Nice try kid. The first thing you do is remove the lid, wash with mild soap and water. Second is you fill the bottle with water and screw the lid back on. Third you squeeze out one whole bottle of water threw the filter in order to remove any carbon dust inside the filter( I did this twice). Then refill the bottle and drink. The water is filtered by flowing threw the filter as you drink, not as you add the water to the bottle. Nice try though I give you credit.
