  • This song popped in my head when I read my acceptance letter just now!!!!!!

  • Am singing Tenor...i enjoyed singing dis Great Song:-)

  • I love this song...its great... THE KING SHALL REIGN FOREVER AND EVER...HALLELUIAH..

  • Jeremiah <3

  • showmatch

  • <3

  • LOVE DIZ SONG..

    God Spoke Out:)

  • Glorious!!!!!!

  • morphthing1 you should so put more choruses from the Messiah. It is very helpful to have the words as well as the music for the individual parts.

  • Was very happy to find this piece on here with the music and lyrics. Thank you.

  • the "dislikes" people are going to hell.

  • When I open a ballet studio, I want to partner with a choir school and maybe an orchestra school and do Messiah for a Christmas recital for all of us one year.

  • doing this for Christmas this year in choir the whole Messiah!!! learned it in 2 months, well not every song but pretty close :P and i'm saprono so i have to sing all the HIGHEST notes!!!! :P so hard

  • @TheActualAstrid Speaking as a soprano, I know it's a high piece. But A's should be nothing for most sopranos. A's for tenors are much harder.

  • @andeeroberts yeah i know, i've been singing my whole life....but its still crazy high, cuz this was my first time singing the Messiah

  • spectacularne!! bravo!!

  • Amazing piece. No one else, not even Mozart, wrote something as powerful and grand as this. King of kings indeed! No wonder, at the end of his life, Beethoven explained "Handel is the king of us all."

  • mmm!

  • This isn't about Jesus' birth or resurrection, people. It's about His second coming. You know, the one with all the fire and pestilence and famine and war and destruction.

"The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ. And He shall reign forever and ever. King of kings, and lord of lords."

  • so he wrote this right so is it called he messiah ?!!!

  • hermoos, precioso , es la melodia mas hermosaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's hard to sit in solemn silence in a dull dock dock when one contemplates the reign of a king whose kingdom is forever and ever. Jesus!

  • Primera vez que escucho en 2:53 "and He shall reign"

Creía que era "and Lord of Lords"

    ?????

  • :/ I didn't 'emphasize' a thing. Just brought it up. But whatever.

  • And now suddenly everyone realizes what I stated like 2 months ago and got yelled at for saying... interesting.

  • @ComposerJMA Yur fine

  • Why do the altos have two D's?They're capable of singing high

  • @Akee1990 That's the arrangement

  • @magpie4321 Ok

  • @Akee1990 maybe the song was written like that?

  • No worries, I was actually wondering so I can get this recording :) its very good.

  • @ComposerJMA Our church choir is going to record this. Except, with the "Lord of Lords".

  • @ComposerJMA pretty sure this is the 'standard' edition. What exact timing are you referring to?

  • @morphthing1 2:37 ish. I have ALWAYS heard it "King of Kings and Lord of Lords."

  • @morphthing1 He is referring to the "And he shall reign" after 2:50 It surprised me to, I'm pretty sure, that I'm used to hear another "And lord of lords" there.

  • @morphthing1 2:50 I always sing King of kings, and Lord of lords as tenor. But in this arrangement, it's not "and Lord of lords", but "and He shall reign"...

  • @morphthing1 Same here. This is the only version I've ever heard.

  • @morphthing1 yeah, i think they're right! interesting to hear "King of Kings" without the "Lord of Lords" ! great recording, just the same! thanks for uploading. you always have the best stuff!!!

  • @morphthing1 At 2:53 , "And he shall reign" is usually "And lord of lords". Since there are no definite version of Messiah, I guess there are no correct version, but the latter is what's usually heard, I must agree with ComposerJMA. It's also pretty weird that Handel would've split two phrases and put them together.

  • @morphthing1 At 2:53 , "And he shall reign" is usually "And lord of lords"; the repeat afterwards says it correctly. Since there are no definite versions of Messiah, I guess there is no correct version, but the latter is what's usually heard, I must agree with ComposerJMA. It's also pretty weird that Handel would've split two phrases and put them together.

  • @morphthing1 2:53, It should be "King of kings, and lord of lords". not "King of kings, and he shall reign". That's all.

  • @morphthing1

I think he is referring to the time starting at 2:50. Usually it's "King of kings.....and Lord of lords," instead of "King of kings, and he shall reign." This happens more than once later.

  • @morphthing1 he is talking about at 2:54 it should be lord of lords, not he shall reign

  • @morphthing1 Bar 77 should be 'and Lord of Lords'.

  • @morphthing1 Bar 77 is written "and he shall reign" in the Bärenreiter Urtext edition. But our choir sings Lord of Lords anyway.

  • @ComposerJMA true, at exactlly 2:48 the men say "King of kings", but they don't respond with "and lord of lords" like the lyrics go.... they just say "and he shall reign" on the D. Weird, I've heard several versions of the hallelujah and this is the first time I've heard that.

  • @margotlorena1 My point exactly. I have even ARRANGED the piece. Caught me by surprise ;)

  • "And he shall reign" instead of "And Lord of Lords"? What's the deal with the lyrics?

  • @ComposerJMA Perhaps the way you "emphasized" your correction brought it so much attention, if you get my drift.

  • @ComposerJMA well its certainly not the handel original manuscript edition.

  • @UnoriginalComposer No kidding.

  • @ComposerJMA: You are correct. At 2:52 this arrangement has ''and He shall reign'' whereas the standard arrangement has ''and Lord of Lords.'' I've never heard it this way before; I have no idea what the story is on this.

  • @ComposerJMA I did on my cd. sometimes they don't always play the full song or version. maybe it is a diff. hallelujah, there was one made by Bach and Mozarts

  • @Purplelady0790 Mozart's was in german; Though yes, maybe bach.

  • @ComposerJMA Really I did not know that. learned something today. "We learn something new everyday."

  • @ComposerJMA I know right? The first time I heard this version once through, I was just like "......wait what. 'King of kings, and he shall reign'? That's not right :("

  • @ComposerJMA This is correct.... What do you mean?

  • @ContinualCreativity The lyrics are not "King of kings, and he shall reign". They are "King of Kings and Lord of Lords". I have a direct copy of the original program from the initial performance of the work to back me up on this claim.

    Cordially,

    Joshua M. Abramson

    Neo-Baroque Composer

  • @ContinualCreativity

I think he means in 2:52 Its: (Bass/Tenor/Alto) King of Kings (for ever and ever {Bass})

    and LORD OF LORDS.

    But do not worry.

It is such an amazing piece of music!

  • i prefer coldplay

    prefiero a coldplay :D

  • I think it is the simplicity of this music that makes it one of the best composisions ever and puts Handel alongside the other great classical composers

  • It's really interesting, because the alto part was originally written for men.

  • so its pretty much the same word over....and over?

  • @whycryforher Well if there was to repetition of phrases I am fairly sure the Messiah would be a 30 minute piece! Some how doubt it would have quite the same impact if instead we just sang Hallelujah once and that was it.

  • @morphthing1 OMG...i dont know what you said.

  • @morphthing1 Exactly! Repitition is the key to baroque writing (Take it from me, I am a baroque composer)

  • @whycryforher It's a conglomerate of 3 bible passages.

  • @whycryforher lol it doesn't matter if they're repeating the same words/phrases/verses. Its praise unto God. Its still a beautiful piece.

  • @whycryforher Not really, I mean there are other words in there too

  • @fuzzynuggetman27 That's kool

  • @fuzzynuggetman27 Yeah what school do you go to?

  • I wonder if the soprano are panting for breath after that part

  • @HeistheRedeemer Second sopranos are. Firsts... not so much.

  • Those last four notes are always the most epic and the most godly to hear anytime!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are doing this for Christmas at church this year. I never thought I could learn it but I have and I loooove it!!! Thanks to sites like this I was able to join the choir late and catch up and perfect my alto part. Thank you. Long live Handel's Messiah! The best piece he ever wrote.

  • I'd hate to be a tenor.

  • @pianist32795 why

  • @alexpelaez97 and @pianist32795 We tenors do get a little bored/weary with all those F#s and Gs.

  • @pianist32795 Then take the lower part whenever you must.

  • 2:52 the lyrics must be And Lord of Lords...... something to say

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

  • I love this song! The Virginia Consort does it almost every other year, and I have steadily descended from a soprano when I was about eight, to alto when I was ten, tenor when I was twelve, and now bass when I'm just recently turned thirteen (we did it two years in a row), so I know all the parts well. It's REALLY fun to sing.

  • our school choir sings this every other year for the holiday concert :) and my choir director gave us the link to this video because it has the score in it! :D Very convenient, don't have to turn my own pages :P Thank you!

  • i wish i could play this on piano

  • I have finaly persuaded my school orchestra and chior to perfom this at the christmas concert, it is such an epic piece of music.

  • this was verry helpful thanks

  • I sing this every year in my choir for our holiday concert and I love it =)

  • @Jellybean1614 me too and i love it!! :D i'm soprano and you?

  • @littlepandaaa I'm a soprano also

  • @Jellybean1614 me too! :D

  • @xBabaO94x Thats awesome we just had our holiday concert

  • @Jellybean1614 us too! :) just last week. this song was pretty awesome. we tend to sing it way way way too fast most days so i'm glad it turned out ok c:
