@OnTopSniping I think there wouldn't be a huge difference but I think it's best to do it so you can stay calm and know that everything is alright (just like pointing to your door and saying "door locked!" ahah. These types of things are popular in Japan. When you practice an earthquake drill you are taught to say loudly 地震だ!火を消して! which means "Earthquake! Turn off the fire/gas!" &that will help you calm down.so I think it's similar to what the train staff does. for safety I guess
@SunriseHealthFoods well she can but I guess it's also so she can alert others and my opinion is when I point at something (of course not people) and say "blah blah ok" or something, I can easily remember and concentrate and know things are perfect. If I were to just look then I would feel.... Insecure? aha I need to learn more about the signals but yeah... that's their way of doing stuff lolz I hope that sort of helps you ^^;
of course ladies can drive trains,why not ? there are also many lady airline pilots,ive flown with a lady pilot,nobody was surpised on the flight,and she landed the aircraft smoother than many men would have done,the gentle touch !!
@Shiqna1 Trains and planes do not work like a car. They are designed in a certain way because how things work. More engine power is FORWARD in an airplane. Pull up is pulling backwards because when you gain altitude you're actually leaning back. It's also how the mechanics in traditional planes work. They are wired like that because it's simple and reliable. But more engine power in a train and in a plane should be the same (forward) since it's the most logical.
@Shiqna1 you never know who might be watching, and the disciplined practice keeps you on form when the real-world scenario comes. repetitive training (which there is a lot of in the military) is done so that it becomes a subconscious skill and stays there, meaning you can focus on the task at hand without getting distracted by the basics. "amateurs train until they can get it right, professionals train until they can never get it wrong".

@wdowa94 Did you really watch the whole video? Are you also aware that you can not do 300 in a narrow curve?
Not listening to anything else while driving is actually good. Research has shown that even listening to random radio chatter or music lyrics pulls attention away from what's more important. Repetative work is easily interfered with simple stuff such as a radio. Poland doesn't exactly excell in railway safety either. You use old metal scrap as railway cars and lack any form av ATC.
It's actually the same on the normal old trains too! The drivers conduct this dialog, complete with pointing at every important item, even though there is no-one watching most of the time.
@GreenAsJade Agreed. When I was in Japan I was fortunate enough to witness a driver having his "driving test". I noticed he was constantly not only checking controls and dials, but pointing, and sayign out loud. In the british military we're trained to do the same thing for things like checking a weapon, even if no one's directly watching. not only does it show discipline, but it also instils confidence and trust from those around you, as it shows you know what you're doing.
@GreenAsJade Yes, I envy them, really. The disicipline and safety culture seems great. My employeer doesn't seem to give a shit so neither do I, I keep my safety culture to myself since no one selse gives a shit. The crap delievered from Bombardier is loaded with errors.
The "Notch" seems odd to me. 0 is full forward and highest value is full back. What's up with that? All other trains I've seen is not like that. Forward is more power and backwards is no power or even regenerative braking.
Need to add really that when I was a boy went with my father shunting at the "T" junction, and took ride in front of the"Charfield Titch" autocar to Gloucester, GWR of course. I took this train from Tokyo to Osaka and it is unbelievable., JP railways- spotlessly clean, fast,courteous, split second timing,organized it's like riding a 777. We invented it and now we are a third world outfit , but let's not get too dis heartened we are getting some new carriages. lol with sadness.
As a boy went to work with my father during school hols, went shunting at Horton Road triangle and had ride in autocar from Charfield to Gloucester GWR of course. A few years ago took this Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka, and it was out of this world. As usual we invent it and then become the poor relations. Japan Rail is the leader,efficient, reliable, polite, spotlessly clean, it was more like flying in a 777. ,cannot fault it. I suppose we should not grumble..we are getting some more coaches!

りりしい女性運転士ですね^^;
素人質問ですいません^^;
nebosuke6969 6 months ago

No radio- so quiet, for driver really boring. Japan is weird. Speed limit is 100, so driver is going 90, or 95. Weird

No, she confirms the line speed, speed restriction and signals out loud. This is routine in Japanese railway to ensure that mistakes won't be made.
