There are translation in German. KIKA channel for children they show this 06.03 and 13.03.09 (Ilja, Dobrynia).

Titles:Aljoscha - Der ruhmreiche Recke, Ilja - Der furchtlose Recke und Dobrynia - Der kühne Recke. Some people speak German, maybe alternative, translation is well.

Don't be so silly. Poetic, funny, and nice to look at. Even non-Russians can grasp what's going on. And Russians can enjoy the implied satire (ie the Knyaz, baba Yjaga... even the merchant). It makes ancient legends approachable to children.

I have. They weren't as light hearted. I enjoyed both versions. I just feel this is easier to take if you know little or nothing about Russian history/legends.

I'd take the old versions any time,I love their dark beauty, and they come way closer to the original stories.Children should be able to get the plot even without bright colors and a funky design.
