  • All right, to be truthful the movie was complex. That's usually what makes us say it was deep. As in you have to peel a few layers back to understand it. To me they didn't talk about this movie enough. I couldn't enjoy it as much as I'd like because of the subtitles, but I'd see it again. It has all the makings of a cult classic and I find it very innovative.

  • this film is awesome

  • I have to say that this film, while pretty, doesn't have much in it. Contradictory is not deep.

  • @nagfulmar

What do you mean it doesn't have "much in it?" You either don't recognize everything in it, or you're overlooking it. It's an extremely deep movie. Even without noticing the symbolism, the movie itself can be really entertaining. It's certainly more entertaining than some of the other Mamoru Oshii films.

  • i have never seen this movie, but watching videos of the Kenji Kawai Concert lead me here. after seeing this..... i am going to watch this movie, and i think I am going to enjoy it. thumbs up.

  • I have no idea what I watched but I like it. The actress has such beautiful, expressive eyes.

  • i dont get it.

  • I really loved this movie. It had such a unique atmosphere to it..and the music was awesome. Very good sci-fi drama from Poland.

  • Touche!!!

  • the art style reminds me of the recent Deus Ex 3 in the making...

  • Is it just me, or does anyone else listening to the chopping and cooking start thinking of their mom?

  • This movie look RETAR...I can't even complete the word because I can't even finish the clip itself.

  • @CaptainSeato Awful Director???... are you talking about the same guy that made GITS 1 and GITS: Innocence, two of the greatest Cyberpunk films ever made, with fantastic symbolism, deep and heavy subject matter and for realising, and provoking our contemporary concerns of our identity and existence in a society dominated by information technology, where the proliferation of images means we live in an 'unreal' meditated world.

you see, l don't really care about his action sequences.

  • Polish movies are worth watching we just need a little enthusiasm ..the other thing is to show Polish viewers that everything is possible and that Poland is an interesting country thought we do not see it ...his intention was to start a worldlive cultural dialog and thats why he joined two different styles shown the advantages of such aproach

  • actually the scene has another meaning the whole movie has but you need to life in its enviroment to understand it. Mamoru Oshii intentionally made the movie slow paced and used Polish language he didn't do the movie as a Japanese would but instead used Polish technology and made a movie about Polish realities ...he made an effort to show us that everything is possible and that

  • Good movie for an animation director.

  • Du Grand Art.

  • I agree that the coming home scene is the most lingering in the whole movie. I often drift to it in my thoughts when I come home from work. It portrays this gestalt very well, in typical noir comic-art fashion.

  • I thought this movie was about as deep as a kiddie pool and the plot/symbolism was a garbled mess. I like mind bending sci-fi, but this was a poor attempt at it.

  • I do have to mention that I loved Ghost in the Shell.

  • @cclodfe l won't say it's a poor attempt, In my opinion it's just heavy, alot like Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

  • @1shoryuken

Heavy? I thought it was childish and poorly thought out. It reminded me of a M. Night Shyamalan movie. Trying to make things deep or mind-bending with a twist here and there. It is sad IMO that these plot twists are considered to be deep or heavy nowadays. This movie was absolutely horrible. I feel as though two hours of my life were robbed from me and I will never get them back.

  • my opinion is that i think that the music is best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ma talent do krojenia

  • best part !!

    PERFECT

  • it is really the best part of the movie.

Thank you for uploading this. I was searching for the exact episode.

  • yeah, the wtf moment of the movie :)

  • the chow's ready but where's the eater? damn crap for a hyper action reality let's just face the fact of reality not virtually reality.

  • A very stunning movie overlooked by many.

  • I don't get this movie tried waited to see it 9years but wen i got my hands on it my feeliings on this movie is like... Nothing... So what is this movie about she is living in a fake world then she learns from the guy at the end that her life's fake? Also the ending pisses me of, she point the gun on the ghost then what? Did she killed the ghost and won the game which in fact was reality? If the game is reality so what about the dog and the car driver? What this scene is trying to say us? :/

  • @mjshikeli

The movie is full of symbolism and in fact, these are all questions that without knowing what the symbolism is, that you're suppose to be thinking when you watch the movie.

To explain the movie would ruin it... and spoil it here for other people reading the comments. In a nutshell though, the whole movie boils down to your own perception of reality, and what reality you chose to be in.

  • @mjshikeli its a perfect ending and i think she choose the virtual reality in the end with the real life she cant deal but thats what i see in the end. Maybe im wrong.

Another thing is maybe she killed the ghost, but why should there stand welcome to avalon in the end. So my first idea was she choose the non real world insteat.

  • I love this sequence.. Captures the mood of the movie so well.

  • Meatbag didn't notice that she prepaired food for dog.

    But there was no dog...

  • this is Wrocław city (Poland)

  • what an utterly SAD and magnificent moment, masterfully made by master genius Mamoru Oshii and scored by second master genius composer Kenji Kawai

  • Comment removed

  • Incredible moment, full of philosophy and sadness.

  • boring?? just chopping veggies?? just because you two lack attention span and ability to not see this scene with it's poetic symbolism. You have got to watch films in different perspectives to fully appreciate the meanings.

go back to yor michael bay movies...Boom crash sunsets, tits, ka-ching, little pink house for you and me muthafuckas.

  • wtf??? if this is the best part of the movie then thanxs i did not buy the movie today at the mixup, it looks soooo boriiing

  • @Tezcatlipoca1984 Your just fag, this part portrays your life perfectly, sad.

  • @meatbag77

Keep on trying, baby... Maybe one day...

    Maybe not!

  • @bmizio Is that your lame attempt to troll back at him? you are pathetic dude....You suck major cock lol just kill yourself you dumb fuck...

  • @bmizio

I agree with meatbag77. "Most important" =/= "best".

  • @meatbag77

    you did't understand the movie

  • omg...the vegetal on the table...simply amazing... a masterpiece.

  • @meatbag77 WE GOT A DUMB ASS

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

  • This scene really is beautiful. It's the first time we, as an audience can really step into the shoes of the people who play Avalon, because it contrasts that world with the 'real' one that we can relate to. We can see why they play so obsessively, we can see how it can cause you to question what is real and what isn't, and possibly, how it no longer matters.

  • My favorite scene aswell.. It really makes you think.. :)

  • The mood of the moive, which intends to blur the line between reality and virtual world, really creepied me out in the beginning, but now I am learning how to appreciate this.

  • 3:12 mmmm. Wonderful, tasty bigos! Omnomnomnomnom.

Anyway, this is great CP noir movie, but also it's very expressive.

  • One of my favorite movies of the past 10 years, together with The Good German, Den Untergang and The talented Mr? Ripley. I've seen it many times, and I'm still amazed about how beautifully Film Noir elements and SF parts were blended together. And ooooo, the superb sound track !!!! I know it's a cliché used quite easily on Imdb, but this reallu is a completely overlooked, underrated gem !

    Ben Vanhees Belgium

  • les lunettes lui donne un air cochon !! j'adore ! et la bouffe a l'air bonne !!!!!!!

  • guys, YOU seem to have real PROBLEMS ! who CARES what food she eats there! dont you realize its the beauty of solitude, simple things here AND that gorgeous music? Whilst you westernly spoiled nihilists only only only think about fucking EATING you dorks !

  • This is the Avalon - Ultimate spolier biatch!

  • No, it's not any specific dish, just rice&cabbage, did she prepare it for a dog?

  • This is probably gonna sound stupid, but I always wondered if that dish she's cooking.. well, is it a traditional polish dish or something? Anyone knows? And I agree with what someone said here, this video made me get hungry! Lol.

  • Did anybody else realize something about how the food in the movie is portrayed? If you look closely at the food served in the cafeteria scene, it looks grey and lumpy and devoid of colour whereas here the food looks sumptuous and succulent, and colourful in stark contrast to the ominous sepia-toned apartment that Ash lives in and the world of Avalon as a whole. Probably one of the most powerful and thought-provoking yet subtle and almost melancholic scenes in the entire movie :D

  • I felt the food to be a symbol of the real/sensual world that Ash is disconnected from...just like her dog represents her 'real' self (she's eating dog biscuits lying on her bed earlier) that she puts care into creating a meal for after she meets Stunner and he reminds her of her past relationships...only to find it's too late, the dog has disappeared without her realising.

    Such an intensely textured film.

  • I've seen this movie 12 times and loved it every single time...Now I'm ready to watch it once more and I'm sure I'll enjoy it again....Mamoru Oshii is a genius !!!

  • OMG 0:54 that picture.

  • This is ht ebest part....There's food.

  • The scenes where they eat meals are pretty "intense". That way that male character ate his food was pretty... mesmerizing.

  • Yeah, that scene is great, isn´t it? I think it´s a good way to express the context of their lives.

  • This is the kind of movie which of i like to let my mind "slip away"

    This movie is a masterpiece

  • :( now I'm sad

  • omg this clip made me really hungry

  • I love the cinematography.

  • Beautiful Dreamer(1984) is the best one among Oshii's many masterpieces.

He should be as appreciated as Miyazaki.

  • I'm quite a fan of Oshii, and you reminded me I've yet to see this one. Do you think I'd need to watch the show or the first movie beforehand to appreciate it, or should I skip right ahead?

  • i havent seen this movie in so long.

  • this movie is so beutiful

  • it certainly is an intriguing scene. I have never seen the movie, but certainly plan to. I can really dig slow paced movies where you have to THINK, instead of just watching blood and guts and gore and sex.

  • It's the best part because this is the moment she realises that the world she accepts as real, isn't. The fact that the dog has gone missing in her locked flat, contrasted with the reassuring "realness" of the food.

    Welcome to Avalon.

  • yes but one thing contradicts your theory. it is the desapearence of the dead body in the level special a

  • I see no contradiction - the fact that Class Special A is not real does not make this level real either. When Murphy dies we cannot follow him - but he may show us that the only way to win the game is not to play. We cannot follow Ash either - does she shoot the Ghost? If so does that end the game, or reset it? Or is it a form of suicide? The final words "Welcome to Avalon" I think is a challenge to the audience to live. Rich in symbolism, this film keeps many of its secrets.

  • hmm yes thats sounds logicaly i think you are right.

but by the way, there is noch f***ing reason to rat my former coment negative

  • I didn't rate your comment negative.

  • i konow that this was someone elese the last part was going to thies unknown person

  • I agree with the perception. I think the whole movie is part of the game but then the ending kept me thinking...what next?

  • Midori: PERFECT.

  • @bmizio

Ash doesn't realize it at the point. The director was trying to show the viewer this through the symbolism, bust she doesn't reach this realization. She doesn't realize perceived reality until the speech with Murphy at the end. Even then she really doesn't know if she is in the "real" world. Murphy digitizes when shot and the ghost appears so obviously she was not in reality. The ghost being a construct of the game appearing at the end proves this. This movie sucked btw.

  • @MidoriNoSaru

    Thank You---Yes

  • you ar stupid. this movie is art an when you can't understand it its your problem but do not blame a great movie for your incompetence.

  • Polisj GITS, lol. It's amazing that the glimpse of polish 80's can be so exotic for Japanese people. I eat bigos and travel the same kind of tram to work once a week. If you live in the reality, you call it lame,if you are a foreigner, you think it's poetic. Geee, I wonder why nobody gave Oshii the reward for portraying the polish depression, lmao.

  • Well, you have it: the view through somebody else's eyes. Appresiate, instead of complaining.

  • Moviegoers today expect only surface entertainment value from science-fiction, that's why Avalon is so often overlooked.

It does amaze me that people label Oshii a "boring" director, in spite of all the absolutely stunning action sequences he's created over the years. It really goes to show what a sad era of hyper-violent cinema we live in when a movie like Ghost in the Shell is considered "too slow."

  • wow. I have to agree. Oshii is one of the most under appreciated directors. The fact that he used polish actors and orchestra is also quite unique. Eastern europe is oft looked down upon as the gutter of europe however They apparently have the abillity with perserverance to still make some true art.

  • @Dvon5000 what zakren(czyli po hiszpańsku skurwiel)

  • @Dvon5000

Not our fault that Oshii's an awful director who only gets a pass from most of his supporters because he makes nice action sequences that feature decently attractive women.

  • this movie was avesome

  • how is this the best part???

  • Pour moi c'est un film extraordinaire. Mamoru Oshii a su creer un film d'un genre completement nouveau (entre autre l'effet DOMINO utilisé pour l'image). Respect!

  • Agree. And the movie is so intriguing... and complex. Great peace of art

  • It's such a sad scene... but i love the whole movie, especially the music.
