Whimsical, sad, haunting, powerful, lonely. What ever exists in a man is there in Art's playing. Sometimes it just takes a little time to get into his flow, but once you do you're taken on that magic ride. Another victim to drugs. Why the hell do they do it?
this may be one of the best of arts ballad interpretations on yt. and that is saying alot since most of what he played was incredible. but this solo is wonderfully crafted. exquisite. great post!!!!
An all time giant alto player. Nobody with a sweeter, truer tone. No one could ride the lines like he could. When my Mom turned me onto him and his music in late 1970's, I knew I had made another habit and teacher for life. He was truly Somebody Special. Never fails to lift me out of banal ordinary daily life. Thank you for this tune. Thank you Art Pepper. Thank you Rudy Van Gelder. Cool, man....

My absolute FAVORITE Art Pepper recording of all time. A truly gorgeous version of this haunting standard. Art Pepper's great music will live on forever..................
What a smooth jazzy piece this is! Up until now, I've had no clue was Art Pepper's music was like nor have I heard of the man himself but, looking at the previous comments on this video, I now understand how pure his music was! Thank again! :)
Art Pepper was great. Read his biography "Straight Life" if you can find it. It's an insight into how screwed up one can get with drugs and ruin a life.
