Yes Cheryl is from Kennett, Missouri, which is in the bootheel area. I lived about 40 mins from Kennett. She purchased a swimming pool area for her hometown to give the residents of kennett missouri something to do recreational wise, without having to resort to less positive things.

Why is Ellen suggesting that she should be dating? I got the impression that Ellen considered it wrong for Sheryl to be a single mother. Let Sheryl do her own thing. If she's happy with non serious relationships then so be it.

I think because Sheryl indicated she was a 'single mom' and it didn't seem like she was particularly pleased about it. I read it as a demonstration of concern on Ellen's part, not a judgement about having 'non-serious' relationships.

She's worth millions and this is all she is giving?! I hate it when celebrities do that, and sound so grand because they are donating anything. And then to challenge "regular" people to match that, when we have to work hard just to make ends meet!

She is only a single mom because she chose to be, which is great!, don't get me wrong, her adopoting was great! However, she cannot be compared to the single moms who are so not by choice. True, 5 grand is better than nothing, but how much does she spend on herself, and her mansion, and her trips and expensive clothes, etc?! When you think of what she could have given to this charity, 5 grand is not much!! Do you have 5 grand to match her with, because I sure don't!!

Well i'm pretty damn sure that its not the only charity she has given to and she has the right to spend the money that she earnt on whatever the hell she likes lol but i think its great that she gave some money and again i dont have 5 grand to give to charity so i really think that she is doing her bit, many many celebrities go to ellen with nothing so i think shes doing very well! =)

You're right! Because I've never had $5000 TO give! Listen to what I said. She expects us to match her, and it takes me 7 months working full-time to make 5 grand!! If I had it I would gladly give it! And to KassSims, sure she can spend her money on what she wants, but don't tell me she works hard for it! She sings! That't it! Try a real job, try being a single mom without nannies at your disposal, trying keeping a house without helpers, and than you can sound great about giving 5 grand.

Jesus, do you people not get it! I have no problem with her personally,she gets to be a singer and make millions, fine! All I said is for ANY celebrity to sound so pleased with themselves for giving, what in their bank accounts is actually little, to a charity and expect us "common people" to match it is unrealistic. I think EVERY celebrity, (sports pros, singers, actors etc. ) should be required to give A LOT because they CAN!!

Being a celebrity is hard work. Keeping up an image, writing songs, acting. It's not as easy as you think it is.

She's giving 5 grand for Ellen's birthday. It's a birthday gift. you have no idea how much she donates. Don't assume anything. And as far as a gift for a friend goes, I think 5 grand is pretty generous.
