  • Lol! the video telling you not to share military secrets and plans reveals military secrets and plans.

  • @RadiantStudios Accidentally ;) You know if they had released this video as training material what consequence could it have actually had? I can't figure that out. Could you imagine someone actually going to hitler with this and saying "LOOK WHAT OUR SPIES HAVE DISCOVERED MEIN FUHRER!!"

  • Just wondering, but how did you get this when it was never released?

  • Wow. That's, uh... That's a vagina. I guess they had to give these boys a little something.

  • The irony its a film about keeping secrets yet it is canned because it might have revealed the A bomb.

  • Too bad this was never released - one of the best ones. Understandable why though.

  • People here keep referring to "The Censors" and "The Hays Office" regarding this cartoon. The "Private SNAFU" cartoons, as davefox has mentioned, were never meant to be shown theatrically to general audiences... so the MPAA production code would not have applied to them. In an interview, Chuck Jones mentioned that the cartoons had to be approved by the Pentagon during the storyboard stage.

  • @muybridge54 Quite correct sir. Thank you about the "pentagon approval" bit of trivia /history here. All info about these is appreciated.

  • at 0:26 i would have made the sign say GO AWAY SNAFU

  • Obviously they didn't knwo what to do about nukes. Ever see the "Duck and Cover" flick? It really gives new (old) meaning to stick your head between your legs and kiss your butt goodbye.

  • It appears to be a sequel of "Spies".

  • 1:23 - Odd Couple, aren't they.

  • Wow, they nearly disobied their own advice with that nuke reference. What were they thinking? They could have easily used a rifle or machinegun to portray it.

  • The people who made the cartoon didn't know about nukes - they were too secret. But the video wasn't used because the censors DID know about nukes (at least enough to know what they'll do).

  • @qbzzt You know...know that l think about it, it seems very strange that the people "in the loop" about "The Manhattan Project" and the people who pull cartoons were one and the same. lt also seems that killing this cartoons release for the reasons given wasn't a greater security risk than leaving it alone.

  • @qbzzt i don't think they were broadcasted though, just training films for soldiers

  • @masterjon3 True. However, training films may get into enemy hands. Or the soldiers that watch them might be captured and interrogated.

The censors were probably excessively paranoid. But they were probably ordered "don't let anything out that shows a really big bomb".

  • Good thing the defense department took it's own advice from these SNAFU videos and didn't air this one.

  • All I can say is XD

  • davefoa is absolutely correct. This was made towards the end of the war with Japan and the 'bomb' refernce was entirely too close to the manhatten Project that was super secret and in the works. Hence this was never released.

    Thanks Dave.

  • He screws up even when he isn't in the army!

  • This is kind of remake of "Spies" but somehow this is more black in my opinion.

  • thanks for posting that SNAFU, its some real great stuff! I can see where the war department might have gotten their panties in a knot over that "superbomb" (and I caught the upskirt as well from the dame)

  • 1:40 Warner Bros. "Cameltoe" I don't think it was intentional though.

  • What are you talking about?

  • Freeze-frame it and look at the woman's crotch. It looks like she's "going commando"!

(By the way, pantyhose & stockings were on the ration list back then)

However, earlier frames did show her wearing panties.

Actually, I do think it was intentional. Termite Terrace sneaked a lot of stuff past the Hays Office, including a reference to the middle finger in the 1942 cartoon, "A Tale of Two Kitties".

  • Your right! At first I thought maybe this guy is mistaken for her stockings but then you said it was part of the ration list and I thought, "Good Lord!" Anyway that chick was hotter than the one Snafu was going out with.

  • Remember.. These were army training films, aimed at adults, never intended for the theatre or censors

  • psst. . .

Pantyhose didn't come around until '59 but yah, stockings were worth their weight in Plutonium.

  • An example of what NOT to say and do when you come home after being overseas during the war.

  • This would have been made in 45, not 44. The end card said that it was made in May but shelved because of the similarity to the A-bomb. In May of 44 the military was heading towards Europe & not coming home from there.

Thanks for the uploads, great stuff.

  • Well there's only one way to find out...and for that you'll need a monkey and a kazoo! :)

  • I wonder if that number on the train car "2947" meant anything, whether it was someone's house or apartment or office number or what.
