People aren't educated about the roots of polygamy, especially in Africa. It was done to make sure all widows and fatherless children (who had lost the man in war) were taken care of. It was done so the king would be connected to all clans through his wives, a diplomatic gesture, only if the king was a good leader who listened to his people. This king has millions to waste and his country is so poor and with very little freedoms. The opulence is insane, NOT tradition.

@kbkcogic Not sure which country you visited, but I'm from Swaziland and I know different. Furthermore, you don't just measure poverty by how many children are in the streets. Go to the rural areas, find how many people have access to medication (especially HIV/Aids treatment), how clean is the water, how many people are employed. What you saw was generational comfort. Very rarely in small African nations do people let their kids run from home. Those homes have been owned forever.

The part of the brain that is involved in decision making, the frontal lobe, does not fully develop until the age of 25. A child should not be married, especially if it's breaking the law. An 8 year old child is not physically, mentally or emotionally ready for marriage, especially one they have no say in. Why else is it frowned upon for women to have multiple partners but acceptable for men? Do you know why we have the highest AIDS rates in the world? If one member of a polygamous relationship gets infected, the rest of them get the disease too, leaving myriads poor of children behind as orphans.
How did that one member get AIDS? It doesn't come from the air. It doesn't sound like that person is being faithful, committed to the family unit as a whole. If someone's going to cheat, they should use a condom. As for promoting the male ego, that may be your experience but Iknow many who are not Swazi who have had great experiences in polygamy. I'm sorry yours was negative. Polygamy, when participated in by righteous individuals, actually gives the women leverage, rather than the men.
When there is more than one woman, if the women are more sisterly to one another rather than rivals, when one of them wants something they can go together to the man in order to get that thing. He will have to listen because they are all asking for it. If he says no then he faces the women being angry with him and being difficult in other areas (read: no sex; you know how women can be!). Again, we are talking about individuals who are attempting to follow God's Law to the best of their ability.
You may know about your experiences in polygamy but the dynamics depend on the set of people that are involved, their personalities and all of that. It's not only about sex every woman and every man involved are human beings with complex feelings and emotions and sensitivities and each one will need to be taken care of in all of these arenas. When you think on it one ponders why a man would want so many wives with all the responsiblity involved.

Another thing -- most of the problems you find in polygyny you find in monogamy. At least in a polygynous situation the wives have each other at times of strife with their husband...in a monogamous relationship a woman can often find herself alone with no one to truly understand what she is going through. Also -- look it up -- the Bible NEVER speaks against polygyny. Anywhere.
In polygamy there is probably a sense of competition, jealousy etc. Not very nice.. and another major negative is that people like this end up having many children and those children inevitably get into big time conflicts with each other over inheritance, power etc. I think the modern one spouse family with a couple kids is a better arrangement
One should not speak of things which one does not know of. I know many polygynists who do not have a big issue with jealousy, and who's children do not fight at all. Why should they fight? While you may be led by your society to believe that monogamy is best, others could say otherwise. Polygamy should be at least an option in all countries. There's safety in numbers, as they say. More wives, more women, equals girl power. Women that share a husband have more time to devote to other interests, rather than be everything to the man. A man can have children up into his 70s; a woman stops being able to much sooner. A woman is delicate with child for 9 months and 2 months afterwards, while a man is never in such a position. When there is one man we all know who the father is, when there are multiple husbands we don't know who's daddy is whom... MANY reasons!
We aren't living in the cavemen era, there is DNA testing, and it's much more physically bearable on the woman to not have 12 children or so because in most polygamist societies(i.e. usually not advanced societies) birth control is not allowed nor is family planning.

Swaziland is a corrupt mini state ruled by a corrupt Royal Family. Only last year a one of the Royal was accused of the rape of a 14 year old girl. It also has the highest HIV infection rate in the world, with two percent of the population dying of AIDS each year. I couldn't make this up. It's really too much to be believed, though, isn't it? Go to the rural areas, find how many people have access to medication (especially HIV/Aids treatment), how clean is the water, how many people are employed. What you saw was generational comfort. Very rarely in small African nations do people let their kids run from home. Those homes have been owned forever.

Why else is it frowned upon for women to have multiple partners but acceptable for men? Do you know why we have the highest AIDS rates in the world? If one member of a polygamous relationship gets infected, the rest of them get the disease too, leaving myriads poor of children behind as orphans.

When there is more than one woman, if the women are more sisterly to one another rather than rivals, when one of them wants something they can go together to the man in order to get that thing. He will have to listen because they are all asking for it. If he says no then he faces the women being angry with him and being difficult in other areas (read: no sex; you know how women can be!). Again, we are talking about individuals who are attempting to follow God's Law to the best of their ability.

Another thing -- most of the problems you find in polygyny you find in monogamy. At least in a polygynous situation the wives have each other at times of strife with their husband...in a monogamous relationship a woman can often find herself alone with no one to truly understand what she is going through. Also -- look it up -- the Bible NEVER speaks against polygyny. Anywhere.

One should not speak of things which one does not know of. I know many polygynists who do not have a big issue with jealousy, and who's children do not fight at all. Why should they fight? While you may be led by your society to believe that monogamy is best, others could say otherwise. Polygamy should be at least an option in all countries. Well there are MANY reasons why women typically don't have more than one husband but while it's rare that such a thing occurs, it is not unheard of. A man can have children up into his 70s; a woman stops being able to much sooner. A woman is delicate with child for 9 months and 2 months afterwards, while a man is never in such a position. When there is one man we all know who the father is, when there are multiple husbands we don't know who's daddy is whom... MANY reasons!

You guys have no Idea how much the king cares about the poor. The people that should be blamed are his advisors and other people tasked to get the JOB DONE but u what they do? Most of them work slow,make bad deals etc. As a result u find that nothing gets done or takes too long to get done. Next thing u know, the blame shifts to the king and worse, exaggerated.

Africans sold their own people to the white man. Therefore, Africans held themselves back from developing properly. They sent their lawers, engineers, preachers, teachers, etc. to America to build a great nation. If they kept their human resources perhaps Africa would be great today. Unfortunately, they bartered their human capital in exchange for liquor and beads. Africa suffers today because of its own mistakes. Perhaps they will learn from the past and unite.
