Android's allowing anyone to do whatever they want, which is being exploited by manufacturers to lock phones down. Rather than having to develop the phone's entire OS as they did before, they can now decide what they want the user to be able to do and lock down everything else. (Example: tethering)
it is open-source for OEMs but when user gets hand on the device , they have to root it and its same with iphone (jailbreak it) or symbian (hack)

SUPPORT ANDROID!!! Its ridiculous on the cost to publish or develop an Iphone app, You have to pay $100.00 for the developer kit and other api's. But for android the SDK is Free and to publish an apps in the Market cost $25 Dollars (one time fee).
if your a developer you have to pay a fee so therefore is put me off the idea for making my own app for free but android should do this for free and we could have more apps on the market, if people wont to make money out of it charge them

But now, he's worked with Android developers to get his modded firmware legal, with the option to get the apps from another source (HTCs images). tl;dr, facepalm
A little-known or little-ignored fact is that there was some friction within Google itself over the C&D. The C&D was from the legal department of Google while the Android team strongly disagreed with the C&D.
Regardless, Cyanogen is definitely doing the community a great service by keeping these custom firmwares in a good light with Google.
It's important that distinct platform specs become defined, else the worst fragmentation ever will result which is of great confusion to developers and the SW market.
@MegaMario2007 with the BSD license(and similar licenses) you can do whatever you want with the code with out giving anything back and your code will not be GPLed.

Android is cool - you should check out the GiiNii Movit Mini. I think it is the first wifi-enabled touchscreen communications device. Lots of press about it. I think it is pretty damn cool. NOT A PHONE - NOT CONTRACTS.... just be in a hot spot and use skype to call or install any android app.

If you go into settings and change from 3g to 2g when you are not on the internet the battery lasts a lot longer. Just in case you still have the phone. Hope that helps :)

and just like any other thing that Apple finds to work for them they take it and then sell it to you in a nice flashy package. We made a radiator out of grass and piped icing, then we made the radiator pick up the vibrations of passing trains, we then took a wheel barrow full of lime flavouring and poured it over a tanning bed which we lined with felt, we linked this to a solar powered robotic vacuum cleaner and coated the entire system in marzipan ready for decorating. The end result is a great phone operating system that is expandable and future proof. This is roughly what i got from this video. :)

I don't know much about Android, but there doesn't seam to be single interface. If you put android on a phone you will have one interface. If you put it in a refrigerator you will have another. The idea is that developers can change the interface to match the device they are creating.

I'm making a $100 laptop with Android, a 20 hour battery life, ARM processor, DSP for video codecs. Much better and much cheaper then Windows and Mac laptops.

They're all about trial and error; but more error. It's important for Google to not "quit its day job" which is the search engine.

First, this isn't google's project, they just used it in their phones.
Second, they havent completly perfected it for use with all phones.
Third, I'm not sure about the installing it on your computer thing..but why would you really want to? there are linux distrubutions actually made for computers....

I don't know much about Android, but there doesn't seam to be single interface. If you put android on a phone you will have one interface. If you put it in a refrigerator you will have another. The idea is that developers can change the interface to match the device they are creating.

Google always has these amazing product releases, but they need someone there to make sure engineers don't throw the attention off to themselves with shit like that.

Give the guy a break. He's an engineering geek trying to talk in a way that regular people can understand. Were he so inclined, I'm sure that he could talk so far above the heads of even most Linux geeks, who aren't full fledged developers, that it would be hard to identify what he said as English.

First of all, iphone demand had less to do with quality than with the psychology of fads. Secondly, demand doesn't lower prices, quite the opposite. When the supply surpasses the demand, especially when competing products such as the new Google phone enter the market, then prices go down.

I'm making a $100 laptop with Android, a 20 hour battery life, ARM processor, DSP for video codecs. Much better and much cheaper then Windows and Mac laptops.
