Too bad that when you were young, able bodied, and this nation was at war, you never backed up those eloquent words by serving your country.

Others in the entertainment field served. Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart flew dangerous bombing missions as air force pilots. Art Carney was wounded at Normandy, and walked with a limp for the rest of his life. Charles Durning survived D-Day and the Bulge. Many others served as well.

But not the "Duke".

Plus his age and the number of children he had also played a part. But to say he didn't help in the fight is not accurate. Many people helped and were still at home.

My father in law served his country by staying home and using his skills for the construction of tanks, trucks, munitions, etc. He was a machinist. He could not serve because he was needed here. Believe me he was a patriot through and through.
