@BladeReviewscom But I do think it's interesting to see Genesis behind the scenes - I'm considering upgrading to it or some other premium theme so thanks for that.
My understanding of Genesis is that it separates the design of your site from the basic framework. The ability to change the appearance (i.e. the colour of the sidebars) etc. would be within the child theme - whereas this video looks at the parent theme.
The advantage of the parent / child approach is that the theme can be upgraded without the loss of any changes you may make to your site via the child theme.
These are all edits you need to make to your CSS stylesheet. No theme will let you do it out of the box.
