321 Yeah, I talk to one of them daily. The other I only see once in a while, our younger siblings go to the same school.
