  • The original was done by Big Mama Thorton - THE definitive version!

    ;-)

  • i am a big fan of Little Richard but Elvis did it better

  • Little Richard the best!

  • Do you guys realize that Elvis wouldn't be the "King of Rock and Roll" if Chuck Berry's drummer played a straight drumbeat instead of a shuffle drum beat in his early songs...plus Little Richard was the first to play true Rock and Roll so he should probably be the King and Elvis was mainly Rockabilly not Rock and Roll but he brought Rock and Roll to the masses. It's kinda hard to say who is the true king

  • I am nor a fan of Elvis or Richard, but Elvis's version is way better.

  • This guy SCREAMS too much. I would much rather listen to Ray Charles or Elvis. As far as this song is concerned, Elvis OWNED this song, HANDS DOWN!

  • They were all great. Why argue? Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Neil Sedaka, well maybe not him, but the others were great. Carl Lee Perkins, Charlie Rich, Johnny Cash,

  • All that argue that one artist is better than the other are not as smart as they think. We all have preferences for one reason or another. The reason Elvis is called the King is because he broke many records and was a pioneer in Rock-n-Roll. He was also way more popular by a wide margin by all ages. There are young people today that know Elvis, but you ask them about Little Richard, you'll get "who is that?!"

  • I like Elvis and Little Richard

  • great version. Is that hendrix playing the guitar solo?

  • Elvis is the king forever and always! Enough said

  • this is one of my favorites

  • great singer

  • @elvis75100 your right man

  • Esquerita was predominately a female impersonator. He and Richard were friends and they wrote a couple of songs together. All this nonsense about people "ripping" off people is just stupid. For the record, Richard's recording career with Don Robey predates Elvis' a little- but that does not make one better than the other. Like another poster said- once a song is published and out there anyone has a right to record and perform it.

  • The true king of Rock N' Roll!

  • Anyone out there know for a fact if Jimi Hendrix is on this recording?

He was a fill-in Upsetter at that time and had toured with Don & Dewey who were full-time members of Richard's group.

    Thanx.

  • I went to a show of Little Richards in the early sixies. It was in the UK at the New Brighton Ballroom. This was on the other side of the Mersey river in an area encompassed by the merseybeat sound. He headlined a show that included some well know groups of the time. He sang this song exactly like this version . When he started shouting you, you, you, he came to the fornt of the stage and pointed at different girls. This got the crowd excited.A great show and the atmosphere was tremendous.

  • YOU! AND YOU! AND YOU! NOT YOU! YOU! YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU AIN'T NOTHING BUT A HOUND DOG!

  • Little Richard Covers Freddie Bells version?? (originally recorded by Big Mama Thornton, reworked for a wider audience (by the authors) and re-recorded by Freddie Bell and The Bellboys) but made famous by Elvis. Interesting then that Little Richard would choose the Freddie Bell / Elvis version over Big Mamas.. Also interesting is that Elvis asked if he could do a version after hearing Freddy Bell and The Bellhops do it and NOT the Big Mamas version as some people might think.

  • Great cover by Little Richard!!!

  • The humor at the beginning makes this a wonderful cover. Little Richard was obviously aware of Big Mama's version (the original) since his lyrics are a mashup of her's and Freddie Bell's. Nice Jerry Lee Lewis style piano comping, too.

  • If Elvis can cover Tutti Futti. Little Richard can cover Hound Dog. I like them both.

  • @1060893 Actually, i'm pretty sure elvis covered little richard's version of hound dog

  • @Bigstl123 Big Mama Thorton was the fist artist to record Hound Dog. Elvis and Little Richard were inspired by her.

  • @1060893

    Very wrong.

  • @justicejayant Hound Dog was writen by Jerry Liber and Mike Stoller. It was first recorded by Big Mamma Thorton. Elvis and Little Richard did their versions later.

  • @1060893

Doesn't means that both of them were inspired by her like you said.

  • @justicejayant If she hadn't of recorded Hound Dog, they wouldn't have heard it.

  • @Bigstl123

No, he covered Freddie Bell's hound dog, and little richard covered Elvis' Hound dog.

  • That's The Worst Version I Ever Heard. Elvis Presley Does It Better

  • Little Richard stole this song! Original is much better. Give it a look.

  • @TheMachine09

How can you steal something if it's available thru the publisher? Anyway, Big mama Thorton and Freddie Bell & The Boys & Elvis did it before Richard, who did an apparent "test" version in the studio in 1956, then cut it in Los Angeles and London, in '64 and '66 respectively.

I also like the live version from the KEEP ON ROCKIN' DVD.

  • You...You...and You...Not you... haha hillarious :p

  • The Beatles were better then this?????? I suppose John Tesh plays better keyboards than Professor Longhair and Tiny Tim played string instruments better then Les Paul.

  • Not so good, Elvis is better, but The Beatles are better than Elvis

  • @merish95

You also seem to think that Jonas brothers are better than all.

  • Elvis was a fake wanna be

  • @bugsycline

'fake wanna be' Right, he wasn't wanna be.

  • i love his version the best.

Little Richard even adds his humor in his songs.

    Awesome.

We can never forget his contributions to Rock n Roll.

  • I will always Prefer Little Richard OVER elvis.. Little Richard is another Artist with GOD GIVEN Talent & has Natural RHYTM & FLOW :)

  • @davidnashley1985 thank u!

  • @davidnashley1985 Depends on the tune - overall, I prefer Chuck Berry over both Elvis and Richard.

  • @davidnashley1985 But Elvis was FIRST! Keep that on mind.

  • @elpablo07 Elvis was First of What? Elvis always ripped off frm Little Richard

  • @davidnashley1985 Elvis recorded Rock and Roll as early as Little Richard, even before Richard recorded RnB...If you don't think Richard "ripped anyone off", do a You Tube search for an artist called Esquerita

  • @davidnashley19...ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes me crazy to hear Elvis called "the King".....anyone with ears who hears Richard and then Elvis and still thinks Elvis is King...well....you are fucking deaf or stupid or both

  • @nicodagger poor boy, had you lunch money stolen again geek

  • @TheOnlyOneKingElvis Elvis still didn't deserve to touch the tip of Little Richard's ass, musically, say what you want. Elvis is only "The Only One King" to ignorant douchebags who wouldn't know real music if it chomped on their skinny little asshole. You little asshole.

  • @nicodagger I have known Richard since 1964, he loves Elvis. I was chatting to him a few months ago about Gene Vincent. Richard on Elvis "he was the new messiah for black artists". 1964 was the first year I met Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley, both huge Elvis fabs, Chuck "they named him right when they named him king"

  • @nicodagger Richard "Elvis wasv the new messiah for black artists"

  • @nicodagger elvis is king but little richerd is god! :)

  • @KeepTrue56 he is the beginning

  • is this elvis cover or original ??

  • the original is by big mama thornton check out her version :P

  • Lively up yourself!!!

  • This is a great version!
