How are these films chosen?) didn't want a puny fairy tale to win...but a movie that is real and serious: a movie that one only watches once, who then leaves it to gather dust in their movie cabinet.
i personally think the fact that the capitan couldnt see the faun and the mother couldnt see the mandrake die was not a sign that the fantasy was fake. It was jsut another part of the whole fairy tale bit where adults cant see the magic. You know, they have lost their innocence and so cannot see that which only the innocent can see. Kind of like unicorns. Only virgins can touch unicorns without being speared on the horn.
Everyone i know that saw it before me kept urging me to see it and I'm glad I finally got to see it. Don't be put off by subtiitles or anytihng like that. It truly is an amzing movie everyone should see.

The first, is that there is NO WAY for her to get from her room to the captain's office without using the chalk, second when she is running away from her stepfather the walls open up for her to pass, the most important and last is the flower blossoming on the dead tree.
The two worlds collide in that labyrinth, both worlds are as truly existent as the other. The other world where innocence and purity is upheld exist, which in turns gives innocence and goodness its tremendous power in midst of real evil.
the parallel world of fairy tales in the movie (which turns out to exist) could be representative of our real life existance of a parallel otherworld, namely a God, the source of goodness and compassion (the ultimate, real, existing fairy tale world so to speak, where in death and sacrifice there is life)The movie is ultimately a fable, but a fable that's significant because it's based on truth.

it's an independent foreign film. if you have a theatre that shows independent movies, like in Dallas, then it should be in one of those theatres.
