Hey, taxidriver 508, i actually found a website about 8 months ago about Karyl Houston, with lots of photos of him through the years. Guess he's alive anyway... i had assumed he was dead. I first saw his show when in was 18 in '77, and then saw it many times over the years. then remember he was banned from Jacques because of some fight he had with sylvia sidney? so he used to hang out in playland. i used to talk to him there a lot. he was a pretty good jazz singer actually.
A national treasure. Saw him at Playland in Boston in the 70s. Had a face like a pug when not in drag, but with a dozen gin and tonics under my belt he was hightly entertaining and strangely hypnotic. Was old as dirt then I heard that he had been doing his thing on stage since WW2. RIP Sylvia Sydney
