I am sorry to say the comparison is far from being perfect. Mongolia is a different country and race quite dissimilar to Tibet. Same go with Ireland, it is a separate country with unique culture, religion and traditions different from the UK. Study the history and you will see the differences.

The real Shangri La is in the western edge of Sichuan, not Tibet. The comunist government of China won't even talk to Dalai Lama, nevermind giving up any ground. Who ever report got to research more.

mercedesci, YOU need to do more research, Shangrila is a fictional place imagined by a Western author. For tourist purposes the Chinese government renamed a county to Shangrila in Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Dechen (Yunnan).

The legend itself came from Kunlun Mountains' myths, which located near Hotan, Xinjiang. Communist's Shangri La, Yunnan, was created in 2001. Since Shangri La is a creation of the book, the location should be the one that is referencing by the book, not the one that was chosen by Chinese political reasons.
