everybody is saying there is a sudden invasion of british actors playing american made superheroes, it isn't sudden, ian mckellan and patrick stewart who played magneto and prof x in the x men trilogy were both british and michael fassbender and james mcavoy who played the same characters in x men first class were british, so it isn't a sudden change, anyways bale, garfield and cavill are all the best people to play the roles that they are playing.

@LotusHue Yes, he was on the shortlist of actors who were possible choices for 'Returns.' That's why in this interview he says he can do the role far more justice now than if he were to have gotten it back in 2006, as he has more experience now
This film should be an interesting and different take on Superman. I think Cavill looks like an older comic version of superman, and will do an amazing job, love the face that batman, spider man and superman are all played by brits :)
I think this guy can do the character justice, because he's a great actor and seems like a great guy as well; plus hes not like Reeve so makes it fresh. But then again, it all depends on the material that's given to him. I really hope and pray that these writers/the director stay true to the character. If they try to stray away and update the film TOO much, it will no longer be Superman. Superman is a very iconic character that can't be really be altered, even for the sake of an updated version.
@MisterCovek I know and Nolan's great. But no matter what happens a lot people are going to be unhappy with the final product just because it isn't a part of the Donnerverse. The only reason it didn't happen with Batman Begins in my opinion, is because Batman and Robin sucked SO bad, the fans were willing to take anything, where with Superman, the 70s films define an era. Not saying Batman doesn't, of course. On my end, I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and hope it does well overall.

I am just amused by how many totally uninformed people are posting negative comments about Cavill just for the sake of it. He is 6 ft 1 and he is extremely muscular. He was an ACTUAL rugby player. And he's put on a LOT of muscle for the role. He's physically the biggest Superman they've had in a while. He's perfect, and by far the best actor they will ever have for the role, given his Shakespearean background. A lot of people posting seem to not have any idea what movie business is about.

Yes, it's all about the jaw. It defines the face, hair colour and other stuff can be played with, but the JAW is what makes Superman. Unlike other heroes, Superman's head is his helmet/mask.
Im so excited about cavill playing superman. First of he is a Brit -love that. Secondly he has the perfect image for the role and as mentioned multiple times this guy can really act (see the tudors). I also was smallville fan and thought welling did a good job at playing a young superman in the making but in all honesty could never see him taking it to the big screen. As far as im aware this movie will not be a continuation of smallville and that wouldnt be clear with welling in the role.
by the way... ROUTH suit is good just to get rid of the closed neck, and make the "S" symbol a little bigger so when u look at the suit, it looks snappy..........

I mean it had a good setup, and while I was a child of the 90s, I too grew up on the Reeve Superman, so it felt very natural. In my humble opinion, I don't see how it flopped, it did well critically AND commercially, while nowhere near as good as Nolan's Batman, which is what it gets compared to ALL THE TIME, it was a good film. I mean, fans have seen WAY too much Superman origin, thanks to Smallville, so we need new!

Basically the sequel for superman returns was supposed to come out on 2009 but the studio said it didnt make as much profit as they would have hoped. I think the main reason most didnt like it was because of superman's son. In the new film i m pretty sure the origins will only be maybe the first 20-30 minutes since the title is 'man of steel' instead of 'superman begins' or something like that.

I liked Smallville until the finale and it was just a way for Tom and the writers to say FUCK YOU to the fans. So no, he isn't Superman and never will be. Stop using your fangirlism and judging against Cavill because he already looks the part. You and other posters need to educate yourselves about how film's work.

Yes, it's all about the jaw. It defines the face, hair colour and other stuff can be played with, but the JAW is what makes Superman. Unlike other heroes, Superman's head is his helmet/mask.

Im so excited about cavill playing superman. First of he is a Brit -love that. Secondly he has the perfect image for the role and as mentioned multiple times this guy can really act (see the tudors). I also was smallville fan and thought welling did a good job at playing a young superman in the making but in all honesty could never see him taking it to the big screen. As far as im aware this movie will not be a continuation of smallville and that wouldnt be clear with welling in the role.

i think this CAVILL guy can do better than ROUTH... routh didnt get any REEVES style for the movie, i mean how he do his hair (brushed to the right if his clark kent and to the left if his on the suit) and bit of a hunchback when hes clark kent, bcoz he made his self look stupid so he can hide the SUPERMAN inside of him. and changing also his voice... i hope this CAVILL guy can do that, bcoz thats the originality of a SUPERMAN that no one can adopt... and i hope they can upgrade the suit too...

Bale brings more out of the Batman character. And you could give a lot of that credit to Nolan and Goyer but, he's better than Keaton. I don't have a problem with Keaton being shorter than comic book batman but, a lot of Batman Returns features this 8th grader sized Batman crime fighting and its Annoying.
And I've actually seen Keaton in person. He's not 5'10", he's shorter than that.

Is a complete reboot of the series, "Superman: The Movie", "Superman II", "Superman Returns". Neither of those movies "exist" in terms. Obviously, we will love the Christopher Reeve movies. But, they will play no part in the new movie. But, it will definitely be action packed. A main villian was confirmed; ZOD.

my only wish for this movie is that it is LESS about his origins and more like his early years as the Man of Steel. We've done his origins enough times I will be bored to tears. I mean if they tell the story where he's already been Superman for a small while, but not enough to where he's completely trusted and people suck his dick for anything, that would be interesting. I mean it had a good setup, and while I was a child of the 90s, I too grew up on the Reeve Superman, so it felt very natural. In my humble opinion, I don't see how it flopped, it did well critically AND commercially, while nowhere near as good as Nolan's Batman, which is what it gets compared to ALL THE TIME, it was a good film. I mean, fans have seen WAY too much Superman origin, thanks to Smallville, so we need new!

@SoraMatt I might have overexxagerated the 'failing in every aspect'. Basically the sequel for superman returns was supposed to come out on 2009 but the studio said it didnt make as much profit as they would have hoped. I think the main reason most didnt like it was because of superman's son. In the new film i m pretty sure the origins will only be maybe the first 20-30 minutes since the title is 'man of steel' instead of 'superman begins' or something like that.
