You're right, checkercorner - the Aerobus was fielded by CMC as an 'airport limo' and served well the business of moving large numbers around town. They were manufactured in relatively few numbers and only for a few years so they're exceedingly rare now. I love the English and there IS a sense of 'fun' in this creation, but it's just so uncharacteristically overdone, one might well imagine ten 15yr olds with financial backing and cartoon bordello dreams were unleashed.
No such monstrosity ever rode the streets of NYC - this is just someone with money's idea of upmarketing a Manhattan icon and turning it into something really lame looking. Sorry to offend, I just think the real thing (an
A-11 or A-12) is the only way to go and a pimped-out Aerobus ain't the real deal.
These checker aerobuses were made right off the factory and used for airports, schools, and other large forms of transportation from the 70's through the very early 80's. I understand your opinion on the idea of turning the car into a replica of the new york taxi...since not many of these were made in the first place and actually got to drive on ny streets.
I like the Aerobus its a fun oddity. I think our 67 A-12 is better though. Haha, I seem to remember the Kalamazoo Gazette having one with a giant newspaper on top, maybe i've ost my mind...
thanks for postiing, she looks like a finely restored beauty. I wish I saw more of these on the road in the states. Hope to see more videos soon, there really aren't that many clips of checkers on youtube.
that reminds me, sesame street starts in 20 minutes
