It may be an epilogue for all your companions, you know, play as one until their story is over(death or closure depend on who it is) or an MMO.

But ME3 is the end for the part of series dealing with Shepard.

They are presumably allowing you to select which playthrough you want to continue; for example, if you played through as John Shepard first and ...um... Mary Shepard second, you can select either career to 'continue' with, and that career's choices will be seen in-game. So if you did play through 4 times and made different choices each time, chances are you can individually continue each of those 4 playthroughs to continue with in Mass Effect 2.

ME1 is about 25 hours long, from what I hear ME2 is 3-4 times bigger. Between people playing ME thru multi playthroughs with different charecters and then ME2 with many times to see everything, People are goign to be playing Mass Effect well into spring.

At the Start menu of ME2, you go to New Game and then select to Import an ME1 character. You get to choose from a list of different end game saves and then it gives a brief overview of that end game save.

Not exactly a first, not even a bioware first. Baldur's gate actions carried over. Some of the old DOS D&D games had it as well. The entire .hack game line as well. The way bioware has been selling it though sounds like it's not just romantic and karma options but like huge things, like if you let the alliance take the body of the dead solider to test for geth weaponry, there would be certain items avaliable. Leaders of worlds are different etc.

No you do not, its just if you have a finished save file from Mass Effect 1, you can import that save file to keep the decisions you made in the first game. If not then certain decisions will be made for you.

No, you don't need Mass Effect 1, but I would HIGHLY reccomend getting it quickly and doing at least one 'bare-bones' (mostly just main story) playthrough as things carry over. I'd do all sidequests as well (which should take 1-2 evenings if you know what you're doing) since they all carry over in one way or another!

The game will still work, if you don't have a savegame on the pc, otherwise you can use it to continue. My advice is either try to get a copy of it, or download a savegame for the pc, i bet there will be all kinds of starting characters to go with.

Then you get to start fresh in Mass Effect 2, just without having any decisions made in the past. Although, my advice is go buy Mass Effect right now, and you'll complete it just as Mass Effect 2 gets here; well worth it.

The one thing i hated about the first one was how being a "neutral" kind of guy didn't pay off, you needed to be 100% Paragon or 100% renegade to rip the game's benefits, including some achievments... that really sucks, i can't just say what i want to say in the game, i have to follow a single path... kind of destroys the point

No, there are also 'Parigade' and 'Renegon' paths, which will, for example, max out Paragon but 1/2 fill Renegade, so you're pretty good on that front. I have one Shepard so pro-human he'll do anything for a human, but will kill any alien given the chance. Near the end and I'm near max in Renegade, but 1/3-1/2 filled Paragon.

Liara - works for the Shadow Broker now, and I heard has a role that will ensure her being in ME3 as well. Not squad in ME2.

Wrex - If dead, he's dead. If alive, he'll be leading Krogan on their homeworld, and you do meet him.

Tali and Garrus - BOTH RECRUITABLE. Garrus on a station called Omega, and Tali on the Quarian flotilla.
