Excellent tribute to the Great Man ! I bought this on LP in the 70s. Then bought it on Japanese import CD in the 80s.For those that like Brian Wilson please purchase any album you can get your hands on by Chis Rainbow. You will not be disappointed.
I don't believe normal people like myself have the slightest idea how complex and complicated Brian Wilson is. His musical works are completely unexplainable!
A wonderfully well-put-together montage, congrats Tonysharpe121. Many of the shots bring back v. warm memories here. Also - A terrific song & music to match !! Very Brian-esque in its style & arrangement. How can anyone not love BW to bits !! A humble, sweet, sensitive, yet resolute and all-round remarkably talented man. His recovery since circa 1988 has just got better & better - to the endless joy of all his deep admirers all over the world (this correspondent included, of course).
Sometimes I feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia when I hear the Beach Boys. They symbolize youth. They bring back a rush of memories of a more carefree and happy time although it didn't seem like that at the time. I was 17 when Pet Sounds came out. Not too popular at the time, it is now considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Ironically, it was nostalgic for me the very first time I heard it. I felt even at the time that the BBs were looking back at their childhood in Pet Sounds.
This is a very moving, excellently-put-together tribute, to a truly beloved American musical genius, and a very gentle, humble man who oozes love, goodwill and harmony. And all set to an equally high-quality, creative and appropriate song. This is GREAT WORK ! Thank you so much Tonysharpe121. P.S. - thank goodness that dorkhunter1 hasn't spoiled this posting and its most positive collective commentary, by popping up on this site like the serial pest he is.
thanxfor posting christoper rainbow a great singer i`m sure he had a record called all night in the 70`s could you confirm tony blackburn used to play him a lot on his radio show
thanx for posting this i`ve tried to get christopher rainbow for a long time on this sight i`m sure he did a record called all night ....not sure of title.....about 1974? could you help me it was a great song cheers
Actually this track comes from 'Looking over my Shoulder' . There is a similar track on 'Home of the Brave' called ..'Home of the Brave'. I know because I have the original vinyl 1975 album right next to me. I've just put 'Give me what I cry for' on here - just working on 'Solid state Brain' but having problems with the Robot Union.
Terrific job!! I'm 61...have been a Beachboys fan since Day 1 -- saw them in the mid-60's -- Brian was 'sick', Glen Campbell was filling in. Their music...BRIAN's music...captures the essence of 'the day.' Thanks for a wonderfully-accurate tribute to the BB -- but, more importantly, to this the uniquely-American genious of Brian Wilson. God Bless you...and YOUR talent!
Great song of artist that made 4 albums, the frst 2 of which were the best. This one comes from Home of the brave. He sang a.o. also The turn of a friendly card by The lan Parson Project.
You've done what many of us would like to do! Tremendous job! Thanks for saying what we all would like to say to Brian. Thanks for the music, the emotion, the love.
A big surprise to me and many thanks - brings a whole new dimension to my track - go to eBay if you're interested in the Chris Rainbow double CD "Anthology".
I love Brian AND Chris. I saw Chris with Camel a long time ago. Camel were better without him, and Chris was WAY better without Camel. Evidence? You are listening to it now. "Dear Brian" is beautiful. "There's thousands more down there like me" - always makes me cry.
Thanks for that info crimsonrush. Anyone heard of Chris Rainbow - Ring Ring? I love that song. Chris's harmonies from that song sound similar to Beach Boys tracks around 1970.
No problem.Kenny interviewed Chris on occasions in the mid 70s and used his voice for jingles. Chris Rainbow sums up all that is great about 70s Brit pop together with bands like Supertramp and Pilot. I think he went further and was ahead of his time. He is hugely influenced by The Beach Boys & even Neil Sedaka abit. "Gimme Just a Little Beat of Your Heart" was a wonderful single. Golden days!!
The first time i heared Christopher Rainbow was on the Kenny Everett prog. (Capitol Radio 1973) What an amazing songwriter! (Apparently he has a terrible stutter when he speaks). The song of his "Solid State Brain" takes me back when i was 18 years old during a warm summer in London. Innocent days!
Wow! I never thought I'd hear Chris Rainbow again. Thank you so much for posting this. If you've got any of his "Looking Over my Shoulder" clips I'd love to see them.
Another band that Chris has had considerable involvement with is the Scottish band Runrig.
In '85 he worked on Body Music; a final weak single.
After a few years of silence he started recording again as a solo performer in 2000, and the result is the album "In a Perfect World" which hit store shelves during the summer of 2001.
Chris sang lead for "The Alan Parsons Project". In 1974, he had embarked on a solo career. "Looking Over My Shoulder" and "Home of the Brave" were his first albums. Five singles followed: "Living in the World Today," "All Night," "Mr. Man," "Give Me What I Cry For," and "Solid State Brain."
Chris Rainbow (Birth name is Chris Harley, born in Glasgow UK Nov. 18, 1946.) "Dear Brian" was simply "A Tribute song to Brian". Chris is a Scottish singer/songwriter much influenced by the Beach Boys
Gorgeous! I love it.
