I always wonder why unions are such a concern in the US! all the German VW plants have strong unions, and they are very productive. where is the problem?
Most American manufactures don't like Unions. Unions mean less control over their workforce as well as higher labor costs. Unions are a mixed bag in the US. US manufacturers like outsourcing to china and staff US facilities with illegal immigrants, while Unions have hurt their members by putting companies out of business with their ridiculous work rules and benefits; like the UAW. So as a general rule of thumb new manufacturing in the US generally goes to states that are against unionization.
VW management has stated that this plant will be a 'UNION SHOP'
MISMANAGEMENT of the BIG 3 is what got Detroit into trouble to begin with! Not the UAW!

it has to they chose a southern state where unions are less of a concern than they ever were near Pittsburgh
