  • Korean kendo is not beautiful. I think korean doesn't understand about Kendo's essence. Bcs, the samurai's culture did not exist in Korea. 気=「Spirit」, 剣=「Swordmanship」, 体=「Stance and Posture」, It is set to Ippon only after these elements are in agreement. Korean kendo has the bad balance of these elements. bcs, its not beautiful.

Korean change all the martial art into an insincere sport.

    Kendo,Judo,Karate,Aikido..etc..

  • not sure if srs

  • Other guy hit his fucking left kote because he's doing a faggot blocking move all the time. That's a good call imo. And all you internet kendo masters needs to stop acting like you know more about zanshin than these world championship judges.

  • @lamyunholic I really don't think calling someone a "faggot" is in the spirit of kendo.

  • @FellBlade9 Sure. Because posting a video of questioning judge's call and asking for sympathy on Youtube is. Not to mention all these idiots throughout the entire comment page.

  • @lamyunholic if all of the other kids jumped off a bridge...

  • @FellBlade9 Oh nose, did I jump off the bridge? O whew. I'm still alive. I was just posting shit on Youtube. Whew.

  • @lamyunholic Watch out for the bridge trolls under there ;D

  • @178REIJI

    引き小手は一本にはなるけど、これはない( ;´Д`)ただの当てっこスポーツだ(−_−#)

  • これは有り得んだろーwww

  • ひきながらの籠手は高校生の試合でも一本になりません。

  • All the 7th dan judges gave ippon. They have better understanding of what an ippon should be and they are in better viewing positions than anyone here watching a poor quality video. I admit, its not the greatest kote but I think what went for the korean kenshi is that he was able to draw out a defensive posture from the other player with his aggression and take kote at that same instant.

  • これで一本なら、ほとんどの試合で一本になっちまうなw

  • 誤審

  • I actually think he hit kote , very lightly, but with no figthing spirit.

  • The guy in black is like "...wut?" Also, it seemed like a clean hit to me. I know very little about kendo rules, so forgive my ignorance. I guess it looked different in person.

  • o cmon thats bullshit

  • これは、一本ではないでしょう

  • i dont why did red win?

  • That one was coincidence, not ippon of ki-ken-tai icchi. There are always too many misjudges in WKC.

  • I don't get it....what exactly just happened? I didn't see an ippon.

  • @DJDesikari hiki kote

  • これ一本なんですか?

    氣剣体が一致してないと思うのですが…

  • @kitazawayuzi me either

  • What's so funny about hitting the opponents right kote?

  • @driftboy17 It was a dirty move

  • @vidfreak101 no it wasnt lol

  • What the heck? The judges totally s**k. (@_@)

  • Did Red actually hit the Do? Lame Ippon if you ask me...

  • @shotangone he got kote

but he hit that to trying to get out but it ended up being a point xD

unintentional but ippon is ippon and shinpan wa shinpan

  • he hit his right kote

  • @TheDarkSide... "zanshin" is essentially a ready position--are you standing in a guarded, alert stance. If not--bad zanshin.

Regarding the video... yup, it's hard to see, but we have a strike to the cote (arm/forearm)... and whether or not there is Tamashii (fight spirit)... uh, hmm, I don't know. I wasn't there. :) Video doesn't say much for this--hard to know.

  • I guess if you were to think of this as a real match with actual katanas, the guy in the blue gi would be like "huh? where'd my forearm go?"

Well << assuming that the cut was strong enough to cut off his forearm lol

  • im a karate practitioner and kendo is attracting my attention. i dont know much about it so, i want to know. why is that guy wearing a white gi instead of a black one?

  • It's just to distinguish between the nationalities of the two fencers. The fellow with the white gi and black striped hakama is Korean. I think the other fellow is Japanese.

  • Its just a matter of preference. Like how some judokas wear blue gis and some wear white. But I've been told men generally wear the dark blue and women wear the white... Its not like a rule though.

  • the black stripe means he's on the korean national team.

  • In some schools a white hakama is worn by someone considered a master in the style. But I have no idea if that is what's going on here.

  • in kendo white normally means for girls.

    but korean men dig it.

  • Not exactly.

White gis is used by girl on tournament.

There is a famous kendo university in Japan named KOKUSHI-KAN in Tokyo where all kendo : men and women dig a white one.

  • Once i had the opportunity to do a kokenshiai against Kokushikan students (unfortunatelly my fight was a tie :p). But the point is that they were all wearing blue kendogi.

  • That and older Japanese kendoka do too. Usually they're big into their Koryu school too

  • In Kendo, you can either wear white or blue. Men usually just wear the dark blue keikogi. Women wear all blue, all white, or White with blue hakama/pants.

High ranking senseis usually wear all white to show their high status. Some schools, beginners have to wear white top, blue pants to show they are beginners. Mostly, it's a matter of preference but all blue is your best bet.

  • the korean national team usually always wears white at international tournaments its just wat they do

y they do it im not sure and im korean lol

    hope this helps

  • i think koreans r the only ones to wear white at tournaments

i got a chance to meet the korean team and it was a once in a lifetime chance amazing what u get to learn from them

  • @pakhoon Learn?? no way, Korean just like to do dirty moves, and they show themselves arrogant on Shiai and Keiko, I do not take any good from them. Or maybe I never found a good Korean Kendo(Gumdo) kenshi.

  • *_*¡ mmmm...?

  • the guy in black looks confused XD "what? what happened?"

  • I think this can be considered ippon.

I mean, the white dressed guy doesn't complete his strike, but the other one had no reaction whatsoever, so the strike WOULD actually hit if it had been completed - hence being an ippon. No?

  • haha

    ghost strike!!

  • Well you know some times you hit and are not ipon, others do not hit and are ipon. :S

The Referee says who win and loose.

  • i hate white gi and hakama -.-

  • Haha, why??? White gi is good. Back in the day, Samurai wore white gis under their armor, in Japan white gi is funeral dress. So by wearing a white gi to battle, this means your ready for your funeral AKA, your willing to do or die! =D

    Respect the WHITE GI!!!!!!!

  • yes, i know that, but i still don't like it :D

  • I hate black stripes in the hakama

  • yeah, it doesn't look nice.

i think that he should wear matching, white bogu.

    that's just my opinion.

    but whatever, kendo rocks xD

  • Actually that ippon hit my left fingers which made a really nice sound so I can understand why the two judges gave him an ippon but the judge on the bottom left understood that it was not a clean ippon. The Korean kenshi did get a clean ippon before so either which way I probably would have lost but it was a bit discouraging to go out like that. I did receive the fighting spirit award and placed in the top 16 so I was pretty happy anyway. Thanks for everyone's comments though!

  • @kuni420 but there was no kiai. I still believe that was misjudgment.

  • Comment removed

  • OMFG!!! LMAO!!! I would be so pissed if this happened to me. Such a cheap shot.

  • That guy was like "wtf???"

    xDDD

  • To me this seems a proper ippon. Left kote is an effective target when it's above shoulder height. However, I strongly disagree with the point that people with lower rank can't even discuss about these issues. It reminds me of rotten Asian traditions like "Elders are always right."

  • he's probably like WTH what happened

  • I definitely hear him saying 손목이야, and that was a good hiki-kote that was well timed. I'm sure these judges are far more qualified than any of you kendoka are. When you become 7th or 8th dan, then you can criticize their judging.

  • If you also watch carefully, he moves forward slightly when he hits the hiki-kote, then shoots backwards. He does have fumi-komi, but it's not a very big step. I feel like novices at kendo expect fumi-komi to be big and exaggerated, but kendoka at this level have much faster fumi-komis that do not go that high above the ground. There was clear zanshin for a hiki-waza, and he is already prepared to continue. Why is this a funny ippon?

  • the korean guy hit the opposite Kote? I mean theleft hand

  • wtf did the white guy hit kote?

  • Bitter für den Japaner, alle drei Punktrichter werden Koreaner gewesensein ^^

    ärgelich...ich hätte anders reagiert.

  • The one in black is like "what the hell..... he didnt hit me....."

  • Korean Kendo players who representative their nation, should wear that with/black uniform at the International Match...(even they dont' want to)

  • I don't get it....did I miss his kiai and zanshin? How was it a point?

  • Wow... that was weird...

  • Hiki kote... kinda weak and no zanshin but the shimpan gave it to him. That's shiai for ya.

  • hand got hit...

  • Huh? That was a point?

  • I had to see 2 times before understand: the one in white slowly puts his shinai in the forehead of the one in black. It was very strange, indeed.

  • O.o... that was not a men hit at all. look at the angle and form of his arms when he hits he was going for the right kote. and ya this point was wack

  • BTW the other kendoka is American.

  • Poor zanshin and kikentai in my opinion.

  • xD yeah.. it seemed to me as if he was like

"hmm..let me try the kote" *whacks the kote*

    IPON!

    ._.; "huh? it counted? sweet."

  • exactly!

no fumikomi.. no kiai.. wtf was that?

  • for me there would be NO POINT ...

  • dude the Korean guy didnt even realise that he had the point LOL

  • personally, a good kote should leave an imprint. The Japanese Kendoka had no idea that the other guy got a point off of him because he didn't even feel it. His reaction should have been enough to not give the point to the other Kendoka.

  • Agreed. Most ippon are taken either after unsettling the opponent's kamae or the point itself unsettles it.

  • can't really tell if its a clean hit from the quality of this video, but regardless no zanshin...

lol was funny reaction from japanese though

  • Japanese? :O

  • Koreans wear the white with the black stripe while japanese wear the indigo color

  • Whats zanshin?

  • Geez, that was fast!

  • i def think that is a clean hit

  • Mega LOL! Fast and powerful! Koshi!

  • NANII? That was a HORRIBLE call on the judges part.

  • Comment removed

  • im sorry for you dude. i know how it feels to get bad calls. but that one was blatantly a miss.

  • I dont see wahts so funny... other than the guy's WTF kinda look around.

  • Comment removed

  • それ俺だよ!韓国の選手が俺の左手にあたって一本になりました。悲しかったよ!世界選手権にこうゆうレベルの審判みっともない。

  • funny

    残心もなけりゃ当たってもいない。

    これを一本と言えるやつは修行しなおせ。

  • wtf?!

    nice....

  • Not the best zanshin, but he had the right idea pulling a hiki kote.

  • to be honest, to me that point looks good.

the person backed off as the korean player hits the hiki kote..

  • oh shoot looking back he did mean to cut it. maybe we didn't hear the kiai..but yeah...after looking at it 5 times..i don't think it's a funny at all lol the guy in the white who got kote knew exactly what he was doing.

  • it is..where's the kiai ? the zanshin ? it didn't even look like he meant to cut it.

  • imagine the guy who paid $5k to compete and lost to a cheap shot. fak.

  • not really a cheap shot...

  • Didn't hear the hit OR the kiai... Shoudn't have been an ippon AT ALL.

  • if you look good he didnt hit the kote thats why they where both shoked at the ipon, and also probly why he didnt bother to show good zanshin. bad calls happed

  • Clear point. And very nice too.

I don't see anything odd about the Korean looking around for the flags. No one waits around to see if they made a point, you do your cut and you keep fighting. That's the whole point of zanshin, stay ready!

You aren't there to look at flags.

  • That's such a clean ippon. I don't know if you guys ever had such that hiki kote. Although Korean guy didn't realize he got a point, the judges been reacted by the instinct.

  • eslee --> ROFL!!!

  • @eslee BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @eslee BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • The guy didnt even realise what happened ha ha ha

  • The shiro guy was going backwards, so the zanshin didn't have to be longer.

  • Aww! hahaha he had no idea he lost that ippon!

  • No zanshin at all - THAT is why it shouldn't have been an ippon. Plain and simple. It was a grat kote, he just didn't have any zanshing at all really.

  • WTF is funny about that? A clean ippon, I don't get it.

  • It was a clear Do hit. deadly fast and accurate, but a very light hit. i would not have awarded the point, because it was far too light, hits should be with proper kiai and force and give a firm hit. the idea is to kill or seriously weaken/destroy opponents spirit with 1 hit.

  • Where is this sport being played and why are there lots of people shouting?

  • What is this sport is it like fencing?

  • lol even the korean guy is like 'wtf'

  • what, did you get beat by a bunch of korean kids in kendo or something? every kendo video i watch on youtube, you have your korean bashing comments, which leads me to think that you have some sort of superiority complex. grow up, son. you gotta accept the fact that there are people better than you out there

  • wtf lol xD

  • well .... lol whatever the shimpan say goes lol =P

  • bro do u guys know what happened? the white guy hit kote and the fucking refs gave red a point...................wtf...........

  • Idiot boy - the guy in the white dogi was the red player. Check out the tasuki on his do himo.

  • i dint know..this point is debatable...it looks like he didnt finish his hit. He just stood there after he hit it. But he DID hit it though....

  • if he was sure he was going to hit it... and he seems like he did.. its a point as long as you "strike with your mind" you can tell he knew got the point cuse he didn't do anything else after he striked. i dont see anything funny about it but i want to learn how to do it.

  • Nah, just cuz he moved back doesn't mean anything. He didn't move back with conviction that he got the point. You could see that he was surprised he got the point. Again, no zanshin.

  • There was zanshin. He moved back a couple of steps and then forward into chudan no kamae ready to go again without any break in his focus.

Most people equate long follow throughs and loud shouts with zanshin, which is simply not the case.

  • In any case I think this is not a valid ipon.

  • Why not? He demonstrated zanshin for his hiki kote by going in to katsugi and making a big step back. Then he went into chudan no kamae and was again searching the contact with his aitei´s kensen. Search for the video Eiga vs. Sato on the 51 Tozai Takai, would you give an ippon for Sato San´s hiki kote?

  • Is the sound od this video out of sync?

  • That sure was weird. It must have been an amazing hit for them to give it without zanshin.
