  • Le Génie russe.

  • hey they ripped this from necrophagist

  • I would LOVE to choreograph a dance to this masterpiece!

  • @michellegeering I know this might sound random...

But I'm of Indian Descent and whenever I hear the "Dance of the Knights", I can picture it being accompanied by Indian Classical Dances.....weird...

I guess anyone would love to choreograph a dance on this Soundtrack...

  • It honestly feels more powerful in Caligula

  • This is a ridiculously quick tempo, battle on fastforward.

  • NECROPHAGIST!!!!

  • nul

  • One word: Caligula

  • @bjnboy What about Caligula?

  • @bjnboy Do you mean that the music reminds you of Camus's Caligula ?

  • @emimichan007

No, part of it was used as the opening theme for the 1979 movie "Caligula" with Malcolm McDowell.

  • I love the quicker tempo

  • I love the anger in this! Does anyone know another piece as angry as this?

  • this is hell on earth, this is apocalyspe

  • I HAPPEN TO LIKE THIS TEMPO!

  • nothing like Prokofiev. the best///

  • beaucoup trop rapide ! quel dommage !

  • music of the soul...soul healing..soul feeding

  • this song is epic!

  • Too fast! Lost the dramatism

  • @AliciaDupres

    it suppose to be fast.

  • WTF is this motherfuckin' static image?

  • Al principio queda uno un poco desconcertado. Las versiones usuales van más despacio. Luego toma un interesante aire cinematográfico. Saludos.

  • Gergiev must be taking this faster for a concert performance, rather than for the actual ballet. Doesn't seem that this tempo characterizes what is happening at this point of the ballet. It comes across as fury and anger rather than pompous arrogance and hautiness at a ball.

  • eso0 es lo0 mejo0r del mundo0o amo0 es so0ng

  • magnificent. Once in your heart and soul, never fogotten. As it should be with masterpieces, our treasure yours and mine

  • spent 2 hours trying to find out what this song is called, definately worth it

  • @mrpitchf0rk

i like eleanor rigby also very much, but this is beautiful too!

  • ЛЮБЛЮ МУЗЫКУ ПРОКОФЬЕВА!!!

  • @konstantin523 Я люблю картофель и мидии слишком

  • I Caligula Cesar command in the name of the Senate and the people of Rome....

  • tbh i prefer a fast version like this to a slower one like the ballets, i mean it still has the same effect and everything its just catchier to do it faster IMO

  • this sounds amazing :) i love it

  • i sounds very russian as if it were communist it used to be on a matalan advert here in england and the advert was themed on the soviet union

  • i am playing this piece on the violin, it's not that hard.

  • I like your comment. I don't know if I have a "greatest"piece of music, but there is nothing for me, that has quite the passion and power of this piece of music.

  • This is the greatest composition of all time, in my opinion... of course.

  • ummmmm you have a point.

  • Haha you must be joking "mrpitchf0rk". I sense that you have much to learn :)

  • You are arrogant and patronizing and I will not waste my time with you.

  • hahaha dumbass ;)

  • "herp derp my intelligence is three so all i can do is insult people derp"

    -you

  • @StephenMcCabeMusic Glad you like it. So do I, but there are far greater works out there. Do some listening.

  • @StephenMcCabeMusic I agree fully and totally with you about this music

  • I love it!!!

  • sunderland afc music :P

  • J'adore!!!!!!!!!!!

  • J'adore!!!

  • truly, there have only been few pieces like this, that convey such huge amounts of emotion through the use of music.

it's as if the composer wanted to make a musical cutaway the bitterness & hatred of the rival families in the play.plain tawesome.

  • I had to play this today haha

    its a fun piece

  • What instrument?

  • Violin.

Is was really hard to play. Half of it is in 8th and 9th position lol

  • I used to play violin, so I actually understand what that means. xD

    It definitely sounds hard.

  • I enjoy it when you have to play in high positions like that. I makes you both more confident and comfortable on the fingerboard.

  • more like you have to be confident to be able to play it

  • @DezparE

    Of course :)

  • I love this music, so full of energy and anger! The Montagues and the capulets at war. A masterpiece!

  • Fantastic

    One of my new favourites

  • Iam i wrong or this been speeded up a little? Doesnt sound right....

  • theres 2 versions of s song, one which most orchestras will play is this version IE the 'fast' version, and then theres the actual ballet version which is slowed down to normal speed and to be honest i prefer the slower one gives the bass more time to develop and u can appreciate it more

  • Magnifique !

  • SUBLIME

  • Fantastic. I was humming this tune yesterday as i prepated to leave for town. as i started the car and put the radio on the same tune was playing. Many times old music has played i my ears

  • i like this version because i like walking to this.

  • This version is of a higher speed than the piece was meant to be. I prefer the original version, but this isn't too bad either.

  • Gorgeus! =)

  • j'adore!

  • This song is suppost to go slower cuz its Andante. but its still great! im playing it in my orchestra! :-D

  • I can't tell you how much I love this music :D We're doing it in my orchestra!!

  • thanks for the vid. love prokofiev!

  • is it too fast? I think it should be slower...

  • Are those dancers ok? It looks like they have the shakes...

  • I have to say that I saw a faster version, much like this, in October of '08 with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with Bright Sheng conducting. It was quite an experience that I won't forget. I think both versions are definitely acceptable for different reasons. Personally, the faster version to me feels better.

  • alan irvines a twat

  • waste of a good video they should have the dancing!!!!!!!!!

  • thats the Royal New Zealand Ballet the picture!!!

  • the orchestra plays too fast...

  • Don't know why you got a negative...

  • Well, my opinion is that i've heard other slower versions. So, maybe i am more use to those. For me, the slower pace makes the music more dramatic and pronounced.

  • Agreed.

The slower is more powerful. I enjoy the slower much more.

  • It's amazing how such a martial opening fits in so well with the conflict of this piece. A sublime introduction.

  • I do more like a less classic version.

  • too fast i think.

  • its always played like this.

  • not always, you can find some others here on youtube;-)

  • I agree too fast, its much more powerful slower

  • i have to say i really love this speed

  • its always played like this.

  • princesschat: No, it isn't. Check out the 1985 version from the Royal with Alessandra Ferri, or the later version at La Scala. It's much slower.

  • Woah, the music is WAY too fast. It loses it's power like this.

  • i think u should enjoy the slow versions then. it might be nice for some to enjoy a faster more furious version of this masterpiece.

  • Mme swieciki uczy mnie z tego fajne ale wszystko zapomnialam

  • Err, it's not anger, I was just making an observation :)

  • hihi :)

I think i should listen to the other version anyway ... ^^

  • My god, did the conductor had to be home in time for dinner?? wtf

  • Come - on ! Why so much anger against this way of playing this piece? =P

  • @lyrocati bacause it's tooooo fast and it lose it's power and magnificence

  • @lyrocati You've probably heard the tempos which seem to be demanded by the dancers; I prefer the more forward moving tempo myself.

  • im gunna agree with you there, its like hes not enjoying it, its so fast you cant absorb and savour it. I went to the Royal New zealand ballet performance of R n J recently and i thought they did a marvelous job.

  • @Pollemflux no he leaved his car parked in a tow away zone

  • @Pollemflux you know what, i totally agree with you.

  • @Pollemflux

    hahahahahha!

  • @Pollemflux I think the tempo is just perfect, I like it like that.

  • Ill be the one to say it... Both speeds are AMAZING. Both give such different moods. Depends on the choreographer too, right? So... THERE.

  • i have downladed this movie it give my just music not video is there are two version music and movie can some tell where ican find moive i have downloaded it for bit torrent

  • I'm afraid I can't advice you anything... I had no idea there was a movie adaptated from this ballet. I look forward to knowing if so !

  • I prefer this speed of that music. It's awesome. And i think this is the original one. :)

  • I'm glad we agree =D

  • FAT SPEED

  • to fast!

  • This is the correct speed

  • i agree, i like it a bit slower <3

  • necrophagists brillant version of this musn't be missed

  • Fantastic

  • I came across this melody when i was watching a documentary on my fav band 'the smiths', they usto play this to the audiance before they took to the stage. It is utterly amazing i love it! :) empowering to a degree

  • The Smiths rule!

  • It is simply wonderful....

  • One of the best melodies in the world!

    Thx for uploading.

  • sorry I did not mean to rate this posting; I did something wrong. I love this fragment very much.
