I would have added "Soldier Story", a movie I believe was Denzel's first major movie. His acting brilliance was on display then, as early as '83. Set on an Army base in Louisiana 1942, it deals with the racial tension of the segregated south after a Black Sargent ("Sargent Waters" - Adolf Caesar). Various layers are unfolded of racial hate on & off the Army base, stereotypes of class/rank/race, destructive paths and an unlikely ending. If you love Denzel, this is a good movie to see!
