  • The violinist sounds more than a violin player should. Terrific!!!!

Would anyone tell me who he is?

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excuse me,Paul Produced it for Mary Hopkin in 1968.

  • @Dion1957 Paul McCartney did produce Mary Hopkin's recording in 1968, but that was not the first recording of this song, nor did the original lyricist compose the melody; he adapted an old Russian folk tune. A quick trip to Wikipedia will tell you all you need to know :)

  • i shed tears. 26 yr old male :p

    Bravo!

  • i shed tears. 26 yr old male :p

  • Excuse me, Paul McCartney wrote this.

  • @Dion1957 excuse me...paul mccartney? he wasn`t even born when this song was written!!!!!!!

  • Guys, you're too fast for singing with you))

  • @Ashtonian54 I agree with you.

  • I love this!!

  • made famous by a British girl, beautiful played by some Japanese musicians, originally made in Russia!

  • Very well done.

  • Very moving, my little babooshkas :-)

  • Nice performance for both instruments..

but in the Hook part, it's too fast...

in my opinion if you keep rhythm slower than that , it will be great

  • Great !!

  • Hay quá <3

  • Just truly awesome. Thank you for sharing your music.

  • The violin player is excellent, but the guitar player (who may be good solo) is ruining the song with his choppy, 4 beat strumming.

VERY annoying but give you two stars. Guitar player: work on your accompaniment skills!

  • omg why this guitar dude spoiling this.....damn

  • Very very nice. Really good recording quality.

Yes, I will have to show this to my son - who's learning violin right now.

    Is it Klezmer yet? :-)

I have no problem with other nationalities, i DO have a problem with MORONS who tell other ppl what to do or think and are just looking to an opportunity to preach. Have a nice day, everyone:))

  • Em thích anh chơi violin, anh chơi hay quá :X

  • bravo!

  • Wow, awesome! =)

  • За родину товарищи

  • Is he playing the original Russian, or the english verson ?

  • @amitgoel150, neighter or both - as you wish. This song has at least a hundred variations, both textual and music. Russian canonical version is dated 1924 with Podrevsky's lyrics, but it had been played since 1917 with Boris Fomin's (composer) lyrics. It had became go-go at 1960th, so in several decades every idiot tried to sing it with own "style".

  • Guitar chơi tẻ nhạt! :|

  • Hơi bị nể các bác. I'm proud of you.

  • the violin sounds amazing

  • The violin is stealing my heart beats in a dreamy way... love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mary Hopkins, the first artist singed by the Beatles for Apple Records.

  • Tenstarsplus !!! OMG this is so beautiful that I cried, and us big tough ol' guys don't cry!!! Now I know why this melody was chosen for the song Mary Hopkin sang!!!!! It almost sounds Gypsy, so I knew it had it's origins in that part of Europe!!!! Kudos!!!!! Fantabulous!!!!!!!!!

  • Great, very great!

Love this violin & guitar performance!

  • Brilliant

for the history of this song with original russian reccordings just search in Youtube:

Dorogoy dlinnoyu BEFORE Those were the days

  • I'm a big fan of this song because the Irish love to sing it, no more than my Mother. It was sung by Mary Hopkins in the Eurovision song contest in 1968. Although it didn't win, today it remains a very popular song in Ireland to this day. I've heard it several times and always believed it was of Russian or there abouts. However, good on yea boys for a great compsite.

  • Mary Hopkins was the first artist signed by the Beatles to their Apple Records. Nice version here. Most of Hopkins songs were traditional tunes.

  • But in that time Paul was love in her. Don'tbe a child. I love this song 100%

  • Mary Hopkins

  • Hopkin.

  • what a great song that will last forever.

  • where's the balalaika?

  • i love the violin

  • I love this arrangment of this song. :)

  • @Westyrulz west,you asshole !...I'm 1/4 Ukrainian .... So ,don't tell that I'm slavic !

hey who were the first peoples of russia? The Ukraine is traditional Russia /Old Russsia! before you say death to the Slavs and their culture , you 'd better have proof that you're at least 1/4 to 1/2 Russian!

  • HFC HAARLEM

    WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU

  • this is awesome! and, yes, it does sound russian, now that I know it is!

  • Thinking about it, it does sound Russian

  • Yes it does...

  • @Bogoizbrania thanks for the Russian lyrics,my friend

  • Great!

  • great!

  • That was absolutely fantastic . I had to play it a few more times, I enjoyed it that much. Thank you

for posting this. There are 3 instruments I like: Piano Violin and Sax. You made my day.

Incidentally. The Seekers 'The Carnival is Over' is a Hungarian Folk Song they stole and changed the lyrics to.

  • @AndrewKoala how do you know that the seekers stole the song? they could've covered it

  • @Freyja1133 - You can see from newer comments that I started something here. I know it is not a cover as it was played to me (on a Vinyl record by a Hungarian. Now maybe it was originally Russian or Polish or Hungarian and anyone of them could have a cover of it. But the Seekers completely altered the lyrics, and used / plagiarized someone else' s tune. That is 100% for certain.

  • Absolutely woderful - thanks so much for posting this..

  • yea this version is in the russian cartoon "nu pagadi"

  • Hmm ! Can someone help, i want to vote on some of these comments, but after i clicked on a 'thumbs up,' refresh the page - my vote has been erased . Huh!

  • mine to...dont know why...

  • Thanks : )

  • LOVED THE PART WITH THE ARTIFICIAL HARMONICS! Bravo!! I really like :D

  • where did u get the music sheet for violin for this song? i look 4 it everywhere, plz help

  • Great stuff

  • rockerbell, was so right ,.. Music needs no Passport !!! Passports take us to other places geographically, but , our Ears to hear,do not need Passports , when they enjoy & hear talent as mine are hearing now .. We need to Appriciate

  • wonderful !!! was a joy , to hear this , I thank, the talented people who, play ed this wonderful rendition..It truly was a joy to hear !! Thank-you

  • Who cares for nationalities? Music needs no passport :-)

  • @rockrebell

yes, of course, but if you sing my song, you just say: "it's yours, not mine, but in MY interpretation" and Mary Hopkin don't do it

  • great boy....do it.

  • Keep up the timing boys! The early part is a bit wrong.

You have good hearts and the feeling is very good.

  • At any rate, anyone who looks at the home page of the poster can see that these artists are Vietnamese.

Really great work. Its music played with such heart.

  • It's hard to say about the violinist, but the guitarist is definitely Vietnamese

In fact, I might have seen him somewhere lol

  • Okay, Vietnamese, Chinese, Louse, and Cambodian and Japanese all look different.

I'm Russian (born and raised) so it's kind of hard not to tell the difference. You have to be in contact with different cultures often enough to be able to distinguish different character traits and different facial features.

  • @Volokhov

Interesting. I met Russians who are definately Asian in appearance. I believe many are of Siberian or Central Asian origin.

  • to sheburnslikethesun:

    - YOU CAN TELL A JAPANESE FROM VIETNAMESE?

    YOU MUST BE CHINESE, LOL

  • I'm Vietnamese n' he looks like a fellow to me. Btw, his nick is in vietnamese and his profile says that he's from Vietnam. And also, a Japanese male looks really different from a Vietnamese male. Is that enough?

  • NO NO NO !!!! i don't think you're right at all dude. It's really easy to tell a japanese from vietnamese people. Easy as you can define yourself from Germans or English or blah blah blah. ANYWAY, i understand this. Maybe it's really difficult for you to define Japs or Viets cus you grew up in some well else. I know it's hard just like how a colorblind man define you and a black person y'know ? HAHA.

  • Pwahahaha, you're trolling dude:)

  • I liked it very much!

  • Japanese?

They don't even remotely look japanese...

    vietnamese.

    fool :)

  • They are Vietnamese, not Japanese. If I was Russian, I would be honored that they are attempting to honor/appreciate a piece of Russian music. Regardless, music transcend cultures and nationalities. Take it easy and have a nice day.

  • @awildelepht russians have plenty to be proud of without having to be "honoured" by smn "appreciating" our art,ok? and there are no "IF" s in this case, you`re not a russian, so don`t say what u WOULD feel if u were one, it`s ridiculous;vietnamese-stay vietnamese, if u please..

  • @nataliiiaf

get real baby! You're talking nonsense! vietnamese stay vietnamese hahahaha!!!
