  • holy crap man, going for a French Roast there man!

  • @ufo5440 I like it dark ant tasty!!!

  • you have a kermit the frog voice!... lol... Plus... dude, your burning your coffee! no wonder dunkin' doughnuts is so popular, the locals love burnt coffee... try stopping the popper and stirring it for about a minute, that should help reduce that massive amount of acidity you inevitably have.

I agree with the comment to do it outside too... if there's any wind it'll take the chaff away and make the post roast cleanup quicker.

Good video though! Enjoy the french roast!

  • Awesome, thanks so much!! I just bought three pounds of green coffee beans and a new, not-very-expensive popper.

I can't wait to have a REALLY GOOD cup a' coffee and espresso!

  • you are welcome!

  • I just started to roast coffee at home in a $16 Chefmate popcorn popper from Target. Works fantastic...I get a nice dark brown roast in 5.5 minutes. I can only roast about 1/2 cut at a time which yields about 1 cup of roasted beans. Can't understand these people who buy the expensive coffee roasters when the $16 (new) popcorn popper works so well. I enjoyed your video. I've lived about 26 years in Germany!

  • Correction to my old post:

I had said that I roast for 5.5 minutes. That roasting time completely depends on the outside temperature and humidity. Now a days I wait for the second crack and look at the color of the roast -- usually stop shortly after most of the beans are cracking during the second pop.

  • Also, poppers will vary depending on temperature... you will have to experiment. There are some useful color charts online to get the roast right.

  • Outside would be best!

  • Definitely! I always roast outside and don't use the lid...just let the chaff fly into the air. I also stir the beans while roasting every 1.5 minutes. This helps the chaff release from the beans through the friction.

  • man you roasted the hell out of those beans!

  • I like it dark!!!

  • I like it dark!!!

  • This popper is extremely quick with the roasting so on the average there is less smoke (I live in the UAE, so the device runs on 220). Also, I use the stove fan to suck up the excess. I also close the kitchen doors except the one to the outside.

  • How do you do it in the house without setting of the fire alarms? I got to do mine outside.

  • cool, thanks for posting!
