  • lol,and why is Android is considered the most "closed open source OS available" also my droid isn't compatible with Adobe Flash at all.what gives?is Flash on the way out like I've heard?

  • nice video, thanks for sub

  • Good Job Bro <3

  • TOP I like this video

  • Wow Android also focuses on Open Source projects.

  • @cdnml: When you're having to root a phone in order to gain full advantage of the OS, Android isn't at fault. The manufacturers and the service providers are the ones locking the phone down. Android's allowing anyone to do whatever they want, which is being exploited by manufacturers to lock phones down. Rather than having to develop the phone's entire OS as they did before, they can now decide what they want the user to be able to do and lock down everything else. (Example: tethering)

  • how can android be open source ?

it is open-source for OEMs but when user gets hand on the device , they have to root it and its same with iphone (jailbreak it) or symbian (hack)

what does open-source give to consumer ? am i missing a point ? (just forget about flash and other stuff) open-source / closed-source will be same in consumer-hands .

so how can android give advantage to consumer when consumer need to root the device just like jailbreaking the iphone or hacking windows7

  • Open source = worthless garbage. Open source software has never worked on any computer anywhere for anyone.

  • @mphello Haha right....

  • Android users, G(.)(.)gle is watching you..

  • And now carriers are loading Android onto Rom chips so whenever you reboot the phone it restores the OS to default. Very freaking OPEN SOURCE, huh?!

  • What language do you need to know to develop Android?

  • @wrdeboise Most of Android is written in Java. But you should be able to use other scripting/programming languages.

  • 0:32 reading from the screen

  • Makes sense... I mean it should

  • apple fanboys created an app that looks like android because they think their iPhone isn't good and android looks cool

  • if your a developer you have to pay a fee so therefore is put me off the idea for making my own app for free but android should do this for free and we could have more apps on the market, if people wont to make money out of it charge them

  • @liverpoolatnight

It only costs 20 bucks. They gotta pay for hosting somehow.

  • aaseriously guys there must be some nice men out there i am so lonely

  • What will I do with android?

first thing's first: get the latest version of android to work with the LG Eve. 1.5 is just way too old

  • is an inspiring video

  • WAT WILL YOU DO WITH ANDROID

  • ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT THE ANDROID FROM DOING YOU!

because in soviet Russia android does you! :D

  • @calzep1 lmao!!1

  • @andreibuze

    I was thinking the same

  • I really like android I think its a great idea, but my biggest problem with when you said, " we just want Android to get all over the place"... My understanding is, if i were a developer. It would be very costly to create a nice UI that is catchy. So I would choose Android because its free and i would be able to save on costs... But the long-run problem I see with this is your phone just becomes a "conformist" and you loose the "unique-ness" of your phone. so when buyers decide on buying a

  • @ahennin4: UI's other than the default Android one can be used like the HTC Sense UI and MotoBlur. I actually don't like that since it's kind of fracturing the platform and it would be better if the default interface was sleeker (which is happening somewhat with 2.1)

  • phone they will choose the phone with the best HARDWARE specs, (EX. Best camera, Best screen quality, Colors...etc...) This becomes a huge issue in business because you loose the "unique" aspect of your product and this decreases the "real value" .... unlike Apple iPhone, It is truly one of a kind... even though it is riskier and more costly to be the only phone running OS X, this makes iPhone Unique which creates greater "Real Value"

  • could have done with some music, audio appears awkward.

  • If my undestanding is correct you said in minute 2:04 "HP Components"? Could you please tell me if this is correct. I am asking you this because Im

making some research about Android. Thanks.

  • He said "The Apache H.T.T.P.Components"

    (I can't write "H.T.T.P." without dots!!)

  • still better than Apple :/

  • Google are behaving like facists, Microsoft is FAR more "OPEN" than Google, a terrible pity, but true. Have a look at the hundreds of versions of windows mobile their community develop, and microsoft does nothing to stop it... Unlike Google who serve Andriod rom hackers with Cease and Desist orders... shame on you Google.

  • They served one (uno, eins) modder, cyanogen, with a Cease and Desist, with legal basis. Android may be open source, but Google Experience apps (maps, youtube, browser, sync, market) are not. Cyanogen and everyone else were pushing it, but the last straw was when he included a leaked version of the new Market app. That prompted the C&D. But now, he's worked with Android developers to get his modded firmware legal, with the option to get the apps from another source (HTCs images). tl;dr, facepalm

  • A little-known or little-ignored fact is that there was some friction within Google itself over the C&D. The C&D was from the legal department of Google while the Android team strongly disagreed with the C&D.

Regardless, Cyanogen is definitely doing the community a great service by keeping these custom firmwares in a good light with Google.

  • forever Windows Mobile

  • How to become an Android developper...(training in french) : Search "android video2brain" in google !

  • It's important that distinct platform specs become defined, else the worst fragmentation ever will result which is of great confusion to developers and the SW market.

  • @MegaMario2007 with the BSD license(and similar licenses) you can do whatever you want with the code with out giving anything back and your code will not be GPLed.

  • Android is free and open source. Open Source means others can use others code and features, as long as they give something back.

It may be a Linux variant, BUT Android is the next mobile era. It's fast, stable, and free to modify!

Make your own ROMs for your Android device if you want a 1337 version of the OS. Simple.

  • This is awesome

  • blah blah blah..

Just tell me whether I'll be able to buy a Linux-based cell phone and then program it!

I want root access to my cell phone.

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds mostly like the guys who made android used other peoples content, all they made it sound like they made was some sound and image liberys :P

  • libraries.

  • thanks, i have a few typos :) English isn't my native language

  • "Android is the first free, open source, and fully customizable mobile platform. "

is not the firist! OpenMoko was the firist "¬¬.

but looks it is the best.

PLEASE GOOGLE Translate it to portuguese, use the Sub Source of YouTube!

  • I think I'll pass.

  • The skinny guy sounds like a computer reader. how computers read text :P

  • Downloads Video Player from the Market

  • This doesn't look like an Apple ad! Apple ads are usually a bald guy in a black shirt on a black background... these guys look like young Californian developers.

    Google is awesome.

If you hate phones but love Android, get psyched for the GiiNii Movit Mini! It's an internet media tablet for 150 dollars that has WiFi... it's like a mini computer.

  • Android is going to take over the world and will be the end-all of the I-phone! HAhahahahah

  • AGREED, MWUAHAHAHAHA :D

  • @Jmagale You can even install Android on the iphone! :D

  • abzocke, shit! safe your money. don´t feed the rich!

  • Android's a good idea, but I still really hate cell phones.

  • Android is cool - you should check out the GiiNii Movit Mini. I think it is the first wifi-enabled touchscreen communications device. Lots of press about it. I think it is pretty damn cool. NOT A PHONE - NOT CONTRACTS.... just be in a hot spot and use skype to call or install any android app.

  • I want to see my Nokia phone booting Android!!!

  • thats rude to say aloud but i was thinking it..

  • i agree y. u all h8in on him?

  • Well i got a G1 and Android is just rubish it drains the battery in just a few minutes of use, so is no where near apples iPhone O.S.

way too complicated and it keeps apps runing on the backround so its a no no, sorry :(

  • If you go into settings and change from 3g to 2g when you are not on the internet the battery lasts a lot longer. Just in case you still have the phone. Hope that helps :)

  • I still have the phone the second one infact but if i was to do that everytime i use thats a bore why can't you guys set it so if the device is not in use it goes of it self ???

  • actually the G1 battery lasts a full hour longer than the iPhone, with 3G, GPS and wifi enabled.

  • I wish the guys developing Android lots of luck - tough market! Surprised the video wasn't slightly better produced, it seemed as if the guys didn't rehearse what they were going to say, or think about what to wear.....this just became distracting from an otherwise interesting vid.

  • Sony Ericsson is going to use this right?

  • A large amount of companies have been reported on saying they plan to use the Android O.S. in the near future.

  • make it flash enabled please.

  • Adobe has released a video demonstrating there flash on the web browser. it should be released very soon.

  • I still want free phone service. I'm ok with ads.

  • Look at Dan's earring xD

  • mac is gay

  • uh, okay.

  • So this is where the Mac bashers are at !. Pathetic...

  • android's going to take the world by storm when there's more devices supporting it.

  • No, it is open source, so Android and its DERIVATIVES will take over the world by storm.

Oh and by the way people, OS X is based on Darwin, which is open source, and Webkit is mainly developed by Apple, which is ALSO open source.

  • nope, get your facts straight.

WebKit is developed by open source developers,

and just like any other thing that Apple finds to work for them they take it and then sell it to you in a nice flashy package. Examples: WebKit --> Safari, BSD-->OSX , ZeroConf -->Bonjour, the list goes on. Apple open sources and contributes certain stuff, but only because GPL rules are if you get something from open source, you have to give back the code to the codebase. Otheriwise Apple doesnt share shit with others.

  • apple is a douche bag

  • i guess Microsoft try's to just make OS for pc's. Anyway, android will kill iphone. iphone might look better but i like g1 better.

  • I'm an Apple fanboy. I love Apple. I love Steve Jobs. I love Macs. I love OS X. I really really love iPhone. It's the best phone ever, in my opinion. But my next phone is probably going to be an Android phone. In about 2 years.

  • APPLE sucks, it's over priced and over rated.

  • aint that the truth. Its like overpriced designer bags... the bag is a bag, same use when compared to low priced bags, you simply buy the name and material it was made with... it's still a bag.

  • Mac is just a brand. It is overpriced and overrated and the advertisements are insultingly arrogant. I don't understand just HOW people would like them after they bash PCs and act like douchebags and jerks. That being said, I'm all for Open-source software and programming. Most of the stuff I use on my PC are open-source.

  • it is overpriced!!I used my G1 to scan the price at the apple store..only to find no other deals!!!!!!....TRY THAT IPHONE..HA HA

  • We made a radiator out of grass and piped icing, then we made the radiator pick up the vibrations of passing trains, we then took a wheel barrow full of lime flavouring and poured it over a tanning bed which we lined with felt, we linked this to a solar powered robotic vacuum cleaner and coated the entire system in marzipan ready for decorating. The end result is a great phone operating system that is expandable and future proof. This is roughly what i got from this video. :)

  • rofl m8 ;p

  • FreeBSD rox!

  • stupid, but cool... :D

  • lol, the guy with the ear ring looks so stupid...

  • You're such a winner. I wish I was you. I've always wanted to talk shit about people I dont even know. OMG! You're not gonna believe this, but I've always wanted a screen name like yours, but mine would be "isuckballs4ever". You are so my idol. You sound very smart too. :)

  • Linux

  • Lea and perrins gets my vote, random cheese convo!

  • Cheese on toast, with reggae sauce on tastes great. Or marmite on top of the cheese!

  • i am def having cheese on toast nwo ... oh yea almost forgot try putting tomato sauce underneitch the cheese for more flavour

  • oh yea. put some lea and perrins on it. it makes the cheese taste a whole lot better i promise.

  • and in toasted cheese sandwhiches

  • thats so cool and cool

  • i approve of android. vote for android.

but, with all the processing power they posess, why a white background for videos? where's the mandelbrot's and other tech eye candy?! sesame street and apple did the white background, do a google background!!! electric sheep would be cool.

  • You say you have a bunch of video codecs. I would like to know if the codecs from ON2 Technologies are being used here. Thanks.

  • Rock on, Bort. This is some sweet stuff.

  • Oh yes, Bort is the man...

    RepreSENT!

  • So will this be like Linux.. great platform, with 10000000+ crappy/unusable applications.

  • This is pretty cool! GO LINUX!

  • Will Googsey beat Mikey with this?

  • Lawl Dan Bornstein kinda sounds like Van Driessen from Beavis and Butt-head

  • google now owns the world

  • Yeah, cause all their products are such a great success. Wait, what happened to Chrome, Google Talk, Google Videos, Orkut, Google Sheets, Google Answers, Google Catalogs, Google Local... and the list goes on.

They're all about trial and error; but more error. It's important for Google to not "quit its day job" which is the search engine.

  • Just like MicroSoft ... windows mobile its just stupid, microsoft search its a joke, hotmail its another joke... So.. at least Google its open... if you dont like it, improve it!!!!

  • open source is the best !!!

  • Man, all that stuff sound great. but the fat guy with the gay ass earring looks retarded. I'm gonna busta cap with andriod.

  • The project shuts out all Windows user! That is 90% mistake - missing out on 90% of the potential developers!?

  • How does it shut out Windows users? People on Windows machines can develop Android apps.

  • this is kinda like when microsoft came out they gonna be tha next bill gates

  • oh. i get it now...

  • Cool Earing

  • they look quitely unesperienced in talkin' people. . .it looks like they're shy. . .

  • Ok how do I install android on my Motorola V220?

    :)

Well if it is an OS I should be able to install it on my laptop..right?

Why can't I install this OS over the air on my phone(well will take time...but!)

Make this easily accessible to all cell phones out there, Google..

  • you smell like cheese

  • I like cheese.

  • im eating cheese on toast :D

  • IM Eating Cheezits mixed with gold fish >.>

  • First, this isn't google's project, they just used it in their phones.

Second, they havent completly perfected it for use with all phones.

Third, I'm not sure about the installing it on your computer thing..but why would you really want to? there are linux distrubutions actually made for computers....

  • its made by google

  • It is Google's project.

  • They should have talked more about the interface of android. I'm not a coder or a programmer or anything, and I can't tell what the fuck these guys are talking about. After seeing this video, I'm no more likely to buy a product with Android than one without it. Shitty marketting guys.

  • I don't know much about Android, but there doesn't seam to be single interface. If you put android on a phone you will have one interface. If you put it in a refrigerator you will have another. The idea is that developers can change the interface to match the device they are creating.

  • I want one...too bad verizon will prob be the last to adopt it. hahaha btw is that a ....fishing lure hanging off that guy's ear?? lol

  • Everyone knows cash gifting is a scam !

  • verizon is NEVER going to adopt this

they need their own software to bloat up with restrictions

you cant even use third party chargers or batteries with verizon phones let alone download files from your computer

  • they mention speech recognition, is it in or not?

  • i know they were writing an open source speech recognition library, so i guess yes. I don't know if it's finished though...

  • worst video I have ever seen

  • I just got an open source boner!

  • Ya if Verizon didn't suck that would be cool.

  • they seem like nice, real, people :)

  • But can it take video? or does that depend on the device? And how do get it on a device you want?

  • Only if da G1 came out for Verizon..

  • Response to Bryan14xs:

Couldn't this phone be "unlocked" and used with any carrier?

  • Actually, you can buy the phone "unlocked", at least according to what was said at some press conference.

  • Verizon is getting the blackberry storm!

  • in representation of all those that weren't paying attention in high school, and of course dint make it in college .i have just one question 4 u guy....WHAT?!

  • Why are you hating on people who own the iPhone? It's a good phone. Not perfect, but it also does a lot that many other phones don't.

  • Very good.

  • If only the G1 would come out for AT&T... :/

    murr.

  • Give the guy a break. He's an engineering geek trying to talk in a way that regular people can understand. Were he so inclined, I'm sure that he could talk so far above the heads of even most Linux geeks, who aren't full fledged developers, that it would be hard to identify what he said as English.

  • True. I bet this is one of those guys that calls us app developers "Userland developers"

  • I can touch the kernel ?

    Not.

  • god android is way far better than the close IPhone architecture.. too bad the IPhone became a "trend".

  • Remember when Apple fan-bois where queueing up to plop down $600 for an iPhone... ROFLMAO.

  • its not the price that matter.. is the quality and the scalability, and when the demand is higher (because of the quality) the prices are going low anyway.

  • First of all, iphone demand had less to do with quality than with the psychology of fads. Secondly, demand doesn't lower prices, quite the opposite. When the supply surpasses the demand, especially when competing products such as the new Google phone enter the market, then prices go down.

  • This project revolutionize the opensource mobile technology.

  • Que mierda se pone el gordo en su oreja

    ?

  • es para decirle a la gente que es medio marico, eso creo.

  • I'm making a $100 laptop with Android, a 20 hour battery life, ARM processor, DSP for video codecs. Much better and much cheaper then Windows and Mac laptops.

  • Comment removed

  • The point with Android is that it's the best Linux OS for embedded devices, and it already has the best embedded Linux applications.

  • Hello you! Where are money for children? When I do an app for iPhone i could get money if it is good. Where are my money for food, where I want to do app for your shit? Sorry for vocabulary...

  • lol

  • OH SNAP, IT'S DAVE BORT
