isn't it possible that maybe Sybil thinks that her illness is getting worse because...she's finally seeing what her illness is and didn't know what it was the whole time...and now she's seeing how deep and intense her illness is...and the more she sees how terrible her illness is, the worse she thinks she's getting? Is that possible? Or is she saying "this is getting worse" because she's getting to the suicide point where Martha is manipulating her that way?
@sweetanita0687 I think your first thought is probably closer to the reality--Sybil is actually getting better as Dr. Wilbur helps her unravel and confront her past, but the revelations are so devastating for her (in this scene the discovery of her hidden selves, aspects of her personality) that she thinks she is getting worse. Her memories were so painful that her selves kept or buried them; the unearthing of them is terribly frightening for her, understandably. So heartbreaking.
that's good to know that the movie inspires you to seek that profession, and it's okay you spelled it wrong the first time, but you should know it is spelled "psychiatrist" :-)
I remember the first time I saw this film - I was totaly Gobsmacked - amazing the Human Condition - In order to survive trauma the mind/intellect call it what you will - introduces what is necessary to stop "The Personality" from disintegrating. Fascinating Story.
I know its an odd question but anyone know which mozart she's playing there?
