I had one of these back in about 1970, paid $25 for it, sold it a few years later for $40, no clue what it's worth now. It was made by Alpine. During WW2, foot troops usually carried the larger M1 Garand, the squad leaders often got the M1Carbines, asin the old "Combat" with the late Vic Morrow.
@brady0309 there is no knock off m1 carbine. if its a carbine its a carbine. during ww2 there was well over 30 manufacturers of the m1 carbine. so what is a knock off when there is no 1st m1 carbine? and for your information mine is a winchester. the best of the best m1 carbines.
@hound12314 very very true. many guns are licensed to be made at many different eras by tons of different manufacturer's. most ''foreign'' guns in the us, are made by american companies, just licensed to be made by them, same with american guns in other countries.
@daltonr17 the caliber is .308 inches, the cartridge is "30 Carbine". the 308Winchester and .30cal-of-year-1906(30-06) are different cartridges try wikipedia for more detailed info if you like :) Cheers bud, they all shoot a projectile of the same diameter, called "Caliber," and the cases and weights of the projectiles differ in the cartridges. fun stuff huh :)
the SAS rumour that if you have a very thick layer of clothing, it will stop the .30 ball at certain ranges. But if your in the jungle, the enemy will not be wearing a leather jacket
Not made specifically for paratroopers.Were made to replace pistols generally carried by officers,remfs,machine gunners, mortormen anyone whose primary job was not pulling the trigger on the Garand.Paratroopers deployed with Garand's, Thompsons, and carbines. So did cannon cockers and tankers. So did, clerks, jerks and spoons. In the Infantry, officers and nco's were the main recipients but not always. 30 carbine has no where near the power of 30-06.Not even close.
Or maybe the carbine uses a real magazine. I just started learning about firearms and so many details.
But the worst is when people call pistol magazines clips. Like in a Glock. Too many relying on rap lyrics over real engineering facts! Bugs me too. But I am still learning too. And encourage anybody to learn proper firearm terms and history.
@machineguntongue what about lever actions like a winchester 94? They have a permanently fixed tubular magazine. How about a bolt action like a Remington 700? They have an internal box magazine. The word magazine has nothing to do with whether or not its detachable it just means where the rounds are stored. A clip usually refers to that device which holds the bullets prior to loading ie a stripper clip or in the case of an M1 Garand while they are in the magazine ie en bloc clip.

You could make the case that because a pistol magazine is completely inserted in the magazine well, like an en bloc clip and it holds the rounds like a stripper clip it could be called a clip. I know many professional soldiers and police officers who use the term interchangeably with regards to pistol mags.
I think the M1 does use a 8 round clip. Cartridge clip. No detachable magazine.
But most people mistake stripper clips, like used in SKS's and Moisin Nagant's, for magazines and vice versa for modern rifles, like an AR15's and AK47/74's. Those do use magazines.
you retards!! stop taking movies as realistic cronicles!!! this was designed as a defence weapon to equip officers alltillery men etc. and it was not desingent to kill but to provide much more accurate fire to them
the m1 carbine was not built for all out firefights. infact during its use in the u.s. armed forces you had to be an artillary man, officer or non combatant to hold one. i dont care what saveing privat ryan says. it was not built for offense but more for a light wheight defensive weapon. and what people dont understand is that it might not move fast but the projectile really is bigger than a grand
@hound12314 You silly willy, Paratroopers used the m1 carbine all the time because of it's light weight, and the round gave it excellent punching power, it does a ridiculous amount of tissue damage.
@15Sebastiannn not rarely really. Talked to a korean war vet who actually used both that and the Garand. Granted that was Korea, but I can venture to guess that there was little variance in the personnel who were issued the weapon.
@15Sebastiannn Doesn't matter. They were originally issued to cabbies and artillarymen but they soon became very popular with standard infantrymen. Sorry that my anecdote wasn't convincing for you.
@31173x Yes your correct mainly the Pathfinders used them but many paratroopers had mixed equipment drops do to inexperience in mass drops so you are completely correct.
@hound12314 The projectile as you mention for the ammo fired out of an M1 carbine is in fact lighter than a standard .30-06 round in terms of bullet grain weight. While they are very similiar in caliber in 7.62, the .30 carbine bullet averaged a little over 100 grains, while the .30-06 was about a 150gr spitzer bullet.

@hound12314 Yeah you're right, the Carbine was devised because the Garand was too big and awkward to carry for artillery crewmen with all their other equipment.
@hound12314 Ahem, while the general gist of your comment is correct, factually you are not right. The m1 carbine is available with a folding stock, which is the paratrooper version. I dare you to tell me paratroopers are not an offensive force...
@hound12314 this is bigger then a 306.? no 30.<306. you need to learn your decimals bro, the m1 garand has a way bigger projectile in all aspects. the the m1a1 carbine shooting a 30. cal carbine and the m1 garand shooting a 306.

@TheJuvelir do you know how many times ''holding the clip" has been talked about on this vid? and guess what everytime the only people who say you cant to it are cod freaks and little kids. ore people who have shot daddys gun. shut the fuck up. and comment on a vid you can really put some knowlage you have into. try autism in the search bar. you know nothing but what tv and cod can tell you. but you ask any firearms teacher or ex. mil and they will tell you the same thing.
@TheJuvelir In some cases, holding the clip actually provides better stability and thus forth greater accuracy. From the WWII Era particularly, the MP40.
@TheJuvelir that's actually a magazine. clips feed magazine. sometimes there are internal mags where you can just take a stripper clip and load the weapon. some time there are en-bloc clips where you insert the whole thing into the weapon. remember, clip and magazine, two completely different things
@fordwillkillyou Garands do have a magazine, however, it is fixed, internal, and clip fed. As far as I know, all repeating firearms except for revolvers have magazines.
@SuperbAirsoft Well, wasn't the M1 carbine a rather underpowered weapon. I once heard the story that during the Battle of the Bulge American GI's that were using it were unable to penetrate the heavy winter clothing of the Germans and therefore swapped it for a Garand. Muzzle velocity of the M1 Carbine is about half of that of a Garand or K98. That, combined with the smaller lighter round would make this myth plausible I reckon. Don't know if it is true though, might be just a silly myth.
@Lucasisgek82 i have also heard that story, but i have studied german winter clothing, and non winter clothing alike, and the m1 carbines 110 gr (7.1 g) bullet had well enough power to get through german ww2 clothing. the m1 us helmet couldnt even take the m1 carbine round from around 60-70 meters, wich is made of steel i might add. u might say that isnt correct but it would only go through the shell. if an m1 carbine can penetrate thick steel. i assure you it can penetrate german clothing.
@anthony2002able m1 carbine fires a .30 carbine round not .45 and holds 15 while garand holds 8 the m1 carbine is also several times lighter but it depends on what you need it for
All of this fighting started because the kid in the video was just living and showing this nice gun stop fighting if you ask me you all put you countries to shame
I hate my country in the fact that you're basically not allowed to own any other gun than a hunting rifle, and then you have to have a gun license, a hunting license, and a license for the special kind of rifle you have.
i gotta side with the kid here. france sucks...the men fight like girls and the women look manly and are hairy... plus they like to bang africans. fuck france. should have let zee germans butt rape you pussies.
there's nothing wrong an MG-42 and I like shooting a Mosin-Nagant and K98, but if you honestly think that german and russian weapons are better than what the US was fielding, you're a fucking idiot.
I think im the only one that noticed that this gun is shooting an.17 HMR or something like that and it is way to small this thing is a bb gun compared to the .30 cal they really used
@hound12314 The mg42 was one weapon buddy. A quad 50 is 4 .50 and is a anti aircraft weapon not a weapon designed against infantry. Most of the German weapons were a hell of a lot better. The Stg 44 beats anything the allies had at the time. The Mg42 is still the fastest firing single barreled machine gun of all time. The only things the Americans had that were worth anything was the Garand, the 50 cal and the thompson. Everything else was crap
@MrLickmesack In some ways I think. It set the foundation for the squad support weapons of today, but a 20 round magazine is way too little for the job it was designed for
the mg42 shot 1200 rounds per minute the .30 cal 600-800 rpm, not even close to the mg42. the 42 was also lighter than the .30 cal and a lot easier to maintain and change the barrel. the .50 quad was only used as an anti aircraft gun never in a combat zone. It was very unreliable and jammed frequently. I know from shooting a .50 myself. German weapons were well made and designed. also very reliable. many weapons today are based off german weapons. (STG-44) = first assault rifle
they were on top of the tank....once in combat everyone was inside of the tank....would you want to be exposed in the open on top? risking being picked off by snipers? The machine gun used inside tanks was .30 cals. the .50 was on top.
@Kaptk112 yes the 50 was on top but most of your body is in the tank and the enemy is more likely to focus on destroying the tank itself than trying to kill the machinegunner.
@hound12314 there is no discussion possible, the germans were more innovative, the invented the mp44, nicknamed the sturmgewher wich is the first assault rifle
@hound12314 *cough* you're comparing the alternating fire of four guns at the same time, that just doesn't work. An anti-air weapon should by no means be compared with an automatic squad weapon. The .50 cal fires 450-600 rounds per minute whilst the MG42 can fire 900-1,500 rounds per minute. The MG42 is 25lbs and the .50 is 44lbs, the quad .50 even more so. The .50cal was invented in 1919, the MG42, 1942. If you're gonna talk about guns, make sure you know stuff about them first. :)
@hound12314 ehem... may i remind you of the MOTHER FUCKIN STG 44!!!! all modern russian assault rifles, including the Ak-47, are base off that design. also, too nazi? the Kar 98k is from 1898, not nazi, and germans are not all nazis asshole! racist...........

@TheJuvelir do you know how many times ''holding the clip" has been talked about on this vid? and guess what everytime the only people who say you cant to it are cod freaks and little kids. ore people who have shot daddys gun. shut the fuck up. and comment on a vid you can really put some knowlage you have into. try autism in the search bar. you know nothing but what tv and cod can tell you. but you ask any firearms teacher or ex. mil and they will tell you the same thing.
hound12314 5 months ago 20
@hound12314 Actually if you hold the for of a fire arm by the clip you have an increased risk of jamming.
31173x 5 months ago
@TheJuvelir Magazine not clip. n00b.
ModernMinuteMan 5 months ago
@TheJuvelir In some cases, holding the clip actually provides better stability and thus forth greater accuracy. From the WWII Era particularly, the MP40.
darthopal 5 months ago
@darthopal It may provide stability but will give a higher risk for jamming.

theaustralianshooter 5 months ago
@TheJuvelir that's actually a magazine. clips feed magazine. sometimes there are internal mags where you can just take a stripper clip and load the weapon. some time there are en-bloc clips where you insert the whole thing into the weapon. remember, clip and magazine, two completely different things

powerciccio 6 months ago
@powerciccio Its a M1 carbine. Grands are much bigger, only hold 8 rounds, and do not have a magazine.
fordwillkillyou 6 months ago
@fordwillkillyou Garands do have a magazine, however, it is fixed, internal, and clip fed. As far as I know, all repeating firearms except for revolvers have magazines.

@DiscoDude82 True, I did mean external magazines. :D

m1 carbine- best. rifle. EVER!
SuperbAirsoft 6 months ago
@SuperbAirsoft Well, wasn't the M1 carbine a rather underpowered weapon. I once heard the story that during the Battle of the Bulge American GI's that were using it were unable to penetrate the heavy winter clothing of the Germans and therefore swapped it for a Garand. Muzzle velocity of the M1 Carbine is about half of that of a Garand or K98. That, combined with the smaller lighter round would make this myth plausible I reckon. Don't know if it is true though, might be just a silly myth.
Lucasisgek82 6 months ago
@Lucasisgek82 i have also heard that story, but i have studied german winter clothing, and non winter clothing alike, and the m1 carbines 110 gr (7.1 g) bullet had well enough power to get through german ww2 clothing. the m1 us helmet couldnt even take the m1 carbine round from around 60-70 meters, wich is made of steel i might add. u might say that isnt correct but it would only go through the shell. if an m1 carbine can penetrate thick steel. i assure you it can penetrate german clothing.
SuperbAirsoft 6 months ago
@SuperbAirsoft Ok thx, myth busted!

fordwillkillyou 6 months ago
ill take an m1 grand over an m1 carbine most days .30-6 compared to a .45 the .30-6 would win
anthony2002able 6 months ago
@anthony2002able m1 carbine fires a .30 carbine round not .45 and holds 15 while garand holds 8 the m1 carbine is also several times lighter but it depends on what you need it for

CRDRStuntas 7 months ago
I hate my country in the fact that you're basically not allowed to own any other gun than a hunting rifle, and then you have to have a gun license, a hunting license, and a license for the special kind of rifle you have.
Maybe I should pay the US a visit.
Tobbs96 7 months ago
sooo... this is the same thing as a garand right? You know.. cause "M1 garand".. idk just guessing. Is the M1 carbine same as M1 garand? thanks :)
SlimySnail44 8 months ago

there's nothing wrong an MG-42 and I like shooting a Mosin-Nagant and K98, but if you honestly think that german and russian weapons are better than what the US was fielding, you're a fucking idiot.

hound12314 9 months ago
@hound1 nope. mg42
billyboyg001 9 months ago
@hound12314 oh, and g11
billyboyg001 9 months ago
@hound12314 The mg42 was one weapon buddy. A quad 50 is 4 .50 and is a anti aircraft weapon not a weapon designed against infantry. Most of the German weapons were a hell of a lot better. The Stg 44 beats anything the allies had at the time. The Mg42 is still the fastest firing single barreled machine gun of all time. The only things the Americans had that were worth anything was the Garand, the 50 cal and the thompson. Everything else was crap
slayersdiciple 9 months ago
@slayersdiciple the bar was crap too ???
MrLickmesack 9 months ago
@MrLickmesack In some ways I think. It set the foundation for the squad support weapons of today, but a 20 round magazine is way too little for the job it was designed for
slayersdiciple 9 months ago
@hound12314
the mg42 shot 1200 rounds per minute the .30 cal 600-800 rpm, not even close to the mg42. the 42 was also lighter than the .30 cal and a lot easier to maintain and change the barrel. the .50 quad was only used as an anti aircraft gun never in a combat zone. It was very unreliable and jammed frequently. I know from shooting a .50 myself. German weapons were well made and designed. also very reliable. many weapons today are based off german weapons. (STG-44) = first assault rifle
Kaptk112 9 months ago
@Kaptk112 yea they put .50's on tanks so they were in a combat zone.
TheWill450 8 months ago
@TheWill450
they were on top of the tank....once in combat everyone was inside of the tank....would you want to be exposed in the open on top? risking being picked off by snipers? The machine gun used inside tanks was .30 cals. the .50 was on top.
Kaptk112 8 months ago
@Kaptk112 yes the 50 was on top but most of your body is in the tank and the enemy is more likely to focus on destroying the tank itself than trying to kill the machinegunner.
TheWill450 8 months ago
@TheWill450 not a sniper. Killing the tank commanders was a common tactic.
Soaker1231 8 months ago
@Soaker1231 tea. i know a little about tanks because my great uncle drove on in WWll through france and all the way to germany.

@hound12314 you are comparing a squad machinegun to an heavy antiair defense?

hound12314 9 months ago
@hound12314 hound12314 won by default in the international internet argument of 2011 :]
LtActionCam 9 months ago
@hound12314 there is no discussion possible, the germans were more innovative, the invented the mp44, nicknamed the sturmgewher wich is the first assault rifle
MrStrontipis 9 months ago
@hound12314 *cough* you're comparing the alternating fire of four guns at the same time, that just doesn't work. An anti-air weapon should by no means be compared with an automatic squad weapon. The .50 cal fires 450-600 rounds per minute whilst the MG42 can fire 900-1,500 rounds per minute. The MG42 is 25lbs and the .50 is 44lbs, the quad .50 even more so. The .50cal was invented in 1919, the MG42, 1942. If you're gonna talk about guns, make sure you know stuff about them first. :)
CGibby94 9 months ago
@hound12314 ehem... may i remind you of the MOTHER FUCKIN STG 44!!!! all modern russian assault rifles, including the Ak-47, are base off that design. also, too nazi? the Kar 98k is from 1898, not nazi, and germans are not all nazis asshole! racist...........
