I saw them probably ten times in the 1980's with 2-3 different lineups, but the one with Kelly was by far the best. I thought she absolutely kicked ass and she looked a treat, too. RIP Kelly.

Girlschool did not have A lead singer - all three girls upfront sang lead although Kim McAuliffe was the main vocalist. And she is still with us. Make sure you pick up the first 2 GS albums - brilliant stuff! Especially 'Hit & Run.'

Demolition woke me up to music - If starting out today would be massive - all the back catalogue stands the test of time. Kelly very underestimated as a lead player and musician. I did some recording at the same studio with Vic Maile, he was diabetic and would fall asleep sometimes at the desk. All the 2 inch mastertapes would be around and we'd happily read the boxes and find out that for example Motorhead by Motorhead was recorded there.

If you think they are metal then they are metal, I've known the band a lon long time and they have never been metal, but I can't be bothered arguing. Girlschool ARE Original and like all GREAT bands don't belong to any genre, tags like Metal and Punk were created by lazy journalists in an atempt to pigeonhole bands and create SCENES. Girlschool were around at the same time and were tagged as metal/punk and yes they are influenced by hard rock and Punk bands but they are far better than that!!
