Damn, those creators, they won't admit to us, the fans what's the final fate of Misa aka. Lisa, Hikaru aka. Rick, and Minmay's because they didn't want to make a true sequel to Macross and stick us with teasers from Macross Plus, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier. Don't they know voice actresses and actors don't stay young and any replacements will have a big problem of filling their shoes. Fans are picky.

by the original english ver you're referring to robotech, i agree with you. reba west, the voice for minmay, was whiny awful. actually, what i'm referring to is minmay in the movie, which is where this clip is taken from. when you read the words to this song, how can you not feel bad for her?

I enjoy Mari Iijima's voice and her songs more than the songs in the newer animes, but these are only bloody cartoon characters. You can get REAL japanese girls as long as you're not Black.

DYRL was much more similar to SDF Macross series but however the DYRL movie was actually a good story line for the macross universe if it weren't for the movie the other macross series wouldn't be made however Lyne Minmay ftw i like ranka and sheryl too but Lyne Minmay is way better

After rewatching this series (currently going through a marathon of Macross--now on Macross 7 after completing Macross: DYRL and Macross Plus Movie/4-part series) I feel that this series is by far the most memorable series (which btw, I really prefer DYRL's story telling over the series strangely enough--I guess I'm shallow about the animation). I also agree that Misa and Hikaru belong to each other, and Minmay should belong to everyone else. She's a wonderful entertainer though :-).

the movie also does away with a bunch of the corny elements in the series which made it quite obviously a 70s/80s anime. the DYRL storyline is much more modern. Still though, I found the TV series much more charming, and the characters much more developed.

True, DVitamin. It's a shame though it's a little underrated by today's standards.

The kids today don't know real anime, they're more into Naruto and Bleach which are hideously overrated. As soon as I become a father, Macross is the first anime I'm going to show to my children, in it's ORIGINAL, UNEDITED form. robotech is basically Macross-lite for wimps.

The original Macross is one of my favorite sci-fi anime ever.

I myself enjoy naruto and bleach..but it doesn't even compare to macross. Honestly, i felt that older anime's envoked more emotion and just made u feel a certain way. Rarely does a new anime do that for me.

@DVitamin It's too bad that (minor) character development in DYRL is lost. It does it's best to highlight all of it, but it can't have everything. I didn't really like the Zentradi males vs. females, too. The idea itself wasn't bad when mixed with the themes of the series, but I just didn't think it was executed well in the movie. One thing that is positive about DYRL (but oddly sort of takes away from his character, imo): Hikaru is decisive in DYRL and not an idiot like in the TV series LOL.

@BeingBadAtMaths I think I agree with the Hikaru bit. Though now thinking back, his character was made this way to probably drag the series out? Also, on the Zentradi males vs. females - I'm not sure but it may have been an ongoing theme in Japanese culture. Probably some way to give the audience a way to connect. It's a hypothesis, but its probably the best conclusion I can come up with for that. Still, love this movie :) Thanks for the reply!

I sympathize for Minmay but I still prefer Misa to be with Hikaru. No matter which version of Macross it is...Robotech, SDF Macross, or Macross DYRL its all the same for me. Misa > Minmay...not the persons but rather their relationship with Hikaru.

Agreed. Even though Minmay was frivolous with Hikaru's love for her, she finally appreciates his love for her, even though it's too late.

I've always felt that this song was about her loss of Hikaru's love for her, and even though it's her own fault for losing it, this song makes me sad for her.

Exactly! Minmay was fickle and lost Hikaru. She didn't appreciate how a good man really is a more than a nice guy. SUch is life and even in reality!

But I do empathize more with Minmay a lot. Pity she just did not SEE Hikaru as the man of her dreams.

This is my favorite anime song of all time! It's so melodic & beautiful sounding. The chimes & Mari Iijima's voice make it sound like a romantic Christmas (no pun intended). It is simply anime personified in sound.
