  • how you have the 9 credits from start?in my game i need do the UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT...you know...,nice play!

  • Do you guys know who the old wizard guy is from 16:42?

Just leave me a PM for your answer please and thank you.

  • @JasonLee215 "SuperGrafx version had a badly drawn background

    "

but the MD had better drawn background then? com'n, take of your pink sunglasses.

  • what are they saying at 16:40, its in japanese and kind of crucial because then the game starts over , anybody know what they are saying translation plz

  • @JasonLee215

Uhh.. You do know that the X68000 and the original CPS1 arcade board have EXACTLY the same sound chip, and sound completely identical? Obviously not. Capcom used the X68000 as a development computer for their arcade games.

The Supergrafx version of GnG is much closer to the arcade than the MD version. Just compare the graphics.

  • @JasonLee215

Now I realize that you talk about Ghosts n Goblins in a video about Ghouls n Ghosts.

Ghosts n Goblins on the Amiga is indeed very close to the arcade machine. I however am referring to the Amiga version of Ghouls n Ghosts.

    Stupid names... ;)

  • @JasonLee215

Uh, it has jerky scrolling, runs in 16 colours, and has the same differences from the arcade version. Typical Atari ST conversion. Only the sound by Tim Follin is Amiga specific.

If you say that the arcade version was directly ported to the Amiga, then you obviously have no clue how the arcade version looks like. THIS here is the second closest port of the arcade machine. The only version, which is pixel and sound perfect, is the X68000 version.

  • that game is full of pure win!!

  • high level picture than sega genesis version. but music bad.

  • can't beat the snes version imo.

  • @DaveC86 Well, they're pretty different games. Super GNG has double jump, while regular Ghouls 'n Ghosts has multi-directional weapon throwing. The SNES game definitely looks better, but I prefer the level layouts and bosses of the Genesis version.

  • it's a freaking hard game and yet the imagination behind it is so amazing, that's why we all love it

  • to this day I'm amazed at how faithful and good arcade ports the PC engine recieved

  • @Muffincakeswithsugar This is a super grafx port, not a PC Engine. Most PC Engine arcade ports were the worst out of the big 3 consoles that gen. It had a very poor processor. The super grafx also had a poor processor compared to Genesis, but it made up for it with a lot of ram, and the cards were very big (costing over 100 dollars, too). Only like 7 games were ever made for the console.

  • @Parryall2 LOL more fanboy drivel. The PC Engine Neo Geo ports KILL any other versions (not on Neo Geo of course)....let's not even start on the SNES's anemic processor speed (shumps flicker/slowdown GALORE).

  • Comment removed

  • Why did you always wlak away from the boxes exept for the one at the first level? Don't you think the golden armor is cool? XD

  • if u dont scream at this game u have no soul iv gotten to the last level but i could never beat it

  • Amiga Ghosts n Goblins looks & sounds better than that

  • Everything is better in memory ...

  • @Mr123JasonLee

The Amiga version may have great music, but the rest of the game is very disappointing (thanx to being an Atari ST port). This version has lots of colours, parallax scrolling, big sprites, and most important: it runs at 60fps. It's quite close to the arcade.

  • LOL

  • Wow, looks a lto better than the genesis/megadrive version.

    Far better music too.

  • i used to play this when i was little and then i forgot i was always trying to find out the name of it, but now ive finally found it!

    i love this game!

  • One of hardest games ever created, but always fun to play

  • this game is a joke super ghouls and ghosts is hard ghosts and goblins also

  • sucks when a boss fighting strat makes you remove the boss from the screen so we can even see it when were fighting. lol...

  • And Sega Genesis

  • And for Television and movie theater

  • ahhhh nostalgic =]

  • Actually, he's right.

When you're putting gfx on the screen using the PCE hardware, you havet 32 pallettes of 16 colours each. 16 for sprites, 16 for backgrounds, all drawn from 512 colour master pallete.

But, colour #0 on each pallete must be the same, as a colour used for transparency.

This gives you 15 colours per pallete in real terms. giving you...

    16 x 15 + 1 = 241 for sprites and:

    16 x 15 + 1 = 241 for Background tiles

    482 colours on screen total.

    :)

  • SEGA GENESIS FTW

  • Psh, 5 playable games only.

  • SuperGrafx version is better in some ways:

Better & more forground+background detail, better looking sprites, more colors on screen.

Genesis version is better in other ways:

Better color pallet, music sounds better overall thanks to FM synth.

  • LOL at 10:00 I swear when I finally did beat this game back on genesis, every chest I would open would have one of those dracula guys waiting to kill me.

  • Graphics and sound are really good on this.

  • Fools 'N Ghosts

  • I can't believe there's actually an argument over whether the SGX version is better than the Genesis version. SGX winds hands down.

  • the best version is the arcade version available on MAME or NEBULA. for a home conversion i prefer this one, the super grafx. i had it once in 2002 when i bought one from a collector. it was an awesome system but unfortunately it did not have a lot of developer support.

  • The TurboGrafx-16 had an 8-bit CPU and a 16-bit graphics chip capable of displaying 482 colors at once.

    wikipedia

  • SuperGrafx Ghouls n Ghosts could end up on Nintendo Wii as a Virtual Console game i'm not sure i would buy it

    Genesis/Mega-Drive Ghouls n Ghosts cost 800

    points

SNES Super Ghouls n Ghosts cost 800 points

  • Its been announced for Japan on VC.

  • SuperGrafx port looks like Ghouls n Ghosts arcade version

it sounds like SNES Super Ghouls n Ghosts only worse

    SNES better version vs SuperGrafx

PSP Ghosts n Goblins better version vs SuperGrafx

i've got all 3 games Ghosts n Goblins, Ghouls n Ghosts, Super Ghouls n Ghosts on PSP & Xbox Capcom Collection (arcade perfect versions)

  • PS2,Xbox,PSP Capcom Classics Collection versions of Ghouls 'N Ghosts are not arcade perfect (although they ARE arcade-quality) because they're based on the PS1 Capcom Generation 5 version which has some flaws.

the resolution isn't 384x224 like the CPS Arcade so it's not arcade perfect. There's slowdown and the distant backgrounds are washed down / too dim to be seen properly.

  • I meant PS1 Capcom Generation 2 (1998).

  • JokinJoe & superpcenginegrafx

    losers can't accept the facts

    full of shit

    talk crap

  • Arcade/Genesis/Mega-Drive better versions because 2 player game & sharper graphics

Ghouls n Ghosts SuperGrafx = 1 player game

  • Jason, the controller doesn't change the fact that the SuperGrafx version of the game was better than the Genesis one. I'm talking about the game itself, not the controller.

Genesis= worse all around, with completely re-drawn graphics so that can actually work on the system, because it's quite clear that the Genesis couldn't handle the original graphics. Also, the Genesis uses completely different sounds because it can't handle the original sounds.

    GENESIS VERSION SUCKS. The end.

  • PC-Engine/TurboGrafx = terrible controller

  • Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive = better controller

SuperGrafx controller looks like a NES or SMS

  • oh, and one more thing. I think that the SuperGrafx version of this game has the coolest sounding 'theme song' out of all the versions. (You know, the song in the first stage.)

  • Also, I unserstand that many of you played the Genesis version, since it was the most available. But, it also seems as if some of you are defending the Genesis version just becasuse it's the one you remember... I grew up playing the Genesis, but this and the arcade versions are MUCH better than the Genesis version. To think otherwise is ignorant and stupid.

And I must say, this version is very close to the arade version... Not perfect, but damn close. Closer than the Genesis, at least.

  • I'm sorry, but the Genesis sounds and songs sounded much worse than this or the arcade versions.

  • only Japan Sega Master System had a FM sound chip Yamaha YM2413

  • 99% of sound in Genesis games is FM.

  • Ghouls n Ghosts SuperGrafx

    not enough resolution

    too many colours on screen

  • GnG SGX has a resoltion of 336 x 224.

The arcade version has the most color of all.

  • every Genesis/Mega-Drive game has a better resolution

no wonder that SuperGrafx game looks terrible

  • SuperGrafx 482 on screen colours (513 colours available)

    241 background & 241 sprites

  • SuperGrafx 482 colours on screen

    most games 256 x 240 resolution

    Genesis/Mega-Drive games 256 x 244 or 244 x 320 resolution

    Sega = better graphics

  • Yamaha YM2151

  • Genesis/Mega-Drive 6 FM, 3 PSG, 1 Digital/PCM, 1 Noise + sound chip used in coin-op machines Capcom, Konami, Namco, Sega

    SuperGrafx 6 PSG

  • The Genesis has a different FM sound chip than those companies' arcade games, including Sega themselves.

  • @superpcenginegrafx

The FM synthesis isn't much different, since both the YM2612 and YM2151 use 4OP FM synth with the same operator algorithms.

  • Genesis/Mega-Drive 11 or 12 audio channels

    SuperGrafx 6 audio channels

Ghouls n Ghosts Genesis/Mega-Drive better audio

  • If you're serious and you're saying that you believe that the Genesis is overall technically superior, then so be it.

But a system's capabilities has nothing to do with the quality of it's games/ports. It all depends on how well the game/port itself is made.

    SuperGrafx - 512 colors onscreen

    Genesis - 64 colors onscreen

By your logic, every Genesis game should look 8 times worse.

  • The Genesis has 6 fm sound channels and a Sega Master System. There's a single channel for samples that can only play 1 full quality sample at a time.

The SGX/PCE has 6 sound channels, all of which can run full quality samples at any time.

The SuperGrafx version sounds like the arcade. If you prefer the Genesis music to both the arcade and SuperGrafx, that's your opinion but the number of channels is irrelevant.

  • looks like NEC messed up porting Ghouls n Ghosts on the SuperGrafx

Sega did a better job porting Ghouls n Ghosts on the Genesis/Mega-Drive

  • Ghouls n Ghosts

    Arcade/Genesis/Mega-Drive has a background

    SuperGrafx doesn't have a background

  • Well this certainly is a new one. How could AirRaidX not have discovered this glaring omission?

  • you need to explain what you're talking about better. where?

I've already pointed out where SuperGrafx version is missing a background layer on stage 3-1.

  • Ghouls n Ghosts

    Genesis/Mega-Drive arcade perfect better version

SuperGrafx had a loss in colour depth & sound quality

  • Genesis/Mrgadrive - 100% redrawn graphics, completely different than arcade. Sounds much different than arcade.

SuperGrafx - most of it's graphics ported from arcade. Sound quality is very similar to the arcade.

  • The music on the Genesis game was better. Also people forget this verions is a larger memory of 8meg compared to 5meg for the genesis version so at almost twice the size it better be closer to arcade perfect.

  • Ahh the ill fated Super Grafx. This system attracted fascination inspired mystery when the urban legend went out that a Capcom employee lost most of his sanity and health while trying to make a Super Grafx version of Strider.

  • I don't know why the super graphx didn't use a mos technologies 65c816 as it was backwards compatible with the 6502 (the main processor of the tg16). They could have maintained backward compatibility while giving the system a much needed speed boost. The 65c816 was 4x faster clock per clock than a 286 and would have allowed nec to compete through the 16 bit era. Releasing a new system without a processor upgrade was just a bad idea.

  • NEC & Hudson were originally supposed to bring out a true 16-bit PC-Engine 2 with a 16-bit CPU better graphics including scaling & rotation, and better audio. The SuperGrafx only had the improvements of twice the # of sprites and a 2nd background layer. Colors were the same. CPU was the same. Audio was the same. SGX wasn't a big enough upgrade over the PCE so developers didn't support it (5 dedicated games made) and gamers didn't buy it (50,000 SGX manufactured).

  • Umm, no NEC wasn't supposed to bring out a true 16 bit machine as there was really no need for it, it's not that developers didn't support Supergrafx it just got pulled very early because there was simply NO need for the machine because the PC engine was doing fine at the time... thanks for the uneducated comment though

  • @christo930 Wasn't needed because the VDC (or in the case of the SuperGrafx the two VDCs) do most of the work anyway. The workload on the CPU hardly increased at all by adding a second VDC.

  • @Atomicskull I remember reading complaints about the TG-16 by programmers that cpu usage would go too high

  • i beat this game without dying once. you have to replay it to get the ending but i was able to get through in one life the first time around. the kid next to me was pissed because we were playing 2 players and he was waiting his turn to play. i was cutting school back then (junior high in 1989). to top it off, the buttons on the right side were broken so i had to cross my hand over to use the ones on the left.

  • Ghouls and Ghosts thought up so many inventive ways to kill you.

It was also great how you went from wielding the Super Speedy knife of Awesome-o to that crap ass holy weapon for the second run through. The 'ultimate' weapon made the game friggen HARDER.

    Nice work. :D

  • not a bad playthrough... a very good run that shows a fair bit of mastery...

Most impressive, for anyone... this game is ROUGH...

Also, like most games on various systems, the last games on the system tend to push the system further, so to rate the GEN version against the TG version is a little unfair, even if I have to agree with the conclusion...

    be well, all

  • That you avoid taking any weapons at all costs on purpose makes it a boring longplay.

  • I  the PC-Engine. I never did get one and went from the NES to the Megadrive (Genesis). I am however enjoying all the games I can get and play them via Magic Engine!

  • i love the sounds of a turbografx.soooo coool!!!!!!

  • DAMN!!!! The sound is awesome in this version, never heard it before now.

  • Wow, looks and sounds way better than the Genesis version.

  • yes and this console is an 8 bit

  • yeah a 16 bit graphic on a 8 bit processor. Or 8-bit on steroids like the neo geo.

  • cpu of neo geo

    Motorola M68000 (16-bit 12 MHz) + Zilog Z80 (8-bit 4 MHz)

    cpu of SuperGrafx 7.16MHz 8-bit 1.5 MIPS

neo geo is a 16 bit on steroids

  • yep! dead-on

  • but NEO-GEO resolution is not as high as Capcom's CPS1 board

    NEO-GEO: 320x224

    CPS1: 384x224

  • but remember each game had its own processor!

like KOF 2002 and sam showdown4 where still on cartridge and still on the same NEO GEO system! so resolution fluxuated throughout games

  • @padonat you know your stuff

  • the best 8-bit that surpasses the genesis.CDwise anyways. :P

  • btw, awesome play-through superpcenginegrafx.

you're better at GnG than me.

Another thing that should be obvious about the SG is the severe lack of color in the DISTANT parallax backgrunds. looks like there's only 4 colors (maybe as much as 8-16) in the distant background in the rock turtle village. the arcade had a few dozen colors.

the main foreground is more colorful of course, but still less than the arcade. upto 74 colors (total on screen) for SG compared to 200+ for arcade.

  • just to clarify, I am not saying the SG hardware can only do 74 colors on screen, I'm saying that's what was used for GnG.

SG is capable of 482 colors on-screen out of 512 (same as PC Engine).

    CPS1 can do 2048 colors on-screen out of 65,536.

  • the music is so awesome

  • Hey Keranu! :D It's ceti.

Nice playing by the by. This is such an awesome port of this game.

  • So that's who you are on YouTube! I'm pretty sure I've seen your name on here before!

  • nice playing man

  • turbo/super grafx, PC engine and DUO all come with a turbo switch on the pad.

  • That was a fun video to watch but I was hoping you would have fought the final boss. I believe his name is Loki. Although Loki isn't as tough

as the the final boss from super Ghouls & Ghosts

Whose like a gigantic demon king. In where you have to jump platforms to blast him on the head. Do you know his name cause I forgot it?

  • supergrfx system version of ghouls did a fine translation.

  • Seeing this brings back so many memmories.

  • ARCADE PERFECT

  • the arcade version is perfect.

the supergrafx version is...... well.. LOL

  • LOL I know! The Supergrafx version is so arcade perfect that it even goes beyond arcade perfection!

  • no.

  • Makaimura, parece que hace siglos que lo jugué muchisimas gracias por el video, me has hecho recordar buenos y viejos tiempos.

  • Oh man, a perfect port of ghouls and ghosts how cool!

  • no. not perfect

  • I'm not sure who to believe here on this subject. I seem to recall Louis Farrakhan saying that his feet were behind the grass and the Super Grafx port was 100% spot on perfect. That videos like this and other floating on the web are altered by the "man" to keep the Super Grafx down.

These feet are a very touch subject and must be handled with upmost political correctness.

  • Is that you, ragtime? :D

  • Is it true this wasn't a perfect arcade port as claimed ? I heard something once about Arthur's feet not being behind the grass.

Is that true ? I wonder what socially void nutcase was the first to notice it.

Anyhow, awesome game and a real trophy amongst countless other classic Capcom hits.

  • It's true. I saw a story on this exact subject on Dateline last week. They were saying Arthur's feet were not behind the grass and even made the startling revelation that he might have been on the sidewalk. After finding this all out, it really makes you think about life.

  • even if Arthur's feet went behind the grass in the SuperGrafx version (it doesn't but if) that wouldn't make up for the large loss of color and some loss of detail.

  • DaiMakaiMura / Ghouls 'n Ghosts' difficultly is highly overrated. while it's not the easiest game in the world, it IS the easiest game of the series.

    The prequel: Ghosts 'n Goblins

and sequel: Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, are both much more difficult.

  • Ghosts 'n Goblins used to kick my ass.

  • You make this look easy, but then again, I believe that only the most honorable and skilled players can beat this game even if it does take them to try hard enough. I want to point out a few things that I didn't notice until after the Daimakaimura Audio Deathmatch.

  • I think the sound effects are nifty on the Sega Genesis version (especially the low farting sound that the stumps make when they die) and their are some music pieces that sound better than the others. You gotta respect this one's arcade faithfulness, though. The graphics are more accurate to the arcade in more places than the Sega Genesis version. They look like paper trees here!

  • Dumb Question but I need to know.

Are SuperGrafx cards playable on a PC Engine Duo-R?

  • No, only a SuperGrafx can play SuperGrafx games, but it can also play PC Engine games.

  • Wow. So how many games did they make on it? I've only played Aldynes, Daimakaimura, Battle Ace, and some mahjong game. I gotta say this version is my favorite version of Ghouls n Ghosts. I just had the best sound effects! Thanks for the answer on the SuperGrafx question.

  • There are five real SuperGrafx games: GnG, Aldynes, Battle Ace, Granzort and 1941.

Super Darius and the promo Darius Alpha are regular PC Engine games that benefit from reduced flicker during boss fights when run in SuperGrafx mode.

  • I would have rather seen this come out for PC engine instead. I believe there is nothing here that requires some new hardware.

  • The only real use of the SuperGrafx hardware is the seperate scrolling background layer. The PC Engine can still do it through techniques, but this game like most would still look fine without it.

Forgotten Worlds shows how well the Turbo/PCE can do CPS-1 graphics. We should've gotten a port of GnG/Daimakaimura that looked like that on Super CD.

  • There was always something really cool about seeing the Regular PCE/Turbo16 perform to it's best. There was something sorta endearing about it...It was like a Cross between NES and SNES With a hint of Mega Drive.

  • but also of use was the additional main RAM (32k vs 8k) and video RAM (128k vs 64k) compared to the PC-Engine. and the 2nd graphics processor, although it couldn't be fully used because the CPU had trouble keeping up since it was the same one the original system had.

  • you're probably close to right, I could see this 8-meg version of Ghouls n Ghosts being done on the PC-Engine, probably with some flicker though.

  • 2nd lvl is not scary music lol its sounds kiddy

  • I'm confused. What exactly happened at the end, after beating the Boss fly?

  • You have to play through the game again, picking up a special weapon from the first stage and then make it to the end without losing it to fight the real last boss.

  • level 2 has to be the most annoying level ever with those STUPIS tortoise things

  • where but the final boss lucifer, you not complet the game.

  • this game is available for xbox on capcom classics collection.

  • All I got to say is total props man!! you kicked that games ass big time.

I used to have that game for turbo Grafx back in the day but I was no were as good as you.

    Damn you are so good.

  • They had this for the TurboGraphx? I dont remember. I played it for the first time on the NES. Cool video

  • no. this game is for the SuperGrafx a more powerful version of the TurboGrafx. not the same console.

  • Ghouls 'n Ghosts never came out on the TurboGrafx,

it came out on the SuperGrafx.

  • Yeah, I don't think I've ever lived long enough to die by time limit. You either manage to clear the level or you die.

  • They MUST have a time limit. Like this game ain't hard enough.. Ghost n Goblins/Ghouls n Ghosts games are in the top 5 hardest games of all time!!!!

  • I played and completed it on the Sega Genesis. That was a long time ago.

  • Its coming on the psp.

  • Do you mean Capcom Classics Collection Remixed Vol 2? Or is it also in Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins?

  • i can never get past these levels, manly the bosses

  • Yeah, the problem with the japanese versions of these games is that you start back at like half way through the level and have to make it all the way back to the boss and then defeat them.

  • wow that was amazing

  • if i want to play this game i need SuperGrafx?

  • Yes, this is a SuperGrafx game. There are only 6 games for the SuperGrafx, but if you flick a switch on the SuperGrafx, it can play any PC Engine HuCard game and it can be hooked up to either PC Engine CD-ROM to play PC Engine CD games.

  • i sure liektobuy on and pe engine allso

  • do you have one

were did you get yours at

  • I bought my first one on eBay, where they're cheap and plentiful. The one I used to record this video I bought locally from a private collector.

  • sellme yourpe engine

  • Well, if you're looking to play this game, you'll need a SuperGrafx.
